Without Debussy and his work's great performer like Kirten, the classical music world would have been very lonely and insipid , and the enjoyment and pleasures of the classical music would have been less Her teaching play is full of Debussy's pensive feeling . From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵 .
Course, I cheat a bit: I play this piece in G - transposed up a half step. Where the comment was made on the second phrase after the beginning of the piece where the phrase begins in the dominant and ends up a sixth to Eb: notes that are repeated, I slightly detach while the rest of the notes are moving. I do this to keep as much legato as possible . I’m working on this piece arranged for organ. Thus letting the Melody have its own voice. Love the emotion really put in this for the student. Good luck as always.
You must have a camera in my house mam because everytime I start to learn a new piece you pop up with the exact same piece I want to learn LOL thank you for this video. Would you say its not technically difficult but more of an expression challenge?
Glad this video was pertinent to your studies. I think this composition is a complex mosaic of technical/musical challenges that encompass voicing/balance, melodic/harmonic understanding, fingering choices/substitutions to realize a seamless line where that does not always seems physically possible; playing various subtle gradations of dynamics, etc. avoiding bumpiness, or unwanted accents.. listening very attentively.
Hi sally! Thank you so much for uploading these videos. I have a question regarding which debussy piece to start now. His only piece I know is "piece pour le vetement du blesse", which I learned last year, but I want to learn a new one. Should I go for the arabesque, the reverie, or maybe doctor gradus ad parnasum? I'm an intermediate level pianist
This is one of the first pieces I've tried to learn on my own since my dear teacher died last year. Your video is SO helpful! Thank you.
I found your lessons the other day. Sincere thanks. Subscribed.
Your'e very welcome!
I have just started learning this, it's easily the most difficult piece I have attempted to learn but it's a great challenge.
Thanks for sharing.. Enjoy the journey!
@@ShirleyKirsten and thank you for making this video.

Perhaps Gradus with the redundant rotations..
@@ShirleyKirsten Thanks! I'll give it a try :)
You skipped the 3 measures that I personally find difficult to play and make sense of; measures 23, 24 and 25.
I believe I have another video on those very measures that i made for a student. I will check my files and post here.
I found this one.. and I will post still another: This goes through the piece, and covers your measures. czcams.com/video/UB-XPIiYCj0/video.html
And here's the second one I promised. czcams.com/video/-wT3WkjGHVs/video.html Both of the overhead tutorials should help you
Shirley Kirsten Thank you so very much.
