In the story trailer, we could only see the bottom half of Messmer's eye and everyone thought he was a mix of dragon and serpent. It was brilliant of them to hide Marika's seal under his eyelid.
If Miyazaki offers you a flower, things are about to get real nasty!
This boss reminds me of my eternal struggle against the blackberry vines in my yard. They always come back!
The one thing I didn't like about this boss was how it moves so far away with no horse available. But watching it again, I think the trick could be to run towards where it ends up after the first charge (while dodging).
Impenetrable thorns spell is very strong! It's an aberrant sorcery, so scales with faith and uses HP instead of FP, but it does a ton of bleed damage really quickly.
@@NickCombs I've noticed haha
It's boosted by the Staff of the Guilty and Alberich's set
Dude, I've been waiting for someone to make a game where the bosses adapt over time to player strategies. Fromsoft should do that in a future title.
I'd kind of be down for some kind of Nemesis system (from Shadow of War just in case you don't know) adaptation to expand on the multiplayer aspects. It's a similar concept.
Ding ding ding! Melina mentioned! It doesn't explain anything about her past, but this at least confirms Marika is the mother she spoke of.
I'm going to take a slight step back from my statement here. While it's likely Melina who is "his sister," that's really not conclusive enough to say for sure. Melina speaks in generalities of "her mother" and being born and given a purpose within the Erdtree, and here we get another really general clue. I'm going with it for now, but I smell a misdirect.
It's also worth noting that the line about Messmer's sister wasn't added until after the pre-release copy was played by a bunch of people. So it was a last minute thing, like an afterthought almost.
Interesting.
Good question, what is the original sin? We've heard from Enia and Melina that burning the Erdtree is a cardinal sin, but I think the original sin has more to do with what we see in the story trailer. Unfortunately, there's literally nothing in the DLC about it that I know about.
It sounds like Messmer was hidden as soon as the snake was discovered in him, but we know Rellana (twin moon) followed him into the shadow at some point after Radagon married Rennala (full moon). She (twin) could have done so long after Messy was hidden, but then how would she know about it and why wait until later? So it seems like the snake did not show itself in Messmer right away. That's probably true for all of the Marikagon children. Judging by Miquella's apparent age, it happens around the onset of puberty.
I'd feel bad for the guy if only he'd had the moral fortitude to stand up to his mother.
We're getting into the mind blowing section of the playthrough. Very curious to read your takes because I have ideas but they're a mess in my head.
I've been working on an Elden Ring node map in obsidian md. It helps to see the connections between things (and correct wiki mistakes). But it's a long term project for one person.
Oh! Any way you can share?
I looked up the tool. I did research in this space. I was using graphs (computer science term for node map) to create a tool for creativity enhancement. Basically you would create nodes (vertices) for story elements with descriptions/tags and connect them using edges. The program could then suggest different ways to connect things and descriptions/tags to add to the nodes. I also spent lots of time working on representing database data as graphs. Maybe we can collaborate?!
I would love to collab! I need to look into how because a selling point of obsidian is that it's local so you aren't reliant on the cloud. I like the simplicity of markdown too. Basically I put brackets around [[Melina]] and it becomes a link to the doc with that title.
**Spoilers for later game reveals in the main game:
So, burning the Erdtree is a cardinal sin and it says he was keeping company with the original sin. Is it his flames that are the original sin? I'm confused on that but very intrigued. Interesting that she hid that one child away who was a threat to the Erdtree, though then she put the rest of them into a bloodline battle royale, even potentially planning for one of them to die because "fate" 😂 I'm still confused on at what point in the timeline she sent him there because I think that would give a lot of insight on her controlling what was going on vs her being controlled by the forces beyond her. Like, if she sent him there before, then she was keeping him as a failsafe maybe for if she was betrayed vs he was sent away because he could destroy the Erdtree and overthrow what they'd built. Oddly, I always thought it was a bit of both with Marika; it seems her consorts were all chosen to produce strong beings genetically, even to the point where she just decided to asexually procreate (and with that is another Ranni rabbit hole theory). I do not think I will ever get tired of the lore from this game 😂
The scadutree spirit avatar looks incredibly different. The Erdtree Avatar seemed extraterrestrial while the Scadutree Avatar seems to be more Earthly, so the description of it being a "shadow" kind of makes sense.
25:06 is priceless 😂 28:21 the ultimate Boop.
I hope you stream it when you play the DLC again. These types of games are timeless.
You heard it first here, Messmer is based 😎
A true edge lord.
