    Don’t know if you’d see this comment, but I guess it will be useful for other owners as well: Be gentle and careful with this device, especially when traveling, it is more fragile than Kindle due to internal design specifics, and screen replacement is unreasonably pricey

    I agree with you about e-readers in general. My wife gave me a Kindle for Christmas 2011; at the time, I wasn’t sure that I really wanted it, but I very soon decided that I liked it, and quite soon preferred it to paper books. I’m not completely committed to Kindles, and your Onyx device seems a viable alternative, but I don’t think I’ll rush out and buy one, especially as I got my third Kindle only recently.

    I bought a Kobo twelve years ago and it has become the main way I consume books. I use it every day (I like reading in bed with a single finger poking out of the covers to turn pages), but the battery has expanded and the back cover gaps a little, so I know I'll have to change it soon. I'm impressed by the features on yours, especially the ability to install app and the bluetooth! I'll investigate Boox when the time comes!

      I love reading in bed. so much easier than doing it with a book

    My journey from paper to ereader was a pumpy one. I was that reader that just wouldnt let go the feeling of the pages and smell of books... But then my cousin convinced me to try with his own ereader and the rest is history haha. Never again was I afraid to be caught off guard bookless at the bus, a waiting room, or even a boring distant relatives reunion. Now I can have 7 books in my back pack for the weight of a notebook. That said, I would never give up physical books, I like reading books at the same time but on different mediums. Audiobooks are great for the gym, if the loud music allows it...

    When I light the e-reader screen up here, I have the brightness all the way up, which is pretty overkill. When I turn the light on in a dark room, I usually have it more around 5%.

    Hi Chloe. As I love reading books I have many ebook readers. Kindle Oasis 2015 & 2019 , Kindle paperwhite signature edition, Kindle basic 2022 and Kindle Scribe.
    Also I have Onyx Boox max , Boox note air2 and recently got a Boox Poke 5.
    I have to say , Kindle devices versus Onyx boox are comparison between Apple iOS and Android.
    Kindles are really simple , polished and straightforward. Meanwhile Onyx boox devices are very customizable.
    The most disappointing thing on Pock 5 is “battery drain”.
    When I come back to my Pock 5 I see that battery percentage is almost completely decreased. For example from 90% to 10% for just one week.
    That is very bad about Boox devices particularly about Poke 5.
    I hope this big software issue be fixed soon by a firmware update

      @@JoeAnshien Yes. I exactly do this but nothing again. Heavy battery draining. As when I back to my Poke book after to weeks , it has been shutting down due to completely battery die

    what does Libby look like on it? that’s how I get most of my ebooks and I typically send them to my Kindle. this looks like a really great option for the next time i’m looking for another ereader

    • @ChloeFrizzle
      @ChloeFrizzle  Před 4 měsíci

      It works about the same as ebooks on the phone with Libby. Honestly, I still end up sending my Libby ebooks to the Kindle app, because the Kindle app's annotation interface is better than Libby's.

    5-year battery life? I have four smartphones from 2012 and the batteries still work ideally. I would say the battery life is about 20 years, not 5. I guess the key is to not use maximum brigthness. Anyway, good review!

    I'm thinking of buying a e-book reader. Which should I buy? Kindle or Boox poke 4. What do you recommend?

    • @ChloeFrizzle
      @ChloeFrizzle  Před 26 dny +1

      If you're just planning on reading Kindle books, then a Kindle is definitely more reliable. But if you want other apps and options, I'd recommend helping a Boox

  • @MeRenegade

    How do apps like Reddit, discord, twitter work on it? I really need an e device for my game design research and study and kindle is not cutting it.

    • @ChloeFrizzle
      @ChloeFrizzle  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I can't speak on those apps specifically, because I haven't tried those. However, here's my experience with similar apps and internet browsing:
      The device is pretty laggy, both because of the RAM on the device and the screen refresh. It takes a while to open any app, or load a new website. Scrolling is the most clunky, as the refresh of the screen just isn't built for it. It's moderately usable, but definitely annoying and I wouldn't recommend using it regularly for internet research

    • @MeRenegade
      @MeRenegade Před 3 měsíci

      @@ChloeFrizzle the screen refresh is something that doesn’t bother me as it’s part of the e ink system but RAM is what u am worried about. Since it’s android and u wonder if any tabs or phones even have 2 gb ram anymore so android won’t be optimised around that low a ram
