  • Enjoy spending some time with my African Bullfrog, Samson. He likes taking long soaks in his water feature and eating a variety of foods. In this video, we take a look to see what he likes best.
    In all seriousness though, I wanted to make a fun and display of these incredible animals. They're beautiful, have awesome personalities, and are actually quite intelligent. Enjoy!

    I feel like Bullfrogs are simultaneously impossible to overfeed and the easiest pet to overfeed. They eat so much and in the wild are opportunistic and should be “kinda fat” but also they will basically eat as much as you give them. Awesome video!!!!! Samson is a BEAST!!!!!

    So many popular youtube herpers don't wear gloves when handling amphibians, and when I call them on it get yelled at. Particularly when they are out "herping" in the wild handling many different individuals, and spreading Chytridiomycosis and teaching their viewers bad habits. So good for you Tanner, giving a good example!

      @@stefanostokatlidis4861 you can have your opinion of course, but researchers have hygiene protocols for handling amphibians because the science is clear. Please don't conflate covid politics with Chytridiomycosis.

      @stefanostokatlidis4861 Před 2 lety +1

      @@jimmyjames2022 restricting freedoms for the sake of preventing disease transmission and jargon like emergent diseases is for sure political. See what is happening with Covid around you. Mammals are not natural carriers of this fungus. If you sample many amphibians in a sensitive area you may need to get precautions, but the average person does not do this. Many researchers also advocate for disinfecting equipment and other materials which had contact with the habitat of amphibians. Do you know how many vehicles come and go through those areas? There are people who live near amphibian ponds. Should we restrict their movement as well? Nothing is unexpected now, but this is extreme. Others collect amphibians for food in some areas. So this is culturally insensitive as well.Also the disease isn’t usually a big threat in temperate areas with resilient species.

    Hey Tanner!
    I'm curious, is this how much he eats every meal? How often do you feed him?
    He is such a cute chunky boy 😍

    • @SerpaDesign
      @SerpaDesign  Před 3 lety +48

      I only feed once a week. Usually about this much, but it varies on the menu. If I feed him a rat, then just one. If I go exclusively with something like nightcrawlers, it will most likely be a whole can. I don't go too heavy on items with hard exoskeletons though. They're usually just an add on item.

      I love that comparison. I guess the juicy bugs like hornworms would be like the veggies in the salad.

    He’s so adorable when closes his eyes and swallows
    And when he sees the night crawlers and eats it like al dente

    At first I thought "that's a lot of food for one frog", then I saw the food next to him and realized it was like snacks.

    When Tanner does a live feeding video, it feels right. LOL. Circle of life ... that's nature. I like the bull frog. It's cool. You spoiled that frog. A frog with particular eating habits. :)
    The video is great. It's funny. You put a lot of thought into it.

    This is a great idea for new content, it`s neat to focus on one animal and it gives some context for why they would want their enclosures to be set up they way they do.

    These animals are the coolest. I used to find them a lot when I was younger in the high altitude plateaus of South Africa. So awesome.

    2 years later you'll probably never see this, but it's a great connection for me between two of the people I have enjoyed following the most. One of the great animal lovers was Gerald Durrell, who pioneered humane breeding zoos. He wrote hilarious books, and in one of them he had a Bufo bufo who shared his desk. Best wishes.
