Yeah, I also had some recordings from that night but sadly they have been lost. And this recording would gain added poignancy a couple of years later after the death of Jill Dando.
I was wondering am I right to say that the different BBC regional broadcasting centres had a different voice-over announcer over their local ident which linked into the regional news programmes and other local programmes but the network continuity and announcements into the network programmes were done by the duty continuity announcer at BBC Television Centre?
0:37 - The vastness of the computer generated set just seemed pointless as the space was never used, couldn't be used, as the newsreaders were 100% stuck sitting behind the desk. At least with the 2004-2009 ITV News virtual set, they used the space well. Here, it seems by 1997 the set became pointless. Apparently there were plans to utilise the virtual set, but were never implemented.
Silicon Graphics computer was used to hide the cameras and monitors with distortion, only live images was of the presenter and 3x1metre planners behind her.
Hi Alan, is it just me, I really miss the old VHS videos. I loved them. Yes they were clunky and could stick, but Sky+, Sky Q, Tivo etc does not have the same feeling as recording a show onto tape. At least you have the video, if the hard drive on these new PVR crash, you lose all recordings. Am I getting old? Nostalgia.
There was definitely something about VHS. Maybe the action of putting a physical tape into the recorder, or the imperfection of the recordings. Somehow Sky+ doesn't seem right. I think we are getting old!
I agree, loved VHS players, and I remember being happy at being able to record BBC1 whilst watching ITV. My family had huge amount of cassettes, all labelled. Each of our family had their own tapes. Mines usually had sitcoms like Dad's Army, Steptoe and Son, Brittas Empire etc.
Wow, seeing them talk about Princess Diana at the start makes you realise that four days later the princess would be dead.

R.I.P to Diana Princess of Wales she may be gone but she will never ever be forgotten!
Has anybody noticed that when they cut from the network to the regions there is a slight black fade before it shows the local BBC One ident
Wow your uploads are really good quality!
rare to see jennie bond do the one o clock news
+Wesley Cracknell i think Edward Stourton might not of been able to do that one o'clock bulletin
How unusual to have a women presenting the One o’clock News.
