      Hey Simon! I have a question for you, how do you store your foam pads that you've used but not ready to toss out yet? I have these same blending tools, & I've been keeping them in a ziplock baggy inside a pouch with the blending tool - would you say that's a good idea or bad idea?

    • @simon.hurley
      @simon.hurley  Před 4 lety +2

      Hmmm... that’s a good question. You can store them underneath you ink pad with tape or Velcro. Or just store them in little plastic bags with the color in it. :)

      Thanks for the tips! I agree about your card stock. I also agree with others about the flimsy backing on the foam now. I wish Ranger would go back. I wouldn’t mind paying a little more.

    Thank you so much! This video was very helpful. My favorite tip was that the sponge works better when well saturated with color. I also loved seeing your final technique of using the water on the background stamp. Looks fantastic!

    I used your tip today! I needed to ink a bright color through a stencil, and swiping the blending tool across the ink pad worked like a charm. It came out exactly the way I wanted...hot pink polka dots on white cardstock. Thanks!

    I just need to tell you how amazing your stark white card stock is! I am new to ink blending - I have struggled to get a smooth blend around the edges / almost speckled - it just wasn’t absorbing the ink - I have watched so many videos & bought numerous card stocks & just not getting a smooth saturated edge & gradient blends. I was really about to give up. I watched this video & ordered your stark white card stock as a final last result. What a game changer! I am amazed at how beautifully my ink blending is now!!!! Fully saturated along the edges, not speckled with the white coming thru. And after I sat it aside & came back later the blend is so beautiful! I just can’t believe my issue was the wrong card stock & all the other recommended card stocks just weren’t working. Your card stock is amazing! Thank you so much for your videos!

    Great tips Simon, sadly Ranger now have super thin pads and flimsy with the blender tool duos, which are no where near as good as the black backed, foam. Hopefully they go back to the black backed ones. Thanks for your blending tips.❤️

    • @user-mv9tt4st9k
      @user-mv9tt4st9k Před 4 lety +1

      Ranger sells full sheet ink foam. It is for creating your own ink pads. I love it, though it is pretty thick. You might be able to cut it into circles and use for blenders. My blender squares (non- handled) have a rounded circle with foam between it and the hook (Velcro) to hold the blender foam. The foam gives the blender base a little cushion.

  • @kevinvanderborght1934
    @kevinvanderborght1934 Před 4 lety +3

    Saturated foam pads help immensely with ink blending. Tapping off excess ink is a thing I do aswell. If I need some more, I can pick up the previous excess ink from my surface because I use a glass mat. Zero waste that way.
    Last one and I don't know if it is the Simon Hurley ink quality or if it is the size of the ink pad (before I always bought ink cubes i.e. distress ink and Altenew) but ink blending seems easier with bigger ink pads. Maybe better saturation of the foam pad?

    • @charlottemarek3045
      @charlottemarek3045 Před 4 lety

      I've found that stamping works better, too, with a full-size ink pad. I personally think it's because the cubes just don't hold enough ink.

      Just add a tiny drop and work it into the ink blending sponge, then add your colour. Doesn't work with oxides but it does work with inks.

    I agree with the glycerine technique below 😃a teeny tiny bit. Also I have found that Spectrum Noir blending foams works much better and smoother than the Ranger foams! I wonder if this is due to Ranger foams made to "distress" ? Or if it's just the different chemical make up of the different brands foam. I tried a generic brand too and those are different as well. So I like to use the spectrum noir foam for all my ink pad brands 🤩 thanks Simon!
