Meanwhile the end of the British Empire was Britain going "You know what? Indonesia was a major victory for western block in 60s. Yet little known. A large, dominant communist party was literally toppled overnight, without shedding blood of a western soldier, unlike in Vietnam. Imagine if the movement is successful and Indonesian army was taken over by communist-inclined generals. It will be a huge headache for US and allies.
jesus h christ USA had kill lists for Indonesia, poor USA has to kill a million people in Indonesia and Guatemala to be comfy
I think the G30S is the last plan of the Indonesian communist party. But because their main plan for the coup was to form the 5th armed forces (filled with peasants and workers), they did not plan the G30S carefully.
Maybe President Soekarno himself had smelled a strange gesture from them, where the leader of the Indonesian communist party, D.N. Aidit always asked for the approval of the 5th armed forces. but was always refused.
From there it was seen where Soekarno with the Indonesian National party remained with Stalin while D.N. Aidit chose to be Mao Zedong's proxy. This is confirmed from Mao's conversation with Aidit to prepare the 5th armed forces thoroughly and Aidit is very sure Soekarno would agree, which the reality is always denied and sucks.
another thing that strengthens is the letters of Stalin-Aidit. Aidit asked for full support when he succeeded in arming the peasants and workers and then carrying out a revolution. But Stalin actually begged Aidit to obey the leader of the country president Soekarno and not to be childish, especially.. Indonesia is an archipelagic country.
Poor Aidit. 🗿🗿🗿
A plus side about the failed coup is by removing the PKI, the chance of the US directly inva- intervening in Indonesia just like what they do later in Vietnam is basically nullified.
Fun fact: CIA toppled the Chilean communist regime, with the same method and strategy like in our G30S, under the name of "Operation Jakarta". Glenn Greenwald said that Indonesia served as a model for "clandestine CIA interference campaigns" in myriad other countries throughout Asia and Latin America to destroy the non-Aligned Movement.
In other words, we are just a testing ground for USA's shenanigan.
I recommend you guys to read "The Jakarta Method" by Vincent Bevins. I think it's a good book to understand how FUBAR the G30S tragedy from the foreigner's perspective.
Event Indonesia in 60's
Trikora 1962 (fight with Netherlands in Papua), dwikora 1963 (fight with British commonwealth and they allied) ,G30S 1965(dead for 6 general and 1 are seve),and Supersemar 1966 (end of Soekarno As president)

Konfrontasi was huge but it wasn't the truly huge thing, it did give Sarawak and Sabah though.
The communist insurgency, racial riots (there were some before and after May 13, but only smaller and lesser known than it), the Indonesian Confrontation, the introduction and entry of US fast food companies, which also led to independent local vendors selling similar products, Volvo starting their assembly operations here.

I doubt the First Malayan Emergency (1948-1960) was extended to Sarawak? I think is more like the second phase (1968-1990) of the communist insurgency in Malaysia that started to affect East Malaysia. The communist terrorists are also different to both places. In Penisular Malaysia was Malayan Communist Party (MCP) and for Sabah & Sarawak was North Kalimantan Communist Party (NKCP). These two parties were completely independent from each other and both have their own leadership.
Among these two, MCP is the most aggressive. They killed more people and they managed to assassinate high profile persons like British High Commissioner of Malaya- Sir Henry Gurney, Malaysia's third Chief Police -Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Bin Hashim and Perak state Chief of Police - Khoo Chong Kong. It was a dark period of our history but it manages to strenghten our special forces.
