A fun segment to closely analyse one great beam routine from each competitor.
Shawn Johnson is the 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist on Beam. Simone Biles is the 2012 Olympic All Around Champion.
Each competitor will be closely matched in style and skill. It's up to YOU to decide who's queen of this apparatus.

Shawn has clean, consistent beam work, but Simone is dynamic and her skills are more difficult. They're both better than we could ever be, so our opinion doesn't even matter.

Wow, Shawn's routine was incredible, she stuck nearly every single landing almost perfectly except the dismount. Simone too is amazing, both are queens

simone is without a doubt the greatest gymnast of all time, but shawn is an olympic beam champion which is something simone can’t say (yet). from their time competing, shawn was absolutely more consistent on beam than simone is. shawn’s routine was better and more difficult imo but simone’s dismount is obviously amazing and crazy difficult. shawn’s only real weakness was the dismount, which gave less deductions than mistakes on the actual routine, which simone makes more of. both are queens and my favorite gymnasts of all time! 💖

Both were strong in some things and weak in others. Both are awesome!
Shawn Johnson can perform on the balance beam like most people do on the floor. She is awesome!! That was just one bad move and dismount on her behalf but most of the time she is on target. Her balance beam routines are as powerful and fast as a floor routine without any wobbles or falls. Simone biles is just as awesome. Simone said that her weakness is the uneven bars but she’s gotten better in that area. They are both gymnast queens of their time.

She has done thousands of beam routines where she nailed the landing. They just picked the wrong one for this comparison.

I think Shawn is better on the beam, but Simone’s full in dismount is by far better than Shawn’s.

The reason simone's was better was cause she had backhandsprings going into it so it's easier. Doing it out of a roundoff is hard.shawn didnt make it easier to win.

Simone is just so clean on almost everything she does. And just so powerful on her flips and connection.
So clean? Almost every competition I've seen her in she's had misteps on everything but because her degree of difficulty is so high,her mistakes don't affect her scores enough to not win. Just to be frank,I enjoy watching her,she is great!

Both ladies are phenomenal. Can't select one over the other. Team Both. Sorry... They are outstanding and are both high scorers.
My beam queen will always be the one and only Shawn Johnson. She just has this solid confidence that cannot be explained. When I watch Shawn, it’s just like she never gets affected by anything, super concentrated. Simone has higher difficulty and her dismounts are so good, but Shawn is definitely my pick

Definitely, The Queen of Beam is Shawn. She has unique tumbling and that concentration on what she is doing. Simone has super difficulty floor, vault but she's not that super on beam. She's beast but Shawn is better there.

Shawn always have issues sticking her dismount. Biles had a few balance checks. So I will say both are queens period.
Carmen Karmel Shawn is awesome! But biles has more world championships than anyone,also biles set a record with 4 gold metals for the women’s gymnastics games. Simone Biles is THE GOAT hands down

Shawn who... Simone is the greatest of all time. The end way more medals everywhere and her difficulty wipes the floor with Shawn’s. It’s easy to be consistent when you don’t have the difficulty lol.
Both queens but if I have to choose as much as I love Simone with al my heart, Shawn’s routine seems more consistent and cleans even though Simone’s dismount is far superior.
I love how they both can easily flip on the beam as if its a floor and they are both queens! I may not be from their country but they are killing it and I support them so much
Shaun had some great very clean series the only fault was the dismount. Simone’s routine didn’t have those huge series but her skills were clean and her flow was amazing not a single hesitation and her dismount was amazing. Both phenomenal athletes
Shawn has better series of moves and connections, but Simone has the stick dismount... personally, I say Shawn...

Cynthia Bula you can disagree but facts are the facts. If you score Simone’s current routine in the same weighting system as Shawn’s her routine is worth more. There isn’t anything to agree with, unless you don’t know how routines are scored. You liking Shawn better is subjective, Simone’s routine bring more difficult is a fact. As is her routine more difficult on floor and vault and probably bars as well (I haven’t looked) but someone would beat Shawn by a entire point and it wouldn’t be close in a all around competition. Lol

Shawn Johnson. Simone is very good but Shawn is sharper and more technical. Love them both... but my vote is for Shawn.

Even though simone has 2 world golds , 2 world bronze , and 1 olympic bronze on beam ... i feel that shawn is the beam QUEEN hands down regardless of how many medals she has !
So , an olympic gold trumps world gold ...and shawn would probably get so many world medals had she not left the sport after beijing , and at her first worlds she made uncharacteristic mistakes or she wouldve likely took gold , shawn is the queen of the beam , its close but shawn takes it , but i got to hand it to simone, shes better at everything else , and her full in on beam is better
@@kevinsam3078 Your point on 2007 worlds is kind of pointless since if Shanshan does not fall too she crushes both Nastia (the actual winner) and Shawn there. Ponor without badly messing up her spin probably beats both too. And it isnt certain Shawn beats Nastia without falling, the two always score almost the same on beam, and Nastia sometimes higher. And if you want to continue what ifs if Shanshan hits in Beijing she wins over Shawn too.
Also had the 2008 Olympics been under 10 scoring Nastia wins over Shawn easily.
As for post Beijing who knows, but her gymnastics in her comeback wasnt super strong. I think she was one always destined for a short peak when she was small.

Ofcourse shawn , its pretty close , but shawn is way more consistent and has been since she started gymnastics, simone took years to be consistent enough between 2013 up until 2015 where she started hitting solid routines, and even then she wouldnt get perfect routines , having hiccups here and there, shawn always had perfect perfect routines

Queen of the Beam or Queen of female gymnastics? It's not about who is better in one area of female gymnastics, but who is the best at all areas of female gymnastic is the only thing that matters. We all know who would win if they both compete in their prime. Simone Biles have Olympic championship and a ton of gold medals to go along with it. Moreover, she is most likely the favorite to repeat as Olympic champion in 2020. And if she does, how many female gymnast can say they are 2 times Olympic champion? Even with out a second Olympic championship on her resume, as of right now, Simone Biles will ALWAYS out rank Shawn Johnson, and the debate will keep favoring Biles with every upcoming competition win. I'm sure Simone don't mind you all favoring Shawn, while pointing out one area of female gymnastic that Shawn MIGHT be better than her, as long as she get the win and the gold medal, while still being known as the GREATEST female gymnast!

The title would make more sense if they both dominated beam as their best event. However, this video was designed to help make a case that Shawn was possible better than Biles in at least one event. If the video uploader really wants to be fair, make multiple event videos of the two, with one title "Queen of floor exercise" Don't be surprise if you don't see it. Also, there won't be a discussion as to who is the most accomplished gymnast between the two.
@@Striker1A Where again you have made valid cases, I think you're missing the core point of the video. If you watch it from 3.41 you can see clip for clip that Biles' BB programme is essentially a tweaked/upgraded version of Johnson's, therefore based on the similarity of not only their styles but even the very composition of their routines, the question is who is better. They have different styles on all other events, so it defies the point of the video. Another example would be Khorkina's UB in 2000 and Tweddle's in 2012.
Johnson may be an Olympic champion on the event, but Biles is the first and only gymnast to defend a World title on the event, which she did in 2015. Think, the entire Soviet Union, the Romanian era, the post Soviet era (Ukraine etc), the Chinese and none of their gymnasts won two World beam titles consecutively.

Both Queens but frankly Simone checks her balance more and Shawn works the beam like she’s on the floor. She’s much more solid. I think they have equal skills but I prefer Shawn’s form and her combination passes.

There is a new SHERIFF in town NOW and her name is Simone Biles. Her medals speak for her. The most won by men and women in gymnastics. Let's see 25 altogether I believe with 19 GOLD medals, 3 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals. I believe Shawn has 10 gold medals. The statistics don't lie my friend.
