Remember when the raptors drafted him and the sports media/social media start freaking out on how could they have pass on Jalen Suggs? I bet a lot of people are eating crow right now. Congratulations Scottie. Here's to hoping that this is just the beginning of what promises to be a wonderful career
I think it was more so the shock factor as we the fans had been dangled Suggs in front of our mouths for months leading up to the draft when scottie was still slated somewhere in the low-mid teens iirc. I want to say that pretty well immediately after his first media availability and that public letter he penned to the city, basically everyone was on his side and I think you would be tremendously hard pressed to find anyone who really still wishes they had taken Suggs over Barnes

Suggs could still be better than Scottie though. It's too early to tell. ROY doesn't mean hes going to be the best player.

I don't know why people would slander them I thought it was kinda obvious they were going to pick him with how much they said they liked him in predaft workouts, and just how much potential he has in general
Definitely, I doubted the pick myself as a raptors fan. I wanted green to slide to 4th but this pick worked out great.
Did you see the video of Raptors fans in Vancouver having a hissy fit when they chose Barnes over Suggs? People just believe and feel whatever the media tells them they should believe and feel.

Scottie kept his head down and grinded out a fantastic rookie campaign from start to finish and put an exclamation mark at the end by winning back-to-back rookie of the month awards. Cade and Mobley are generational talents and guys like Giddey, Wagner, Green, Sengun, Ayo, Suggs, Herb.J, and Mitchell are going to be a problem in the NBA. This whole draft class is special. Congrats Scottie ROY, you earned it.

Scottie wasn't the best player but he was the most consistent.
@@CarlosGarcia-jm8lr nah man those are franchise changing players. Cade and Mobley are gonna be beasts for years barring any serious career altering injuries. Mobley especially really surprised me with how versatile he was. I thought the Bosh/AD comparisons were a little much, but if he polishes his offensive game a little more AND really learns how to play basketball, heâs gonna be a problem.
If scottie aint have all those weapons on his team he would be averaging 20

Well, Lakers are a big market team and then add Lebron to the mix. NBA media was all over their noots this year, win or lose.

This is the best thing nba has done in years. Bringing camera behind the scene into practice facility, their own house and present the awards, involve the whole team, coaching staff. Intimate like we fans are there celebrating with them. Plus bringing back legends as presenters

I don't know if it matters much but Charles would have been voted 3rd for rookie of the year that year cause the 2nd best rookie (and the 2nd best player out of that draft) was future hall of fame Hakeem "the dream" Olajuwon. Really not a bad company to be with.
Who was 2nd and 3rd rookies after Shaq?! Alonzo Mourning and Christian Laettner. Good players but no where near what Barkley had to face. For Shaq to constantly pat himself on the back any chance he gets is laughable. We get it you were great, no need to remind us.
MJ(best ever),Hakeem(top 10 best ever),and Barkley(top 20 best ever)-that class was stack. In any other years-Barkley would won rookies of the year easily.
@@2eken251 Not really Barkley rookie year numbers were good but not great. Those who truly had a great rookie year put numbers that made them look like All-Stars level already (like Luka did in recent memory)

Lol rookie of the year this year is an awesome achievement but means very little considering cade, Mobley, and Barnes were so close, coulda been a toss up. I consider all 3 the rookies of the year..All 3 are gonna be franchise level players. Pistons have a few solid young players in sadiq bey, bagley and Stewart, and they have a young star player in cade. All they need is another cade level player and boom, thatâs their whole core complete now all theyâd need to to is learn how to win with that young squad. Not every young team is like the hawks and Knicks of last year. It takes time itâs a process bro. Now if you said like âimagine being a magic fanâ. I would kinda feel that lol but pistons legit have a few solid peices and a franchise player already to start their rebuild

This is a RARE case where 2 of the 3 nominees were actually on competitive teams where they played meaningful games with playoff implications. Usually it's just trash teams that finish 20-62, where they have little to no pressure.
When a rookie is on a competitive team then normally heâs not the best player on the team.

I had high hopes Watching Barnes in preseason but he blew away my expectations in the regular season. I watched every game that Cunnigham and Mobley played against the Raptors and a fiew others here and there but how many other rookies play every position. When FVV and Flynn went down with injuries, they tasked Scottie, Gary Trent and Siakam to run the point and Iâd say he did a better job then FVV finding players because of his height and vision.
A true all around player, plus heâs just an energetic happy guy, how could you not want to route for him.

i was always high on scottie, i thought he would be the steal of the draft and that he will be better than kuminga, and i think he ended up in the perfect situation in toronto where he is the perfect fit, i thought it was a bit shocking that toronto passed up on suggs but i saw it, however suggs is in a horrible situation and i think if suggs was drafted to toronto, he could be on the same level as scottie

Well deserved! I love him, he was my pick for rookie of the year and I absolutely love him. Coming from a Bucks fan here! You guys in the north got a good one! I tuned into a lot of Raps games this year due to him. Raptors are really good at developing players too so he's got a good home.
