"Why isn't Harley in it? Because Harley represents happiness." Kev and Marc should have hugged him right then and there; holy cow that hit me hard!
She is in the biography comic.
i would hug the shit out of anyone that's been through that and says harley represents happiness.
Her original voice actress, Arleen Sorkin, also plays a minor role in the book.
Dini was brave writing his attack. Not only did I enjoy his book, I felt connected to him as well. Batman has been like a guardian angel to me these years. We need more comics like this one.
this is by far the BEST episode this is amazing and heartbreaking. I love Paul he taught me English.. well his work on batman the animated series did lol i would come home from school being made fun of for not knowing English and flip the channel to the amazing Batman animated series helped me, but it kills me to hear that happened to him, Please Kevin bring him back more often.
"Why isn´t Harley Quinn in the story? Because she represents happiness". What a brave man, admiting like that the hard times of his life. I ll buy the comic book.
+Leonardo Kram hahahahahaha
+Leonardo Kram That got me in the feels a bit.
DC should make Paul Dini the guy responsible for the DCEU.
Finley G I totally agree with you!!!
YES!!! !!! !!!
Finley G
Him and Bruce Timm.
@@daelen.cclark Just don’t let Bruce Timm touch Batgirl.
Kevin taking over like a pro when Paul chokes up to let him relax again! Kevin is the master of talking!!! the King. Interesting that I was listening Smodco Smorning shows recently and one of the last episodes were where Paul tells this story. So emotional. And I'm still amazed how Kev was a Batman in this situation.
Totally, really smooth and empathetic with the cover up. On Kevin's part.
Paul is so brave, I'm glad he told the story and I'm glad he overcame that terrible experience. He's such a great guy, this made me an even bigger fan.
This show is so great! So proud to be a nerd. This episode and Paul Dini really captures what comics and Batman means to me, thank you guys!
uh
Paul Dini is a fucking legend to be able to talk about that incident. This is a superhero backstory in real life.
This is a really special video to me. I have PTSD from a few different incidents, one similar to the what Paul underwent (a mugger tried to cut my throat, nbd..) as well as relatively worse things since then. I'm here watching your show Kevin, and while it makes me feel more comfortable being 23 and still being obsessed with batman as I see you at an even more advanced age with the same passion, this has brought me even more solace. Paul Dini was a huge part of my childhood and is still (and now even more) an inspiration. I choked up when he talked about why he couldn't go to work. about why he couldn't believe in batman. I'm not oblivious enough to realize that my intense magnetic pull to batman is in part a coping mechanism (every story is about a boy who grows up with PTSD). It's hard to talk about all of this but I just want to say thank you to all involved for this video. I'm sorry anyone ever has to undergo anything like this at the hands of other. It really does fuck up your world view and your mind in general. But you guys make it easier, I love you for it and I HAVE to read this book.
"she represents happiness" fucking feels man jesus christ
BRO. Lost it when he choked up on Harley being Happiness. God damn. Pre-ordering this now! I'm sorry you went through this, thanks for turning that pain to triumph.
hearing Mr. Dini's story was very moving and touching. its a shame that fear and pain impacts so many great talents, thank God he decided to jump back in! We love your work sir!! keep fighting, and I know alotta guys that would grab ur back.
This was fascinating! I am definitely going to pick up that book when I can.
Damn, what an episode. I'm buying the hell out of that book when it hits store shelves.
Please WB. Get Paul in as a writer consultant for movie Batman. And justice league, etc.
I want to give this guy a big hug! 😢❤️
Wow, Paul's story of the mugging was powerful stuff.
5 Dislikes.....what sort of heartless monster did this? Be gone to mordor you fools.
+keefriff99 you say CZcams but you mean life itself. You'll find these knuckle dragging bottom feeders anywhere you go.
+Ritesh N At the moment its 1789 likes to 10 dislikes, which is a good ratio for youtube.
Powerful story. Mad respect to Paul for sharing.
I've been in the same situation having been jumped and beaten. and I just want to give Paul a hug.
Oh man. This story hit home to me. I know what it's like to get mugged on the street that you walk by everyday. I remember feeling like I had no control over my life and took me awhile until I forgive myself since for some reason I always felt that it was my fault as if there was something I could have done better when I replay the incident in my head over and over again
Paul Dini is the best guest ever. Man I miss the Dini Dossier
So sorry to hear about this. Paul Dini is a legend in my opinion in the animation industry. The man wrote and made most of the shows I watched when I was a kid. Hats off for sharing this story, and using creativity to get through it.
+Matthew Engebritson me to
My heart goes out to Paul. Taking a horrible tragedy and turning it in to a force for good by writing that book... That's Batman. Paul, you're a real life hero, sir.
I 'm not sure which is more heartwarming, the courage of Dini, the compassion the boys, or the kind, thoughtful and supportive comments of the fans. It says something of the caliber of comic book fans and kind of people that make comics and enjoy them. Feeling good about being a comic book fan right now.
Paul Dini is an absolute legends, and I find myself wanting to offer him a big hug.
That Mr.Freeze Ep is my favourite by far, a true visionary is Mr. Dini
Every time I hear this story my heart breaks for one of my idols. Strong man. Good man.
Watched this while building the Lego Batmobile next to my BvS Batman figure, Arkham Nightwing blindbox figure, and Dorbz Robin. It's been a wonderfully Batman-filled day.
Paul Dini's story was deeply moving. He was very courageous recounting such a painful and traumatic period in life. Thank you for giving him a platform to share his story. I've enjoyed his work for years,
While I never experienced the extent to what Mr. Dini did, I can definitely relate to the "You got mugged? You deal with it." attitude. Short and to the point: It's not fun.
It's fun when you're the one doing the mugging.
This is why I love Batman. Batman inspires positive change, he did so for Snyder, he did so for Dini. Batman inspires and is positive. It's why I despise the cynical Batman bullshit. This captures why Batman is a great character, Dini gets it. He's a truly tough guy with spirit and strength to have gotten through it all.
Snyder sucks balls
This is incredibly inspirational.
This will be the first hardcover graphic novel I'll ever buy.
16:50 almost made me cry. God man i empathise so much with this fellow :(
The sheer bravery and character that Paul shows by not only putting this deeply personal story in print, but also going on camera and telling it, is truly humbling. You're a hero, sir.
Bahahahahahah you don't know what a hero is.
This is one of the most amazing things I've ever listened to. Thank you everyone involved in this wonderful show.
'Dark Knight A True Story'
Was an inspired read.
My respect for Mr Dini and everything he went through.
A mythical beast sends love
I just want to say to Paul Dini. His pain gave birth to his Batman. And his Batman helped me through stuff, it made me who I am. He'd wondered if his work mattered, and it very much did- at least to me personally and many others. Your work mattered sir and it inspired and defined people, your Batman defined me. I cannot express my gratitude and respect enough to Dini. In my mount of rushmore of Writers, Dini will always have a place.
This is the best notification a geek can have. I love this show!!!
What a LEGEND man. All those stories and memories now got a new meaning knowing what he went through. I went through something similar too so I totally get him. So awesome to see he's turned that situation around. A true hero
my dad got attacked the same way walking home not far from where we live an he lost his independence an slowly but surely he got it back he was a legend before it happened an even more of an inspiration to me now as are you Paul dini ur stories make you believe in hope wen the days are black an long so thank you an thank you kev an Marc for an amazing show
Man the feels. this was rough kev. good work guys
+Matt Young Seriously, whenever the camera pans back to a three-shot you see the pain in Kev's face as Paul recounts the story with obvious near-to-tears in his eyes. It was a tough watch, but definitely a good podcast/vidcast. Guess I can count myself as lucky living in Canada, it's something even fewer of us have to deal with/fear.
I want to bear hug Paul Dini, this guy is awesome and made my childhood awesome. To go through that tragic event and still keep going, that takes some real strength. God bless this man, he is just such a great guy!!! I appreciate having him in my life
A humbling story of one who learns what is truly important: humility. Praise and Veneration to Mr. Dini; I am happy that he is still writing! Namaste
Damn, that was so moving. Incredible interview guys
All I can say is thank you to all involved! This show is incredible!
What a powerful and sensitive artist. That's why comics should never be put down as "kid stuff". To pour your demons in a story using such iconic characters is not only commendable, it's the true expression of artistry and craftmanship. Kudos, Paul, you're a corageous sweet giant and a great guy. As Kev said: don't ever stop writing! You justify our fandom and make us better.
Thanks, Fat Man on Batman! One of the best shows on CZcams.
i listened to this first audio only at work, had to pause a few times to stop me from crying at work. Great vid and i cant wait to buy this. It is released the day before my birthday so it will be a small birthday gift to myself.
I just recently caught this episode and his story is heartbreaking. Mr.Dini you have my respect. nobody should have that happen to them, not to someone who brings sooo much joy to people including myself. keep up the writing and bringing joy to others. i use to think batman was a hero but you Sir are a HERO, one of my HEROES. THANK YOU!
I just finished the first interview and adored it! As soon as I click off you have this?!? Love all the podcasts! Thanks Kev and friends!
So glad Mr. Dini made it through the rough time. Im sure he has no idea how inspiring this story was to me. Thanks.
This is heart. My respect to Paul Dini for what he was through and the courage for sharing it with the public.
Just came from GMM, I had no idea you were doing this!
Dude, Kevin, for real, you are one of the coolest guys out there. It doesn't matter how low I am feeling and how low I am, I can watch something you have created and I will laugh until I can't breathe. Thank you man.
took me over a year to finally watch this but wow. I'm so glad he was able to over come the mugging. his writing has been so influential on my childhood. god bless u Paul.
Paul Dini YOU ARE MY HERO!! Never forget that brotha, you became Bruce Wayne that day. I learned so much from your work and I truly live by your stories and art. You made me who I am today. Thank you so much Paul Dini
One of the best , most moving interviews I have ever watched.
Oh Man, just listening to everything Paul Dini worked on, defined so much of my childhood! So much respect for him!! And then listening to that story, damn! Speechless. Can't wait to buy and read the novel!
Powerful Paul Dini I wasn't expecting such a moving story.
I'm so sold. This guy's story combines the still somewhat surreal superhero with the all to real world we live in. The hype is real. 'Til June 21st.
Great show, great episode. You guys went deep with this stuff and it was heartbreaking, yet very compelling to see Paul so emotional and honest about his experiences. I've also had my ass handed to me in the street (not as badly as Paul though) and I know where he's coming from and understand his struggles. Because of that it's even more impressive and... actually heartwarming to see him come on the other end of it, victorious and stronger than ever. AND telling his tale to empower/inspire others. A true legend of the Batman pantheon of writers showing that these are not just 'stupid stories for kiddos'. Thanks for the show, Kevin and Marc and I'm looking forward to seeing more of such excellent content in the future.
i listened to the first episode of fatman on batman featuring paul dini several years ago while operating a crane at work. the next day my boss chewed me out for not doing my job. love you paul.
My deepest respect for Paul Dini. I grew up watching and enjoying many of his creations, he is my superhero!
I just wanted to say thank you. I was assaulted by ten guys a decade ago and they damaged my spine and I've realised watching this that I've never got over it. Dini is so brave. A true inspiration.
So they pulled a Bane on you?
I did not know how therapeutic it could be, to hear how someone experienced similar events and emotions.
U rock Dini! Thanks for that, I really needed it.
I have a friend that went through pretty much the same thing. Luckily he was able to fight back and he didn't have to have surgery. He sounds just like Paul when he tells the story and he always says that he thought he was going to die. It was chilling to hear Paul tell his story.
Loved this! Thank you Kevin, Marc and especially Paul for a great episode.
Paul Dini has the heart of the world and feels everything so pure he's seems like very good man
What a touching story. Tears got in my eyes. My god. Thank You. All involved with this video.
Paul Dini, man... Paul friggin Dini.
That man is still underrated AF, such an incredible talent.
What a good dude. He has so much passion for his work and it obviously means a lot to him. I'll be buying this book for sure.
Paul Dini is such an amazing person. He truly is one of my heroes. Breaks my heart to hear of anything that terrible happening to him. Life is totally fucked sometimes.
Amazing episode. Thank you, Kevin, Mark and the great Paul Dini for sharing this. Can't wait to buy the book.
I never realized how much this man influenced my childhood. This was an amazing guest with some beautiful stories, and one big sad one. Thank you guys for having him on here to share his pop culture testimony. Thank you Paul Dini!
Amazing episode. I hope this channel becomes so much bigger then it is right now. It deserves to have a million(s) viewing audience and is everything I've wanted with Kevin Smith.
Thanks for your honesty and your story Mr. Dini. You helped shape my childhood and touched everything I loved. Thanks Mr. Smith.
When some people try to laugh Batman off as just a comics or cartoons character, I think to myself how easy is to be ignorant of the power of inspiration.
Thank you for your transparency and sharing your story Paul. You inspire us all. Thanks for having him on this episode Fatman.
Kevin, you don't want me to sleep do you?
I've been loving this show so far, but this elevates things to another level.
Good stuff. Although Kevin you have no idea how much I wish you would do videos on like camera techniques or just filmmaking in general. It'd be fricking AMAZING honestly. Would be very cool to see an actual director put out content like that. The process of writing a screenplay as well and how you do it yourself personally too. Sort of like a mini film school video type content. I'm sure it'd be quite a hit too.
Amazing interview! Thanks guys! And Amazing guest! Thanks Mr. Dini!
Much respect to Paul Dini for his brave honesty. Please do not downplay the importance of the lesson of forgiveness. It is an incredibly challenging and ongoing necessity to move on from any difficulty and Mr. Dini is a shining example.
Always enjoy hear Paul's stories. He is truly inspiring. Can't wait till next time he'll pop in.
What a tough thing to go through. Love Paul Dini's work and will definitely be picking this up.
this is amazing, paul retelling a trauma, both the story of the comic and the trauma working together and being individual stories of there own, paul telling the story in this video is an inside look into additional layers and dimensions in the story of the comic
thanks paul, and kevin and marc
Damn. Heavy stuff. God bless Paul. Thanks for the video Kevin and Marc.
Can't wait to read this
Dini's a fucking champ! Seriously can't wait for this. Dude is hands down the best Batman writer. Gets the character like no one else. He made my childhood with BTAS. Back when "kids" shows taught valuable life lessons, unlike the garbage today. Also, I wish Rocksteady brought him back for Arkham Knight. Writing definitely suffered without Paul..
Mr. Dini, Batman animated series was my catalyst on why I became a police officer and enlisted with the Air Force! The feeling that there are just people that would defend the innocence against people that just want to see this world burn. You are never alone in the dark, as the many soldiers of the light with stride to push back the darkness.
Wow. Blimey. Amazing strength of character in Paul, and lovely way of addressing the issues with support, wit and humanity by our dynamic duo. I think I need that comic. I had a similar assault, with no justice resolution. I had to walk the same route soon after (it was on the way to my weekly rpg, geeky eh) and I as never sure if it was healthy or brave to do so, or that it entrenched the nervousness I felt each time. To use it and create something from it, that's amazing. Bloody well done Paul.
Outstanding, Fella's! Sign me up for a copy. Ill be revisiting a lot of Paul Dini's work for the next few months. Thank you, for an excellent interview.
My favorite episode so far, inspiring stuff
This was so great, i can't believe this exists and it's free
An excellent Part II, Boy Wonderz! Can't wait to get Paul's book when it lands!
Yep, Heart of Ice is my favourite BTAS episode. By far.
Thanks Kevin. FMOB fan since the beginning, and the Paul Dini episodes are in my top 10. Seeing the big guy choke up really hits you where you live. Book is a must buy for me. Oh, the Fillion/Tudyk show was awesome! Huge "Firefly" fan! Love those guys.
I love these guests on the show all of them have been amazing...such interesting people. Tks guys =)
Just finished watching Mallrats. Started playing INJUSTICE. Then this show gets posted. Perfect night.
Injustice is really amazing
Wonderful. What a career! You are an inspiration. All of you. Thanks chaps, love your work.
