    When watching freedive videos I tend to hold my breath without realizing it :-). Just seeing the water activates my mamallian dive reflex.

    Thank you, we had a blast :)
    We stayed at something called "The Danish Village" at Mellieha on the northwest tip of Malta, 5 km from the ferry crossing to Gozo.
    Theres a huge wreck located just 200m offshore from the diving parkin lot next to the Gozo ferry. Its 53 meters long and lying at 33 meters I think. You can see the mast from the surface, I think there is about 18 meters to the tip of the mast. Very easily accessible, its marked by a huge yellow buoy visible from the coastline.

    @folsberg  Před 11 lety

    Also, if you want something a little shallower, theres the P31 wreck located at -20 (the one seen in the video with the yellow submarine). Its located at Comino Island between Malta and Gozo. You need a boat to get there.
    The final footage from the video is from the Blue Hole in Gozo. Lots of caves and tunnels with depth from 10-40 meters.
    Lots more to see, but thats just where we were diving.
    Have a great trip!

    Amazing video and amazing visibility. What month did you stay freediving in Malta. I am looking for having the best possibility to find this water visibility when I am going this summer/autumn....Thank!

      The trip was arranged by Innerdive and was in Malta. Innerdive is run by champion freediver Jesper Stechmann. I think he is based in Malta permanently during the summer season. Visit him at Innerdive on facebook.

    Nice Video! I have one question though, what is level 1 and level 2 mean? I have recently gotten into diving and would love some elaboration.

    • @folsberg
      @folsberg  Před 8 lety +4

      +Reuben Allen Sure.
      Level 1 is the entry level where you learn a lot of good basic techniques including safety. You learn to handle a simulated black out at 10 metres and you get to dive to 20 meters and beyond.
      Level 2 takes you past 30 metres with focus on advanced equalization techniques like mouthfill and you learn about streamlining for your freefall (when you get negatively bouyant and start to glide down)

    I don't know how SSI does it but there were some corrections that needed to be made on some of these students. Especially in regards to keeping the chin tucked while diving and having that free arm up and overhead in case you come in contact with something or someone. I realize that in a level 1 course, the likelihood of suffering a tracheal tear is slim at 20 meters or less however it's just good practice to tuck the chin. You look up like that with your head cocked back, down to 40 meters or more, and you're in trouble. Also, upon resurfacing, get both arms up overhead elbows to ears and again, keep the chin tucked. Again, I don't know how SSI does it but it's on another level at FII.

    • @folsberg
      @folsberg  Před 5 lety +1

      Good points Michael. The one about raising the arm(s) as you approach the surface was actually mentioned but I guess some of us forgot while in the water. About the chin, I can't really remember since its a long time ago now, but I think we only discussed that it would aid equalising keeping it tucked in. As this was a beginners level 1 course no one went beyond 30 metres. I appreciate you pointing it out though, will keep it mind next time I dive for sure.

      Crystal Freediving the smaller one we dive through is resting at 20 metres with about 12 meters to the deck I think, so its an easy dive

      Ugrin Ilievski Well It was level 1 and level 2 students combined....it is amazing to see the progress over a week ofr the students - and we take them as far as they can/want.

    Can you give me a breakdown of the costs for the whole trip? If it is not that simple, can you give me a breakdown of the prices for the freedive training there? Great video!!

    • @folsberg
      @folsberg  Před 6 lety

      Jesse Moral sure thing. Its been a few years so I cant remember the exact pricing, but I bought a package deal which included direct flights on a chartered plane from Copenhagen as well as accommodation in holiday houses called The Danish Village. We had courses all week except a single rest day. Courses lasted from 8 to 16 I think which included yoga in the morning. We had one day on a boat visiting the Christ statue as well the Comino wreck and some caves and one day with a trip to Gozo and the blue hole and the azure window which was still standing back then. Total price was aprox. 1000$
      I suggest you hit up Jesper Stechmann or his company Innerdive on facebook since a lot have happened since, they have a permanent base in Malta now.

      The ship is resting at the bottom which is at -20 meters. I think the deck is about -12 or 14 metres, I am not sure.
