  • To further our recent exploration of single tonguing, here's an exercise to go along with all of the talking and spitting of rice!
Well, first, let's establish that you MUST THOROUGHLY KNOW and practice your scales! If you think you know your scales because you can, given enough time, figure out the correct key signature.... hopefully this episode will convince you that you must learn your scales on a much deeper level than that.
Next, I give you the perfect De La Sonorité exercise to work specifically on single tonguing. This comes to us straight from Grandfather Marcel Moyse.
    Enjoy practicing your single tonguing!

Great to be reminded about Grandpa Moyse's flute exercises and how useful they are if done properly and with specific goals in mind! Thanks such an enthusiastic and inspiring presentation.

This is a great video and a great exercise to help train single tonguing! I want to focus more on using the tip of my tongue and what that will feel like :))

That chromatic exercise going back to starting note is something I love doing to practice shifting on violin! Very difficult! But I've never done it marcato (similar to single tonguing, I guess) - that would give it a whole new level of challenge!

It makes sense that variations on this exercise would be done by other instrumentalists, and for other reasons, as well! 👍
