Also it’s important to note that the ball has 2 different length arms. The longer end faces the snap ring end. That end is marked with a groove near its end.

I noticed he only put a small amount of grease on the ball. I was planning on packing it with grease. Is there a reason he used so little grease or it is just wasting grease by packing it? I have JJs that are barely a year old and are already starting to squeak a lot so I'm trying to figure out how to fix it.

I haven't done it myself, but I have heard if you really try to force grease through the zerk you can push some of the bushing through the washer. If you are taking them apart to clean and repack, they don't need a lot of grease. What he put on there is probably all you need, after all, it is named the Johnny Joint after that guy in the video. 🤣🤣🤣

I take mine apart, clean them and coat everything with a thin layer of grease. There really isn’t that much room for a lot of grease

He mentions in the video to be sure and install the washers with the sharp side facing out. I just received 4 JJ rod ends from them and discovered 7 of the 8 washers are installed with the sharp side facing inwards. Where is the quality control? I emailed them and Erik replied it isn’t much of a big deal. Go figure.😳

Seems to be the new normal when ordering stuff. Very few companies stick to their word and are accountable for their actions anymore.

I would definitely want a snap ring with that much pressure on it to be installed correctly 😬

Perhaps 3 years ago they used a different snap ring, as the one I just removed looks identical on both sides. You also don't need to buy the $150 tool shown, the only pressing needed is during snap ring installation, and a clamp with 32mm socket does the trick.

How often should Johnny joints be rebuilt? Do they make noise as they wear out?

Yes they will start clunking and the arm get some "slop" rotationally.
