    THANK YOU!!! You are a life-money saver. I was thinking to purchase the Cricut machine to make the letters, now I can save money and do my signs. I have so much scrap wood that I can't wait to start working on some projects I have in mind.

      Youre so welcome. Also, try printing what you want from your computer and placing a sheet of carbon paper under it. Then you can trace it on to the board and paint inside the lines perfectly.

    This tutorial was a game changer! I had bought expensive vinyl stickers and put them on my pallet, but when i stained over them, it completely bled under and ruined it! With this method (even though it took forever to cut all the letters) was perfect! I didn't have to worry about my not so good painting skills effecting the project! Thanks!

    • @OurHouseChannel
      @OurHouseChannel  Před 6 lety

      Great to hear that. You can also use carbon paper. Print out the graphic or letters you want at the size you want, place them on your board with carbon paper under it, and trace it. Then you can use paint pens to fill in the tracing.

      +Alex Fuller Nice! Love that. Ok, in this project, I used cheap computer paper. You can print this out if you want to as an alternative. I traced mine but using a printer works great. I honestly can't remember the font name, but if you search on Google or Bing you can search fonts and find a huge selection. The glue is used is Mod Podge. But its the same thing as Elmers Glue. Either is fine. Thanks for watching

    • @OurHouseChannel
      @OurHouseChannel  Před 8 lety +1

      +ToniJohn Rinella The glue dries clear, but it leaves a sheen. So either coat the entire board with the glue or try a bit of spray on sealer. I usually just brush the whole project with the glue.

    WHAt if I want a different color letter?

    • @OurHouseChannel
      @OurHouseChannel  Před 7 lety +1

      +SGD There are a couple of ways you could go about that, but there are a few things to consider. You could print it on colored paper. The thing with that is, when you wet it with the decoupage, it may "bleed" or fade the color. You could paint or use a marker before you decoupage, but it may also bleed. Those effects might actually turn out cool, but if you want a solid deep color, find a colored paper that is coated or at least not so porous. That way the glue can't soak in to it as much.

    Great Video! How would this sign hold up outside? Thanks

      +Faith Not Limited Company Thanks so much. It could survive outdoors with a good exterior sealer. You'd have to find one that wouldn't yellow in the sun though and totally encapsulate it in the sealer. Under a roofline would help. But ultimately, mother nature breaks things down fairly quick.

    I have amazing aged wood boards I would love to use, you said not to sand, but its really grungy, how do I clean it with out ruining it to make it paintable? I mean really grimy, like moss and stuff.... ( Fricken Roger ) lol !

      +eveny119 LOL! Glad you caught the reference. Well if it has moss, that tells me there is or was moisture. If it has moisture in it still, sanding would make it gummy. If not, sanding is ok. You just don't want to sand too deep because that would remove a lot of the character. Try a scraper to remove the moss and test some areas with sandpaper.

      +Emylia Fernandez With this project, I used a brush and applied the decoupage all over the surface as a sealer.

    Can you polyurethane over that once it is done?

    • @OurHouseChannel
      @OurHouseChannel  Před 6 lety

      You can yes. If its going to be outside, thats a great idea. If its only going to be indoors, you can simply brush the glue or decoupage across the entire surface to protect it.

      +Stephanie Baker I know! The best way I have found, and quickest, is a reciprocating saw with a demo blade. Cuts through the nails.
