this not Das Boot , this is a drama film about real events, but Da Boot is fiction drama.

Dreadful! I've never seen such an inept Boat's crew. If they behaved like that in a war they wouldn't have got out of harbour before being sunk. I should know, I served in Submarines.
It must have been quite an effort for (A)Dolph Lundgren to play a German submarine captain, but he does it very convincingly. What also comes across very well is the aversion of the German navy towards Hitler. I had two professors at university who both served on German subs; they talked a lot about "honour", "courage" and "fairness in battle", but also about "human decency" and "respect", if not admiration for / of their enemies. After the war the small flock of surviving German submariners met each year with their British and American counterparts, many stories were swapped, and long-lasting friendships were forged. When one member of this exclusive club passed away all submariners were present at his funeral, and a gang of six laid his casket to rest. This movie depicts very well the efforts and internal conflicts of the last remaining German submariners when given the order to attack and humiliate the Americans. They were sent on a suicide mission, they knew it, and still went to sea, just to die in a war that was already lost before they even boarded their subs.
Most regular soldiers in the German army were decent people .
It was the SS who were evil soldiers of Hitler who were so indoctrinated with hate for others that they performed atrocities believing they were exterminating vermin from the face of the earth .
It is unfortunate that we have this evil minority in every ethnic group that is driving others by peer pressure .

I think history, the attempt the kill Hitler by his top military personnel, the condemnation of the Generals wise enough to retreat from USSR, getting rid of his very best General, etc, shows the illogical decisions and behavior of Hitler.
DAS BOOT WAS BRILLIANT - i got more enjoyment from frying an egg this morning than I did from watching this. Maybe I need to be hungry when watching movies too !
In my selfish opinion, one of the best role interpretation of Dolph in the last years, a lot better than in the Expendables where he did nothing but the presence. Tell us a lot about him, even I never liked him as actor except Rocky. Good play Dolph!
These low level US Navy officers would not have known the information was coming from Enigma intercepts. That information was classified codename Ultra, and the circulation list was extremely small. Those receiving it most likely didn't know the source and it was acted upon without giving the enemy a plausible reason for their plans to have been found out. It was even more important to ensure that the fact the British were reading their radio traffic secret than using the information, even if that meant the loss of lives and equipment. No American forces in the states would have known that we had cracked Enigma.
I don't know abt all the bad comments. I've seen worse. I like sub movies, so if you don't like it, don't watch it. It's not like you bought a Gold Class ticket to watch it, or anything.

Don't believe a liner would be crossing the Pond with all lights on unless it had a huge red cross on the side.
I recall reading about this event about the end of ww2, it good they made a movie, there were many things that happened that were not reported or given a full account this was one of them. U-boats almost succeed in attacking the USA, Hitler ran out of boats and men.
The beginning of the movie at 12 May 1918, its also a real event. Olympic collide with U-103 like shown here
African American were no COs during end of WWII bad direction. Das Boot still my favorite classic war film. Nazis were evil n brave U Boat men had to suffer till the end. 30,000 U Boat men were lost during WWII battle of Atlantic. Only 10,000 survived. Hello from India 🇮🇳

The reason we here because of RMS Olympic on the opening, like seriously look how detail the model of the ship, and also the opening is according real events and showing the U-130 and Olympic collision from perspective of the u boat crews, i just amazed
Only problem is that the propellers are spinning in reverse but the ship is moving forward. 🤔

Captain Samuel L Gravely Jr, was the first black naval officer aboard a fighting ship. He was the first black man to command a Navy ship. Do not dismiss him!! There were few black people in the navy and the armies of this world who were still looked down upon but their families remember them as hero's. Xx

The moment where crew singing to prove their motivation is directly copyed from The Battle of the Bulge.
At least, Samuel L. Gravely junior was duting WWII, an enseign. No chance he could have a command at sea at that time. He did have some only leater.

Quite a good submarine movie, worth the watch. A movie about duty and honor with decent acting. 7.5/10
Personally, I think, its IMDB rating of 3.3 is fair. Its watchable, and Dolph Lundgren does a good job, but thats about it. Das Boot set the standards, and this 1 isnt even hitting the bottom of that scale.

The scene where lungren meets his sea wolfs is exactly the same format as the Battle of th3 Bulge Hollywood movie. I dare say it’s not beyond possibility this sought of meeting took place, but it’s a bit crappy to just cut n paste.

That was actually 1 of the few reasonable items in this movie. Since it depicts Kessler as a young sub officer in 1918, then jumps to tell the story in 1945, where hes gotten old and exhausted and lost everything.
Ofc, it also kinda spoiled the ending, coz why do that scene with the 1918 captain sending young Kessler off, telling him, its the captains duty to go down with his ship, if theyre not ending the movie with Kessler going down with his ship.

well an interesting movie how ever did anyone spot the mistake they made with the sub? the cable going from the conning tower to ther bow was over the rocket tank it blcoked its flight path, then they showed it missing then showed it there again lol

Why does the Captain of the U-boat have a Bundesmarine cap badge, the other officer has the correct cap badge for the Kaiserlich Marine for the time period, the submarine also looks to modern
That is one of the many outstanding goofs in this boring, trite film.
In 1945 the highest rasnking African American in the USN was Warrant Officer, but in this tripe he is a Commander with a bridge full of AfAm crew! Absolute BS and an indsult to every and all serving personell

Ikr, these fake German accents really hurt the ears. And its even worse for a Scandinavian like me, its like Hollywood only knows 2 European accents, French, which they only use to fake French (also usually poorly) and an awful fake German, that they use for every1 else, which is just ridiculous, the differences are so huge. But what else to expect from ppl, who cant even get 1 accent semi correct....
Good film.... gritty and realistic not shiny and Hollywood. btw I served in BAOR , in answer ro the critics on this thread your probably right about the black CO thing because I still remember that the Americans had segregated units back in the 60's in Germany shameful ! It would be even more ridiculous if the U-boat captain was played by Carl Weathers, but a US captain in WWII is a stretch too far IMO.
