His ability to take a loss and bounce back is just impressive to me.
Edit; a little over a year later now and he is my favorite fighter in the UFC, a very active fighter, shows dedication and constantly improves specially the wrestling from Michailidis to now he has really improved his ground game. Learned about his connection with the indigenous tribe, The Pataxo tribe and it is so wholesome to see him being proud of who he is. He was still an alcoholic until that Izzy fight which forced him to quit and actually better himself for his career and his family. He is very close to Glover Texeira with whom he has a very special bond something that Alex hasn't gotten the chance to since his brother died years ago I believe caused by gang violence in the favelas which is another factor as to why he joined combat sports to stay away from that life. The guy's life is a movie and is now two divisional champion in the UFC and Glory. God bless him ❤.
he's mindset is just different. I think he is more a real gladiator
Underrated coment
When he got beat in kickboxing...dude came back and send all of them to the shadow realm like the first fight didn't even happen...guy is an absolute warrior
Comes from his upbringing. He had to bounce back or it was a dark road for him
It's in his blood; his heritage; his ancestors.
You never expect someone this good to have a backstory like "they were an alcoholic from the age of 12 to 21 then thought they'd give the gym a bash". Imagine if this guy dedicated his younger years to the sport... terrifying to think about!
It is truly insane. In just a couple years in the sport he was brazilian kickboxing champion while still drinking on a daily basis. The guy was simply built for it

It is amazing to see how his style changed as he gained more experience. Being more calculated with his movements, better tempo, pace, confidence, energy conservation, analyzing his opponent and his strike precision. What a fighter totally deserves the recognition. So excellent video very well put and explained.
excelent analysis
We also have to consider that he started training at the age of 21 and was soon fighting some elite fighters. When he won the Glory belt he was 28 and had a super-sharp technique.

His guard is underrated because he gets hit a lot but he could adjust his posture a lil bit and he’ll be fine because when I was younger doing kb I had a similar stance and my coach refined it for me he said it’s unique and he likes it and it’s good for avoiding hooks which are the hardest hitting punches but exposes to jabs 😭 had my nose broken once and idek until after the fight well that’s why I stopped training …wanna keep my pretty face 😂
This is the best documentary I've seen about Alex Pereira. Great job, my man. Cheers from Brazil
It just blows me away how everything this guy does is so freaking precise, the knees/flying knees, right hand, kick to body or head, and smooth left hook going back or forward every strike is just freaking lethal, blown away by this guy! Very well done vid.👏🏼 👏🏼 🔥 🔥
I don't quite like the amount of punches he eats: that stuff does cumulative damage to your brain. it's NOT a joke-
@@decespugliatorenucleare3780 he was almost KO'd by a real precise striker. Izzy gonna win the rematch (im not a huge Izzy fan either)
Pereira would probably be a very good craftsman who has an extremely good sense of proportion. He can assess where the opponent is moving and strike there. Many fighter make the mistake of aiming where the opponent is when they throw the punch. Until the hand or foot is there, the opponent has moved and you dont hit properly. Pereira is like a laser.
That warrior DNA from the Amazon rainforests.
23:15 he throws that left almost as if its going to be a weak throw away punch, the kind fighters throw just to keep their opponent busy as they reposition. But in Pereira's case, its an absolute killer of a left. The danger being that there is no crazy windup, no need to have feet firmly planted on the ground, he throws it while advancing, he throws it while backing up, regardless of position or stance, its a fight ending punch. Crazy fighter.
Reminds me of early conor/tyson in that regard. Conor had his lead uppercut that came from nowhere and hurt people, and then a lot of tyson's punches just exploded out of nowhere with immense force.
I was wondering about his "killer" left hook--what the hell? it doesn't look that devastating. Ingas, you said it--you described it superbly.
unreal
Been watching it in slow mo. It's crazy - when you pause it at 23:10 (when he's winding up for the hook), his torso looks like it's twisted - He turns so far after the blow too that it looks like he isn't even looking at his opponent for a second while he covers his chin + steps back while recentering. Even the kick before it - let that go like a cannon with KO intent. KILLERRRR
One Left hook Man
Aprendi , que na vida a gente vai cai e levanta várias antes de se tornar um campeão !!!! Parabéns Poatan !!!!
I used to watch highlights of Mike Tyson knockouts, now I watch Alex Pierra. He has the touch of death. These are seasoned fighters he's taking to the Shadow Realm. these aren't huge telegraphed haymakers, these are normal punches.
You can see how he's evolved as a fighter and avenged all his early losses. He spent a lot of time in kickboxing and came to mma late in his career. But then again, that path prepared him for mma and so far has payed off with a fast rise to ufc Gold. Great summary of his career well done 👏👍
I have to say, this guy is a great fighter. Like, wow. All of his opponents have been serious fighters.
This guy knows his history. Best MMA channel, period.
Alex is now a two division champion and has beat 2 of the best at light heavyweight, also tko’d Izzy for the middleweight strap 🗿
Periera’s striking can just be so beautiful to watch. His fight vs Silva was great and Perieras strikes were so clean and accurate.
That one was a WAR, Silva never was the same after that one
I think Izzy is gonna be faster, but might not have the technical advantage anymore. On the other hand, Poatan will definitely be the stronger one, with his 1HKO power on virtually every strike. Izzy needs to be perfect for 25 minutes to win, Poatan needs a split second. One of the most anticipated bouts in a good long while, can't wait!
You don’t know shi* acting like you do 100 says you’ve never put on gloves

What an absolute all time combat rivalry. The story is insane
I'm brazilian and a jiu jitsu brown belt and have been for 9 years. There's no rush here to change belts, you don't ask. The belt calls out to you. So when you come across a BJJ black belt, the number of dojo hours is immense. This extends to other martial arts here in Brazil. We have respect for our opponents and are in no rush to sport a black belt. I believe that our fighting culture creates more "thick-skinned" fighters.

Congratulations on the video. It was great to present the story of the fighter since he started in the martial arts until his last fight in the UFC. It was interesting to see the development of Alex Pereira, who started kickboxing at the age of 21 and in a short time became Glória's two-time champion. All final twists Poatan won against the fighters who had beaten him. I come to the conclusion that his fighting IQ is high because he learns so fast.
Excellent analysis. I think his rise in mma speaks to your conclusion about fight IQ . Also the two sylebender fights.. a decision, then to a knockout. He seemed to change in both fights making good adjustments.
