  • Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #600
    Date of adventure: 1/13/22
Way out on an extremely desolate stretch of highway halfway between the Amargosa Opera House and the Area 51 Alien Travel Center, a lone casino waits patiently for Yucca Mountain employees that never materialized. The nuke repository might be dead in the water -- but there's still plenty of weird action at Jim Marsh's Longstreet Inn & Casino! It's like being in a David Lynch movie...come with me as I investigate the best place to stay in all of Amargosa Valley!

Ponderossa Dairy in Amargossa has a ton of employees, and they go to the Longstreet and that bar across the street. That's largely why they exist. Same with the Ruby store, which has great burritos, and Martells Market which believe it or not has some of the best chinese food you'll find in Nevada

Very gracious of you to give an upbeat tour of this desert casino. I hope the owner appreciates your good opinion of his venue. I would certainly stay there, in preference to a Las Vegas or Reno experience. I wonder if there is a general aviation airstrip close by. People could fly in, stay at the casino, and not be bothered with big city crowds, noise, crime, etc. That petting zoo is a hit.

@@FrankBullitt390 I think the closest public airstrip to Area 51 is in Tonopah if Rachel doesn't have one. Either way, this hotel is closer to Pahrump, which does have an airstrip, but is in the other direction from Area 51. The closest Airforce base to Area 51 is Creech AFB which actually has roads that lead to Groom Lake.

The Faribanks Morse is an old hit and miss engine, the older ones like that often ran on kerosine. They were often used on farms here in the upper midwest for various jobs. They actually have clubs that collect and restore them. The threshing machine was a surprise to see down there, all the old Scandinavians and Germans up here in Minnesota including my father called them trashing machines.

The FAIRBANKS-MORSE machine is on old diesel single cylinder engine. They were mostly used to generate electricity for manufacturing plants and small cities. But, this one looks like it was used as a belt/pulley system to run other machines like drills, lathes and other devices in a shop, since there are no generator coils.

As a Rural Northern Nevadan, I've been waiting for years for Sarah Jane to devote some time to the iconic Jack Longstreet- "The Last of the Desert Frontiersmen".
Sarah Jane has done two videos I know of on Belmont, NV. It seems Sarah Jane has been unaware Jack and (common law wife) Fannie are buried side-by-side in well-marked graves at the Belmont, NV cemetery.
Belmont cemetery is rather large, but Jack and Fannie's graves can be found by anyone with a bit of determination.
Jack also spent time in the County Jail at Belmont. But that is a story for another time...

My son was a chef here 30+ years ago. They had plans to build a golf course then and an air strip. Guess that went away with the mine too.

I would stay there for sure and love the petting zoo. Hope it survives.

I've stayed there before on the way to Death Valley. Remember it being pretty good but slightly expensive and slightly smokey. Also the bar across the street is pretty cool; everyone who visits writes on the wall.

Went by that many times earlier last year when I lived in Tonopah to drive to 29 palms, ca on the weekends. CHP likes to prowl the California side of that highway, I used to drive about 90MPH down that highway all the way through to 66

I do have to admit you are a smart woman you know the word thrasher I'm impressed a thrasher is a farm equipment that separates the oats and makes the haystack has it been throwing out of the thrasher and the oaths going into a farm wagon I'm very impressed that you actually knew that word because I used to do that on the farm with my grandparents in the '60s it was so much fun making the haystacks I have been watching you and you are very impressive for some of the things you do know but have never done and you're not even a farm girl very very impressive now all you got to do is milk a cow castrated pig butcher a chicken and raise crops and you'll be a full-fledged farmer on that land of yours all by the way don't forget to buy the tractor took all the farm equipment with might be kind of hard with your car

I remember when Tom Wiesner bought Holy cow; now it's a pharmacy:(. He owned all the big dogs and the draft house in Vegas. Spent a couple summers partying in his guest house. Good times.
