- Canon V10 review. How bad is it? Compared to other vlogging cameras like the DJI Pocket 3, Action 4, Sony X3000, Gopro 12 etc. It has the worst specs of all, only digital stabilization which isn't very good, but can Canon colour science and usability make up for the lack of specs?

You strike a unique balance in the camera industry, being informative and entertaining. I always watch your videos, even if they cover gear I'm not usually interested in. It's a bonus if you cover something I own or want to own.
What I love the most is that he always talk about the painstaking crop and workflow things that are horrible in release that nobody talk about, theses are the most importants things when you want to work with a camera ! The shooting experience ! Damn he's the best I know for that It's a shame others are useless (most I mean) what the point of having xyz features if they are crippled with crop, resolution, bugs, downscaling bit deph, autofocus, rolling shutter and all that.... I hate thoese others that think they do good when they don't do half as what Kasey bring to the people.
+ He's spiritual and critical not a useless logical soul less body like most theses days

Longtime listener, first-time caller here. I love the V10. Got mine when it dropped in June last year and never looked back. 😆 I dig the form factor - I love that it’s shaped vertically like a phone but still shoots horizontally, as a proper video should be shot. The mics are nice, and I have no issues with image quality. I agree the menu system is a pain but you get used to it. My biggest qualms are with the battery. I wish it lasted longer and was removable, but alas. In any case, I love how tiny and inconspicuous the V10 is. I can take this just about anywhere and vlog with it. This is my little buddy! 🤣🤣
That's the worst rolling shutter and corner wobble I have ever seen in my life.
the zv-e10 mk1 was probably worse, but this camera seems to be Canon's worst release in many years lol
haven't watched too many Sony's have you? A7SIII was some of the worst corner warp crap
@@silbay I've been making videos with the A7sIII for a while and I disagree. The only time I had a problem was when I did an interview and was swaying a little. Using the Sony software though I was able fix the footage with no corner warp whatsoever.

I have this camera and there's just something about it. I also have the OP3, S5II, OA4 etc but picking this up and vlogging with it is just fun. I find myself simply capturing more moments with this in my pocket. I started my YT life on the G7X so it's like a throwback. I've uploaded 4k FX3 videos, Panny 6k opengate, and 1080p from this potato and not a single comment complaining about video quality. My opinion, if this thing wasn't blasted by every camera reviewer it might have had a chance at being a good seller to it's target market. It's just fun to use in a nostalgic kind of way. I'm glad I bought it...for $350...I wouldn't pay more for it lol.
That is the secret to it. It ain't all that for specs, but it is all that for pocketability. You also get a better workflow to post with this. No rinky dink transfer over slow lightning or USB 2.0
Out of interest, what practical benefit does this have over an iphone released in the last few years?
I also enjoy using it for some reason. I want it to be better than it is lol. Battery life is bad, no slow mo, overheats easy, nauseating stabe etc. It's hard to recommend.
@@cameraconspiracies I know this will hurt your little meat eating heart to do so but use it in 1080p. It's better in every category at the lower resolution.
@@Mr___X That's a great question and point. I want my camera separate from my phone and I can't explain why exactly. I've never liked capturing any kind of content on my phone. Maybe it has to do with it being intentional. When there's a camera on me it's there to do one thing so I use it for that one thing. I guess my brain sees my phone as a camera just in case I need one but never as a camera primarily. My iPhone 15 Pro will shoot in Pro Res Raw and has incredible stabilization but for some reason I'd rather use this piece of kit that looks like Canon forgot to release in 2014.
I managed to score one on eBay a few months ago. Compared to my Sony ZV1 image quality is not as good-it’s more like my DJI pocket 1. Stabilisation Canon has released an update so check your version is 1.2. I found using a mini tripod helps when vloging. What Canon helpfully tells you in the manual, if your screen freezes the only way to clear it is by holding down the power and menu buttons for30 seconds then wait a minute before restarting! I find I need to do this a lot!!!

You need to do hard reset a lot? That's a shitty device. Zv1f seems a device sent from heaven compared to this after you described those problems

@@Snapshotbitze first you need to know Sony idea of stabilization by now. It's all done by crop, active stab.
All sort of ibis, OSS (whatever they call it) are just mediocre in Sony world. They don't want to spend r&d money to perfect the craft.
Zv1f has no ibis and PDAF. That's basically panasonic g100. Stability? There are tons of video showing Sony stability using software based stabilization
If you want stability while walking just follow Casey route using action cam, DJI pocket 3, or phone. Don't waste time and energy testing product that clearly wasn't designed for it
@@trym2121 Ihave the ZV1 just wondered if the zvf stab was any better being lighter and not being a zoom lens. You’re only going to get good hand held stab if you upgrade to something that has IBIS. But that then means you’re looking at least spending £1.500I. I have the pocket 1 Not impressed with the 3 . Got a couple of action cams but would not use them for main camera.
Overheating seems to be a rather consistent problem with these small vlogging cameras. A fine young videographer from SoCal took his Dji Pocket 3 to Furnace Creek, Cal, for a desert shoot. It just happened to be the town where they've recorded the highest temperature in the history of terra firma - 134 degrees F. Or, about 54 degrees Celsius. When he got there at 8am it was already 109. Within 2 hours his camera completely shut down - dead, caput. He had to finish the video with his trusty iPhone, which did have a much sharper pic.

Yeah, I bought one when it was on sale on Amazon with all the small rig accessories (bar the cage) for just over £300. I'm no videographer, so the simplicity is fine for an idiot like me. I didn't want to go down the zv1 route as I'd end up using it as a stills camera - too much past history there. This thing I have no desire to shoot stills with. The pocket 3 would have been a better choice, but I was concerned as a clumsy git I'd damage that gimbal. The battery life is poor though, I'm always taking a power bank with me now, so that defeats the idea of its pocketable form factor. Auto focus is hit or miss . This could have been great but it got hammered by Canon.
For 300$ you can get an iPhone 11, it has much better stabilization, a really good 12mp sensor, can blend exposure in video to improve dynamic range, higher framerate, overall better IQ + usability and now you got a pocket computer, so you can edit/post directly from your phone - Anyway, there's just no reason to get these entry level "vlogging" camera. This is the kind of product that non tech-savy parents buy for their kids on Christmas just because its cheap, made from a well known company and it says the right thing on the box.
Such a bizarre release. It would've been a good product 12 years ago, half decent 8 years ago, and redundant 4 years ago.

Big props for even buying it. I did hope that it was sort of usable, but no stabe, for a bit more you can get a used ZV1. Stabe, ND Filter, well to tight lens for vlogging but well, you pulled it off on a longer selfy stick…. And and the mark 1 has actually cool slomo. Happy weekend and keep it up, look for the osmo battle, with this little Canon.
At least we got to see the shelving at the end.

Its weird to me how canon hasnt got the corner wobble under control yet when other brands dont seem to have this issue. Even the R5 II has it. Much improved and it only occurs in certain situations but its still there. Kinda crazy when smartphone footage looks better.

I've been ouside of internet range for a couple of days just with my A7sIII. The 120 is awesome, but I've just discovered how glorious the 240FPS is.
Warps worse than vinyl that came out of the Trax Records label in the 90's.
That camera colors are amazing, looks amazing if you dont walk at all, lock your AF and have good outside light 😂 for most situations its not usable, but if you are going to record a video in direct sunlight without moving and you know how to lock your AF thats the camera for you… hahaha

Hi from the UK. I bought this camera for £330 which came with the advanced kit (all the goodies). It's fine as long as you take it for what it is. It's on sale everywhere. I don't have a great need for a blurry background. I would rather have a removable battery. We all have different needs and expectations. Your search for the perfect camera will never end so neither will your channel hopefully.

Oh the Cinema is ours! Nice colors, but IS is kinda shaky, we are spoiled now with Dji Pocket 3 or Insta360 X4 stuff for vlogging. It's decent for simple people who vlog and want to get things done. I bet the newest Iphone will destroy it in stabilization and AF. So why bother buy it when you have such a good camera phone?

Casey did you see the video of the lithium e scooter battery in the elevator that killed the guy because it caught fire? I thought of you struggling up/down stairs with your e-scooter and maybe it's good thing you have to take the stairs. The chance is very small, but if it goes (more likely after charging) you'll have a terrible end if stuck in an enclosed space
Is it rolling shutter? Is it sensor jitters? Is it e-stabilisation? So much fun and mystery with a V10! (Almost bought one in a sale - and they are in sale almost all the time - but got a used RX0ii instead)
And the R50 too ! I hate it!

I actually like the look. It's the usabilty and lack of slow motion that kills it for me. No aperture priority mode either so it's very awkward to use if you want to shoot wide open and get the tiniest amount of Toneh.

For digital stabe on any camera I wish there was a way to select "stabilize the subject" vs. "stabilize the background". I think every system stabilizes the subject. Which looks ridiculous at a concert when the musicians bob up and down and it looks like I was matching their movement with my camera. This is a reason lens stabe rules.
personally I like the footage this camera produces when I shoot in 1080p
but I dislike that they advertised 4k, when it drains battery even when I'm still not recording yet.
Canon last good camera was the GX1mark2. The lens with leave shutter is amazing and the resolution is great considering the size of sensor and the camera.
Colors look great,way better than my Go Pro. I just can't get over the jittery background. Even if I focus on you, I can see it in my peripheral. It's really distracting. The Pocket 3 is way too fragile, I feel like that little head is just going to break 😂 also, my Go Pro overheats, fast.. especially today when the temp outside is 40*c. Like 5 min and its melting . Idk the search continues.

Why am I subscribed to this channel? What darkest part of my masochistic subconscious draws me towards those videos with abundance of armpit hair on a man halfway across the planet, a man of most questionable style choices, who rants about cameras, of which I own one, and it's an a6600, and I think it's all I will ever need, with a Samyang 12/2 and a Sigma 56/1.4 and that's it? It's tearing me apart, this channel and this face, which makes me binge a couple of his videos, then be fed up with them for some time, and then come back for more. I cannot wrap my head around this guy. And for fuck's sake man, whatever in the depths of hell drives your choice of fonts! Arrghh
Whatever the content of the video is should be in focus. If you’re vlogging in a place and talking about the place, it should be sharp. If you’re vlogging in a place and talking about some other topic the background can be soft. I get annoyed by some company tour videos where they’re shooting wide open on these cine lenses and the background is mush. Nobody cares about the bokeh, we want to see the factory, not the camera guy struggling to pull focus.
(I haven’t seen that haircut since looking at myself in a mirror in 1987. Mine has since left me. Hair gel stonks tanked.)

The screen could be smaller. Someone in a colma for the last few years had their s37 sitting in a pumpin pie on the red bricked up window looking thing awaiting a z850 to come out of nowhere. Try and wake me up, all ape cannon jittery. Ill visit al salams nightmare factory and have the s37 out of my pie.
Hey Casey. I just found out about the Sigma fp L. No IBIS, no EVF, terrible battery, probably terrible autofocus as well, also Sigma, but... It's full frame, it's tiny, and it can record 12 bit RAW internally! Would love to watch you complain about it. Maybe some loser photographer is selling one? Probably not.
I just got the Pocket 3. Any tips just shooting in normal color. The red in my face stands out more than I like
We need a phone rig setup
The best thing about it is the DR equalisation, which makes the footage bright and legible. Other than that it seems like a waste of time.
The Canon colors. The Canon rolling shutter as well.
It looks worse than something taken with a phone... At least in my opinion. Not horrible by any means, I just question it's reason to exist when the quality looks worse than what I would get with a phone that's 2 to 3 years old.
Sure the screen makes it easier to vlog but there are solutions that make it easy to use your phone's rear camera and still see yourself.
Outdoors: beautiful
Indoors: stunk
Stab: OK
No slow motion, no blurry background
Overheating considered an included feature by Canon? Conclusion: OK for vlogging outdoors, otherwise “no”.
For me, cameras are camera and video cameras are entirely different product, I always think of camera is just for still photos and their video function is just for when we don't have video camera lying around, video camera is just for video and we will never take any photo with it. When I look for video camera, they are camcorders, action cams, and cine cams, which their whole existence is about shooting video, all the traditional camera no matter what form factor they are, no matter they are compacts, SLRs, mirrorless, or anything else, are for still only or mainly for still, they're not video camera and I will never used them as such. Indeed smartphones are kind of both but phone are still just phone or to some extent just a handheld computer the same way as PDAs in the past, I only used smartphones o shoot photos or videos in emergency case only when I have no camera around or using cameras or scanners make more troubles for the use case such as when taking a photo of some document pages to send over to my friends or my colleges right away.
As for this camera, for the cost of it and if the use case is to vlogging, I'd rather buy a used HD camcorder for half the price.
It's sad that it has the quality of cheap 2015 phone camera

We need to decentralize from the hybrid camera build. Hybrids don't do anything well, they're like cheap swiss army knives. Get a dedicated video camera and a dedicated photo camera. They could probably be smaller and lighter when they don't need to do both.
The last great camcorder was the Sony AX700, then they stopped making them. The new Panasonic ones are a joke because of autofocus, and so are Canon because of ridiculous rolling shutter for the price (even on their top end XF series). I guess camcorders don't sell, which is too bad

That V10 is crap but blows the X3000 out of the water in picture quality, DR, color, etc. Of course the X3000 even in it's heyday was a joke compared to the Contour cameras and the JVC's of it's day

Dude... This industry is much better off with you in it. You make the camera industry more fun and nobody else makes really entertaining content in the industry. Its all shooting charts and spec sheet reading, which is helpful in some ways, but that is to gain info on a product. These others never make you laugh and give you info. I watch every video you make Bro, you have been part of my day for actual years. I am a die hard fan of the channel

Just got into cameras I bought the Sony ZV-1F ZV-E10 and FX30 for my channel I paired the FX30 with the Sigma 16mm prime.
I won't make anymore purchases till I have consumed more of your content.
