    Basic steps for gear install: www.billavista.com/tech/Articl...
    Its time to install a new gearset in my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Around 3 years ago, we installed 5.13 gears which have been a great ratio choice. Unfortunately, on a recent road trip the pinion gear decided to chip and shear off teeth while driving on the highway. This time, i decided to go with Revolution Gear and Axle 5.13 gears after hearing lots of positive reviews.
    Re-gear jobs are fairly complicated and meticulous, but with some good knowledge and mechanical skill its not too hard to DIY. In this video we show you how to setup the ring and pinion, check backlash, tooth contact pattern, use of setup bearings, rubicon locker removal, pinion preload and more.
    Like i mentioned, there is a major difference between Spicer ADVANTEK gears (2 Cut), and other 5 cut aftermarket gears. The major difference in install is the Backlash Specification. 5 cut aftermarket gears spec backlash around 6-10 thousandths, whereas Advantek (Stock or lower ratio spicer gears) spec around 3-6 thou.
    This difference in specs could very well be leading to lots of premature failures if not noticed.

    With a clam shell puller you need to have the race on the bearing when pulling them off. It keep the bearing from coming part. On the JL/JT I can pull the bearing off about 75% of the time and can reuse it if needed. There are times when I just have to cut it off.

      Thanks for sharing the insight that the race should be on when pulling the bearing. I had a similar issue to Ben on mine and it may have worked if I had know to have the race on there during pull. Will do that next time. 👍

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  Před rokem +2

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  Před rokem +2

      @@sc77 depends on the axle size. On a Dana 44 I’m not a huge fan of 5.38s but they will still work as long as your easy on the skinny pedal. That combo is tough though because normally you need those low of gears for bigger tires like 40s, but then you created a smaller pinion and even bigger heavier tires. Cryo treatment used to be very popular, but I’ve never had it done and seems as though it’s not too common anymore from what I hear, maybe the cost isn’t worth the gain.
