What a treat to see a video of Kissin this far back! Well, let's see, he must be 12 or 13 here. The youngest performance of his i have ever seen on CZcams was at 15 years old. Of course he always had incredible raw talent, but it is clear to see how much further he has come: mature, polished, passionate, convincing. Thank you for posting. Katheryne
I spent ten hours studying and listening to lang lang and kissin. Then I went to practice piano, and I instantly found myself at ARCT level. The positive piano vibes are real.
A very mature interpretation for such a young Kissin, most impressive. I used to have this program on one of my local station; it was call ARTS and I miss it very much.
His expressions, his looks, and even his hair style didn't change. However, the biggest deal that he was, is, and will always be a real pianist. May you always inspire us Kissin
There is nothing more inspiring for me to practice playing piano than listening/watching a young Evgeny Kissin. I guess the thought process works like this: Hearing/Watching Rubinstein/Horowitz/Arrau/Argerich/etc makes me think I still have time to get great because they are considerable older than me. But these young Kissin videos show me that he is so far beyond me and so many years younger. When I get good I'm going to thank Kissin.
Son son est pur, selon moi il jout avec beaucoup d'authentisité et sans flafla.Son interprétation est tres intelligente,c'est la meilleur que j'ai entendu, je la recommande a tous.
It is my experience as someone who has had some of the same childhood musical feelings as Kissin that his emotions were probably very real at that age. Just because 99.99% of the population needs life experience to feel those emotions doesn't mean the prodigy does not. It could be that life experience actually dulls emotions that the prodigy feels with a great intensity at the young age innately.
I don't know, I think (for this piece at least) he was even better at this age and performance than he can do now :) I really love his performance on this piece!
@awesomewelles90 Why do some people think it clever to trot out the name of some other artist as a cheap way of rubbishing the present one? Tatum was an extraordinary pianist of genius, but this in no way diminishes the greatness of the young Kissin, a child prodigy in every sense of the word. His legendary performances of the Chopin Piano Concertos at the age of 12 are among the best available.
He may have been too young for this mazurka, but despite his musical "innocence", he´s the only one who captured that the essence of this piece stands at 4:33 of this video.
I almost enjoy watching Kissin at this age more than now as an adult. So much musical maturity beyond his years. I'd still kill to see him now though....:)
(to pinkanimesmiles): it's certainly not a technical term, but with "musical innocence" I wanted to underline that in most cases a very young interpreter has not lived long enough to understand complex, deep, if not perverse feelings; therefore the "innocence" I mentioned. But sometimes instinct or genius solve the problem (see 4:33)
@tigertolyy I agree with the looks part (he's so cute here!), but please check out his rendition of La Campanella before saying the 2nd part of the sentence... :
@stagesix6 I fully agree. America could be more productive. Folks seem to love labels & awards/accolades @ the expense of pure artistry. It is an extremely "visual" society, to say the least!
Now this is playing with emotion. So many musicians claim to play with emotion, but you can't really hear it that much, you don't feel it. This makes me feel what he feels.
All I can tell you, is that kissin has a GREAT singing tone. If you can't decipher that, you have no ear. Interpretation is relative either way. Good luck
@nmbanana i don't really see why lang lang has to be brought up... i also think that just because one person doesn't feel what a musician is expressing, it doesn't mean that there's no expression. i might not like one musician's interpretation, but it doesn't mean i think they're crap...
agree with btehadtrip and sowie. dont get all defensive just cuz he is a good kid and pianist. it is a matter of fact that some one that young, who may be able to "imitate" emotions, and may to a certain extent feel certain emotions, is never completely able to feel the same as someone who has had the experience of life teach them.
This is (in my opinion) one of the moments in Kissin's life that he actually played his best, at least on a purely music level. The chopin concerti are phenominal. Anyone else notice this annoying habit of delaying the bass in the left hand? I recently saw him play Brahms 1st (which was quite good), but I noticed it then too. That's my only real complaint.
What incredible interpretation? The man has wonderful technique, and very little else. Almost everything is played too brilliantly and/or loud, whether or not the work calls for it.
There is nothing more inspiring for me to practice piano than watching a young Evgeny Kissin. Seriously.
seriously i just keep watching this over and over and over

This is superb for me, for any age. Very alive and flowing. A pleasure to listen too.
unbelievable footage... thanks...

I become so obsessed by Kissin...can't have enough of his....
he seems almost floating behind the piano...just amazing.
His expressions, his looks, and even his hair style didn't change. However, the biggest deal that he was, is, and will always be a real pianist. May you always inspire us Kissin
Like the way this guy interpretively explains the tonal transitions.

11 years later... a cellist is inspired to learn to play a Chopin Mazurka on the piano at home after watching Kissin..
What a sweet boy, precious and talented...
it has something to do with his previous life. He was born already pianist I think. Genius. Bravo Zhenya !
0:34 gosh, even the sneeze sounds good in the background
bravo...bravo...milion times bravo!!!
I agree . He is miracle
and great👌👌
For some reason watching his hands is more interesting than watching other pianists hands. He seems to have such an elegant stride over them.
Kissin was a genius from day one. One of rarely gifted players.
Son son est pur, selon moi il jout avec beaucoup d'authentisité et sans flafla.Son interprétation est tres intelligente,c'est la meilleur que j'ai entendu, je la recommande a tous.
oh god he was so young
very nice
Fantastic!
He was 15 years old at this recital?
Awesome
easily the best interpretation I have EVER HEARD!!!!
One way to become famous without competitions is: Being as Kissin :P
i love his style ~~~
GREAT !!!!!!
Acho que nunca vi alguem tocar com tanta vontade. Acho que o êxtase musical que ele transmite diz por sua voz!
kissin @ 15yrs. old...wow...bravo!
pure feelings !!
i like it !!
@Mike1614b "Robotic and indulgent"? Aren't those two terms contradictory?
He plays extraordinarily well since he's a kid.
How I envy him...
The best in the World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1:01 gets me everyimte! chills!!
How old is he here?
Amazing....
I have no words to say..
Hermosa pieza musical, ejecutada con sentimiento y dulzura.100 para ti Evgeny Kissin.
omgggggggggggggg he is sooooooo adorable
beautiful
he was 15 O.o!
my God i just turned 15 and I will get a nosebleed if i try to play that piece.
mmm...I didn't know that he was at this age so soulful and mature... :) very, very mature :) how he feels it ... :) oh ... ;)
信じられないくらいあまりにも美しい❗やっぱりキーシンは、ピアノを弾くために生まれて来たのだと確信しました。
The best is from 4.34 min-... look! and listen :)...mmm...

Is there any more of these "young" Evgeny Kissin, lovin´ it
probably the best pianist of our times
I don't know, I think (for this piece at least) he was even better at this age and performance than he can do now :)
I really love his performance on this piece!
@nmbanana come on look at his career.. and performances.. He is one of greatest pianists of our time. and you?? who are you??
Had me from the very first note
i love you very much evgeny
Goodness! What a splendid interpretation. And Kissin was how old here, 14 or 15?
@awesomewelles90

c'est vraiment beau!
God whispered to him how to play that part... Not even Horowitz or Lipatti play that part so deeply.
He may have been too young for this mazurka, but despite his musical "innocence", he´s the only one who captured that the essence of this piece stands at 4:33 of this video.
Unfair to compair this with Lipatti - but it's a great performance.
it looks as if he releases the first note by opening his eyes.
damn how can he feel and portray those emotions at that age
biiiiiiiig fan !
totally agree!
I almost enjoy watching Kissin at this age more than now as an adult. So much musical maturity beyond his years.
I'd still kill to see him now though....:)
he was and still is a genius
SO a young boyy!
Stupendo e unico!!
One of my classmate who plays the piano looks like Kiisin in young age, maybe he once will be known as perfect pianist, like Evgeny Kissin...
How brief the jump from childhood ot early adulthood in the artist.
@ProLifeMontanaLass
It says 1986 at the beginning of the clip, which would make him 15.
1:01 - 1:11 favourite part

WOW
Deslumbrante y sutil.
@stagesix6 I fully agree. America could be more productive. Folks seem to love labels & awards/accolades @ the expense of pure artistry. It is an extremely "visual" society, to say the least!
wow
but it says 1986 at the beginning; he was born oct. 1971...
i was thinking the same

didn't he begin on the piano at 2 years old?

do u know what year this was in ?
Awesome Performance when Puberty hits hard.

Because he hadn't as much concerns as he has as an adult -- maybe.
sure, I played it when I was 2
In your profile you say you are 21...
His adult performance:
czcams.com/video/4IfVA7seCVo/video.html
how old was he here?? O.o
@TrollApproaches lmao me too
Гениальный ребенок...Какие звуки...куда все делось? Очень жаль, когда музыка становится средством зарабатывания денег , исчезает любовь к ней.
I don't think Sviatoslav Richter ever played this mazurka...
What are you saying? Kissin is one of the most fascinating artists today... You're a fool.
wow..that;s amazing check out the song i composed for him..in a better place...
whos he?
@arrowpierced vives en marte o jupiter e.e
Um...I think Aurorin was aware of that.
you should change your handle to callous
why do I have one thumb down? does it make any sense...?
@F4sT
you can tell by the crap that most people call music that lang lang produces
What incredible interpretation? The man has wonderful technique, and very little else. Almost everything is played too brilliantly and/or loud, whether or not the work calls for it.
he looks a little freaked at the beginning. poor thing
