Okay, so in hindsight, and from reading the comments, it seems that there were 3 possible reasons for Jacob getting gravely injured:
1) Jacob got torn apart by a devolved Ferris
2) Jacob got torn apart by the group of Biophages
3) Jacob was wounded and burned by the self destruct explosion
I like the thought of Ferris somehow being able to devolve again, but in hindsight, option 3 actually makes the most sense. What do you guys think?
Yeah, 3 makes most sense tbf
I'm also more inclined to 3
I’m going with 2 and a mixture of 3
ferris was a dropped plot point, lets not kid ourselves. they didnt know how to write themselves out of the corner theyd put themselves in, so went with the cliche, 'youre playing your last moments as your dying from what mahler did as she found your body'
I agree with many that three makes the most sense as if option 1 or 2 happened, their probably wouldn't have been ANYTHING left of Jacob to keep alive.
I honestly feel bad for Jacob. That’s the most gruesome end to a character I’ve ever seen. Believing a lie all the way to the end in that dying state was almost chilling.
Almost chilling? It was extremely chilling
I agree I felt sad for him
@@steveharrington5378 I will admit that final shot where you see Jacob is literally not even half of himself does send shivers.
the actor is expensive so they killed him off
I think he died peacefully believing that he escaped with his ship
I dont think that Ferris was the one that left Jacob on that state since
1) he is already dead
2) That mutation of Ferris does no longer exist
For me it was either the gigant horde of biophages that Dani saw coming at him (I also really doubt this is the reason Maulher found him in that state, Jacob has killed way many enemies during the game and Biophages dont just tear you apart and leave you barely breathing, they straight up kill you.
For me Jacob got those wounds because of the explosions and falling rocks, the whole part was going down after all so it makes sense he was crushed.
THANK YOU omg! Like, he CLEARLY has burns on the side of his face with no skin. His freakin EAR is milted for crying out loud. And again. Since when do Biophanges leave you half-alive after ripping you to pieces? They only leave after you are dead. Just one of them will stomp your head in. A horde of them ain't leaving you alive in any shape or form. And Farris was a hallucination
And injuries could have caused the hallucinations
Exactly
I like how there are a lot of depictions of "two face", symbolised by Jacob's colleague Max dying with half his face burned off. Jacob's face also is half burned off at the end. The boss monsters also often have two heads.
A nice little touch that underscores the theme of the game, the duality of good and evil and many of the characters inner conflict with guilt.
Or maybe I'm reading into it too much. 😅
No I think you're definitely on to something there. It recurs enough for it to be a theme throughout I'd say. 👍
I like your thinking but I think you're also reading into it too much. I don't think they thought it through that far but who knows...
Great catch! That was the intent, to layer in that duality wherever possible
It sucks hard to absolutely demolish all those monster's and beat the Alpha multiple times just to be destroyed in a cutscene off screen and the tile of "sole survivor" go to a side characters who sleeped through half a story and didn't nothing to survive (got totally carried by Jacob)
Disappointing.
Well said
To be fair, that's exactly how battle royales play out, so at least its lore accurate
Ah yes the classic "it was all a dream" ending. That's exactly what this game needed after all the bad press.
jacob isnt issac clarke
Think of it as silent hill, it's actually a masterpiece
@@SL1CK_K7LLA No. It's an insult to compare this piece of shite game to any Silent Hill games, especially the good ones like the first four. There is NOTHING in the DLC that advanced the story in any way shape of form. Why did we need to see what Jacob was hallucinating? None of it means anything since he dies anyway. The Callisto Protocol was a soulless experience as a whole. Dead Space Remake is better, no questions.
@@DarkAttackYT fucking hell it’s a horror game not all of them should be a happy ending I like Jacob as a character am I gutted he’s dead yes will it make me not want a Callisto 2? Nope I think this can be a brilliant universe especially if each game is connected in little ways but not directly
@@DarkAttackYT it wasn't a comparison I meant inspiration for this dlc
Ok but if ferris was defeated by Jacob at the end of the game is it possible he started hallucinating and seeing him when it might’ve been the horde of biophages that tore him apart?
Maybe
My guess is that horde is what ripped jacob apart maybe an explosion or something stunned him long enough for them to get to him and thats what happened to him
If that’s the case, then sucks that Jacob went through all that only to get ripped apart by some random biophages 🥴
It was the explosion that blew him apart imo
@@Rekseri the explosion after Dani left?
Though I'm okay with protagonists dying, I really wish they explored more of Jacob's character and what he'd be like after going home and experiencing PTSD. I liked the idea they did with Dead Space with how Isaac survived but always ended up alone, even in the second game when he escapes with another person he ends up alone at the beginning of the third game.
The fact he was still wanting to save Dr Mahlen, even as he sat broken and burned, showed his redemption was true.
Jacob was at the end of his character ark, really, having him die a hero is a fitting end.
@@NoFlyZone31 That's exactly why I didn't want to see him go. I know a part of it is because I really like Jacob's character, but the other part of it is definitely remembering what we could've had in Dead Space 3 with Isaac's PTSD instead of the Dead Space 3 we got. It just feels like a mistake to kill him off so early.
jacob didnt die btw from what i see doc mahlen used to work on bio machines so she can still save him also at the ending of the game before dlc u can see some mutants have machines in them same with some pictures of mutant test subjects
@@khatabalbudakash4665 I watched this quite a bit ago, but from what I recall Doc Mahlen and Jacob were both in the base while it was exploding. Even if Jacob has a chance with Mahlen after he was absolutely brutalized, the blast will kill both of them or at least wound Doc Mahlen and leave her with no supplies to remotely save Jacob.
What a depressing ending for Jacob, I still hope we get more from this universe but I honestly doubt it.
they’re planning on continuing Dani’s story

So they just decided to kill the game themselves. Jacob was one of the few good things about the game.
Cause of all the hate the game got. People hated this game cause it was cool for the most part.
It’s a lot more complicated than that, I imagine. It’s probably for the best that they do something a bit new afterwards, they do have a kinda interesting world right now.
Well, keep in mind that the person behind Jacob is probably very very expensive as hes a notable actor which most likely played a part in killing him off.
If this game does get a sequel, I doubt we'll see Dani at all because, like Jacob, her likeness was used for the game.
@@KoroushRPI heard the game was aggerssively mid and actively shit.
Do you blame people?
@@Subject_Keteryou “heard” the game was shit? From who…? And a couple loud angry people on Twitter don’t count😂
Y'know, while I understand how "it was a dream" endings feel kinda cheap, the fact that Jacob spent his final moments as a human antenna in a desperate gamble to expose the UJC - a gamble that both the characters and us, the viewers, aren't sure will work - was chilling and bleak in a way that the best horror stories are. And at the risk of reading too much into it, it's fitting in a way that the core implants, devices meant to track the prisoners and keep them in line, ended up potentially becoming the instruments of their liberation. Never played this game but I'm invested in the lore now. Great video.
Thought I’d publish this early. As I’m off on holiday tomorrow! Enjoy! ❤
Much appreciated
Ayy, appreciate it my man! Be sure to take care of yourself and enjoy your Holiday!
The Callisto Protocol huge potential but the gameplay big let down hopefully the sequel will be better or never happen
U rock
Have a good one man. Great videos 👍
I think Ferris is dead dead the Ferris we see at the end was a hallucination. Jacob never survived the ending of the base game and was killed by that horde of biophages
This is exactly what happened
Doubt it was the biophages since Jacob survived way stronger hordes, imo it was the self-destruct explosions that blew him apart
@@RekseriHe does have burn marks on the side of his body, so makes sense he died by the explosions
@@Rekserijust cuz he did survive stronger hordes doesn't instantly mean he wouldn't have died at the end of the base game
@@112523however biophages in the game never left a body like Jacob was, he has burn marks too, likely from the place coming apart than the horde
They may have axed Jacob due to the negative press, but I still liked the DLC and the ending. Personally, I prefer endings that are on the shocking and disturbing side. Sometimes, the protagonist doesn’t prevail. Seeing him strung up like Robocop hit a nerve and it hit hard; his redemption was complete.
Nobody cared about his redemption because Jacob is a terrible character. No one cried when he died. His whole dream didn't even do anything to advance the story. it was all for nothing. This DLC was a cash grab.
@@DarkAttackYT Someone else’s opinion is equally valid as yours, but I appreciate your disdain nonetheless.
@@AndJusticeForMe It's okay that you loved the game. There is nothing wrong with that. But the risk that they took wasn't earned due to how underdeveloped Jacob was. That's my issue with the DLC.
@@AndJusticeForMe There's a difference between an opinion and an objective fact. There's an objective fact that this game lacked anything in the character development department. It's characters were as one-note and stale as the combat.Another objective fact is that they criminally underused the setting they had. The opinion that follows correctly from these objective facts is that Jacob is a terrible character and the prison was an interesting location that they did shit-all to promote. Similar games with corridor halls do things to make those corridors feel not like corridors - dead space is a great example of this concept. Callisto Protocol did NOTHING to enhance the prison; nothing to make it feel lived in, nothing to make the prison a character in its own story.
@@KharaChmiel Thank you for sharing. I disagree with your “objective facts”. Happy gaming!
I don’t mind the avenue of killing Jacob off, I just think they could’ve done it slightly better. Like, he actually is still alive and kicking and there really is a shuttle, but he gets the option to stay behind and help Mahler expose the truth instead of escaping? Something along those lines. I don’t know why but the whole “it’s all a dream” kind of took away from the ending a bit.
Technically that's kinda how the main game ends with him letting Dani escape and him staying behind, the dlc really did nothing to further the story imo😭
Ferris is absolutely mutated and dead. I think he was done by explosion and falling debris as you can see the burn on his wound face and body.
IMO the biggest let down of the game was the biophage and its reveal on where it came from, they could have made its origin vague or unkown until it gets sequals, not to mention the wasted potential of the secret society
I hear you on that, but in its defense I think that explaining what the group is makes the world it’s in more realistic. It wasn’t some freak accident, which is nice, because we’ve seen those a lot. Even though it was an outbreak, it was orchestrated which is rare. The reason for why it was orchestrated tho, to find the sole survivor, is intriguing because it makes you wonder why they need one? Do they just wanna rope Dani into kallipolis? What could a secret evil cult with plans to find the next step in human evolution do with that next step? It also kinda opens up the world a bit more because now we now how far reaching this cult is. So they could go anywhere with this story if they wanted. Start a new outbreak? Collect more sole survivors? Send em all out into space to some distant planet that had ancient relatives of that same biophage already dormant on the planet? (Little dead space 3 action) or it could focus around Dani’s outer way or whatever the group was called, and what they do with they info that Dani gets to them( if she even gets it to them) you know?
If it gets a sequel it would be interesting to see who the protagonist would be. I like the idea that even protagonists can die.
The most popular opinion that Dani'll be protagonist
It'll probably be Dani in the next game
Protagonists dying in stories is not a new concept. They just die when the story is over...like this, so it's moot.
@@tourbean790”popular” opinion? Nah bring Jacob back
Wouldn’t mind seeing Dani. After all, she got away and the Crown will spare no expense to hunt her down.
God i love this game. I was so immersed. A sequel would be cool even if we never see one. I like the idea of Dani having to survive in europa in order to get the information out, while also running from the UJC and Warden Cole’s cult. Could give her a psychological trauma feature because of her link to Jacob while he’s dying, fighting hallucinations and regular threats at the same time
Why is no one talking about how Dani must be feeling getting this final transmission? JACOB SAVED HER!!! They say that its very vivid when the two linked so she is experiencing EVERYTHING!!!!
Almost like they were setting up for the sequel! ;)
Its just so wild to do a fakeout ending for the main game where you believed he died only to survive only for the dlc to be another fakeout where you thought he lived but nah you were right the first time he died😂
Yeah, pulling a double fake-out like that is crazy. lol
Jacob killed ferris. There's no way ferris is responsible for Jacob's condition. Biophage or self destruct sequence are the only viable options
The Biophage would’ve absolutely ripped Jacob apart. The Burn marks are what you would see with a survivor of an explosion, like a self destruct.
One thing Mahler may had been truthful about, its his mind making everything to protect itself. Maybe some subconscious parts of his brain still react somewhat while being sedate/life support: The constant phrase of 'We gotta keep fighting', may be his subconscious not wanting to die, the hallucinations/messages wrotten in blood could be his guilty about everything, and the bio-bot saying 'No escape' is his memories of Ferries constantly repeating that phrase.
Lastly, the whole cargo ship is his brain hugging to the slim hope of surviving this hell.
Just for eventually die off at Mahler's table.
My question is: To who and where Mahler send the info?, did she truly uploaded to the 'internet', or did she send it to Duncan's cult/iluminati type of thing. I mean, come on, the lady is capable of doing horrible things,I doubt she would care to lie to someone at their death bed.
Jacob and Dani had their cores linked. She was uploading it to Dani's core because she escaped.
The whole DLC is basically a symbolism to get those data across Dani since Jacob's core got linked to her. Mahler uploaded the data, Jacob did his best to send it in any way his dying brain could do, and it did get across since you "left" with Jacob's original ship, now containing valuable data instead of a virus thus giving him redemption to what he did.
You're exactly right about the subconscious elements. Also Mahler is uploading the info to Dani to give her the 'full' story of what happened
Does anyone find it strange that Mahler managed to get to the wardens tower and bring Jacob back without dying to either the explosions, rubble, or biophages? I haven’t seen anyone talk about this
That’s exactly why I was more inclined to say that he got mauled by Ferris.
@@GamingHarryYT I guess it’s not confirmed and I think that’s on purpose. However it still begs the questions, how would she have got to the wardens tour untouched, avoiding biophages? If ferris was alive, would he ignore her? Attack her? I have so many questions. I’m super interested in this world, and I hope to see more
It is the power of the script haha
Plot amor
@@whitespace4419well, probably Feller never mutated and barehanded teared Jacobs apart. Warden probably left the place as it was overunned by infecteds and activated the self destruction system.
Thats the only logical explanation i can think of, because a horde of byophages came out of nowhere whe Dani leaves?.
I loved the game as a whole and the ending was really cool IMO, he was in a messed up state (as we see by the end) his mind was broken and damaged (brain damage as we see from the end his head) as well as trauma from the story we saw, the info being uploaded to him and he was acting like a router for Dani to get the info and even more proof of everything. It was a sad but great ending imo.
Great video. One correction is that Jacob is dying at the end of the base game. Ferris never returns, that was just a hallucination.
Yep, not sure how he failed to realize this
@@yournextdoorgamerwithgames2945 Because if that's true, then the whole dlc was a waste of resources, time, and money, because it means nothing. Just the synaptic arcs in a dying man's brain. no universe or story progression to speak of.
But maybe he doesn’t die, i mean the doctor had him and she was into all kind of shit, maybe be she injects him and he is patient alpha, and he regenerates

Damn, what a bummer. I really liked Jacob as a character.
So many unanswered questions. What happened to mutated Ferris? Could Jacob be partially restored as a biobot? Could they transfer Jacob’s likeness into a robot? Callisto Protocol’s story can’t be done man. Not like this 😢
I literally just watched your breakdown of the main game this morning! Thought I'd have to wait a while for the conclusion
The DLC seems like a poor way of nostalgiabaiting Dead Space fans. The hallucinations and weird messages you see are basically the "Nicole is dead" twist from DS1. Except they jammed it all into a roughly 2 hour DLC. They either panicked when they saw the bad reception the game was getting, or they were greedy and hid this ending behind a paywall the entire time.
Great work, I love seeing your videos and I can't wait to see more😊
Thank you my friend ❤️ loved your post for a year now can’t stop watching
Extremely well done. I had already played through both the main game and DLC expansion. However, watching this still added to the story elements I didn't know were even there.
Good video man! Really enjoyed this one and the one on the base game.
I had a very good time with Callisto Protocol. Will certainly be picking up the sequel, if they decide to make one :)
I think it's interesting how this short DLC has a lot more pubching power in the writing department compared to the original. Maybe it was because they had the chance to walk away from all the Dead Space baggage hooked to the marketing.
Sure, it's not original to see a character realize it was all a dream. But here it looks like they were leaning a lot harder and doing better on horror instead of jumpscares.
I find your videos on this and the full game much more enjoyable than the games. A significantly more palpable way to ingest the story, for sure. Thanks
Despite all of the hate, I absolutely enjoyed playing this game. I hope there's a sequel and a much beefier combat system.
I so agree, all I’ve seen is people hating on it because others do and no in depth reason they just say “combat” like what about it ☠️
It looks like they're really setting up for Dani to be the next protagonist- even going so far as to make her the chosen one in another name- which I find rather disappointing. She was very, uh, insufferable during the initial game. When she wasn't a giant hypocrite, she was a useless damsel-in-distress having to get carried around. There was virtually nothing interesting or redeemable about her. Even her tragic backstory was weak compared to some others we've seen.
I feel like killing off Jacob was a mistake. A shocking ending is a shocking ending and all, but now they cut off the actually interesting character for someone who they obviously think is really cool, but who is likely going to be equally insufferable and useless in the next game.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I wholeheartedly agree with you. She was so annoying.
Perhaps they’ll do her character justice, make her actually likable… well, they’ll have to.
@@NoFlyZone31 nope, she is the reason Jacob's ship crashed, poor max died, then Jacob died saving her. I want her to die like that female doctor and finish her, never want to play as her
Counterpoint - her VA is much cheaper than Jacob's, and strong female protagonist is how they might try and distance themselves from Dead Space and score some points with Twitter crowd.
I’m not buying the second as a result she’s basically a chosen one which means she can’t die or suffer any real hardship Jacob just delivered sketch supplies he isn’t a freaking biologist I have a moral compass and I would have just closed the box and been like I’m a fking freighter captain who the hell would believe me? I found a purple vial with a weird thing in it can you arrest my unknown employer?
Great video Harry ❤ 👏 I'm glad they really listened to feedback from fans wanting to know more about Kallipolis and Coles involvement, Im not sure if it was always their intention to add the logs to the DLC, but it is cool nonetheless 😁
I very much liked this game.
I like the one comment Doc made in the biobot factory about it being one of her sins yet ironically could be their salvation. Bit of foreshadowing that it's him who's stuck on the rack as a torso.
Diet Dead Space was pretty neat, never knew it got a DLC
14:18
I would have thought that Jason lost to the hoard and Maller's message and the Alpha popping up were both hallucinations. I doesn't make sense that the Alpha could "devolve" and even gain its CO uniform back.
What if she injects jacob with the parasite or some form of it and it helps him regenerate
Thanks for the explanation and lore.

Would love for you to cover the bioshock series
Jacob is gone? That sucks he was one of the only parts I really liked. Didn't care much for the whole Marker Cult v2 sure the whole desire for human evolution thing was somewhat interesting but it falls rather flat. The combat was alright at best and agonizing at worst. With a clunky close quarter combat system and a abundance of annoying enemies the game ended up feeling like a hellish cross of doom and darksouls with you having to adapt to the enemies flow not to mention how punished you are if you get garaged up on and circled; Combined with the broken auto saves sending back several combat encounters (Not to mention drops being random leading you to being worse off than the pervious go) it just became a slog.
I really didn't like Dani either and I don't think I could play a game with her as a protag. While I enjoyed my first go around I don't think I could go through it multiple times.

Tbh the fact they killed Jacob is shitting like they could've done something intresting but nope dead
Yo the baton broke because it was used for what it was designed to be used for.
Amazing
To be fair he had beaten how many thousands of people to death with it kinda makes sense that eventually even an advanced space baton would break eventually
This is what happens when The worldbuilding and The story arc are better than the execution. But there's another chance in a possible sequel. The Story is too good to leave it unfinished
This has to be my new favorite gaming story channel. Would love to see you do some old games like mass effect (trilogy) and dead space. You tell the stories so good, and include great gameplay/footage.
Dude great video!
So to the people who write it off as its just a dream, really dont understand the ending.
Jacob fighting in his feverish state is his personification of his body fighting to stay alive.the fact that you get a new weapon that is much more direct imo is the fight switching gears from being a survival to a transmission of information.you also face a new type of enemy at the same point which would be the bodys new fight due to its current state.
The doctor in his dream would likely be his subconscious keeping him in the fight.
The "dream" is our brains fighting its last stand for a bit,not just a cop out like many which leads to no where, because in theroy him keeping the fight going in his dream, gave the doctor enough time to send the info. Its a good way to show a interal battle, and we see it often even in big titles like shepards dreams in me3.
Damn the success of the dead space remake really did a number on their optimism for the series
Shoulda been making this game like right after dead space was cancelled
The end of the dlc had me crying
Kallipolis when translated from greek means beautiful city from Kallos (beauty) and Polis (city) but here is the kicker in Plato's works there is there is one specific "dialogue" between Plato and Socrates if I recall called Republic which In the dialogue, Socrates discusses the meaning of justice and whether the just man is happier than the unjust man with various Athenians and foreigners. He considers the natures of existing regimes and then proposes a series of hypothetical cities in comparison, culminating in Kallipolis (Καλλίπολις), a utopian city-state ruled by a class of philosopher-kings. They also discuss ageing, love, theory of forms, the immortality of the soul, and the role of the philosopher and of poetry in society. The dialogue's set give or take during the time of the Peloponnesian War.
I'm almost positive jacob dies in the explosion, the ferris jump-scare is already part of the dream. If you think about it ferris has devolved even more than the face we see, and he's dead so no reason that he would be alive for that jumpscare.
also jacob's body has some burns around the edges to support it being the explosion that takes him out
As another note TCP doesn't actually take place in the PUBG universe, it was planned to be initially but SDS made it clear they were not connected

I enjoyed this game so much I’m on my second play through on maximum-security with the new game plus.
I actually think that it was either the horde tearing Jacob apart or the explosion. I am personally leaning more to the horde because if it was exploded how did Mahler find Jacobs body? Yet alone barely even a live. But I ques both can be true.
Most likely the explosion the horde would have eaten him whole and when we see his body he has burn marks on the right side of his body

The story is incomplete without the references to PUBG. It's as if they scrubbed all the story aspects but not any of the lore. I wonder if this was done in the last few months of development, since a lot of the story loses its deeper meaning otherwise.
@@VeryWellSirSome They removed it being in the same universe around 2 months prior to launch. It was the publisher that wanted the game set in the PUBG universe to further promote their crappy game. And while Callisto is mid. It's worth at least 10€ if you can get it for that price. Graphics, gore and voice acting is great. It doesn't come close to Dead Space. But they wanted something different and delivered it. Even tho it wasn't as great.
@@StabVariation I do agree that it's worth 10, sadly i was a day 1 buyer who paid full price, i completed the game twice and it's not awful, but not good either. As you put it, it's mid. 30-40 bucks would have been a more reasonable price, especially considering it's lenght.
Really disappointed that they just killed off Jacob like that. Probably just as a way to kill off the IP. Was hoping he survived in this DLC since it would be cool if it was revealed that Jacob was also an Alpha as well (explains why he's able to survive through everything.) Maybe if there's ever a sequel, there's a slim chance they'll bring him back.
Na he dead
This game is awesome, man. I would love to see a sequel.
11:29 I love the subtextual grumpiness here, "After sinking *thousands* of credits in his shock baton..."
I don't know how but they have to keep Jacob in the game still he's the isacs of calisto
I'm a huge deadspace fan, and this game was excellent. I hope they have more, and I'm very sad it didn't perform insanely well. I sure hope we can get a sequel.
Excellent? Ugh
Yeah... no.
Don't tell me you thought Callisto Protocol was better than Dead Space Remake... if that's the case, then you're not a Dead Space fan.
Hm, i disagree a bit with the conclusion that it was Ferris who ripped Jacob apart. Because we absolutely killed him at the end of the main game. What makes more sense is that Jacob was ripped apart by that gigantic horde that came for him as the last shuttle took off. As soon as we see Mahler talking to him, saying theres another way out, he is actually already in Mahlers lab and degenerated Ferris is also a terrible PTSD memory spooking him at that point. Because it makes zero sense that Ferris would be back in that form.
Can you please cover the Fallout series, the main stories and the DLCs. Thank you and please keep up the amazing content.
Man I really like this it really is a better sequel (kind of) to dead space also may I suggest going over the bioshock games
This was a great explaining video and I could tell you put a lot of research into it. Personally I'd love a Callisto Protocol 2 and it would make sense for you to be playing as Dani as she is still alive and it would lead to exploring her backstory more. Jacob was a great character for this game though and exploring his characters mental health and him hallucinating things was very interesting because in reality he was in a very bad state and he obviously could have sustained brain damage as well as having all his arms and legs ripped off. I thought The Callisto Protocol was both intriguing and very dark subject matter which is exactly what I like to see in a sci-fi horror video game. Great work mate
Omg that ending hurt I'm gonna cry
Awesome.. thank you
