I did my Timing Chain Kit swap out, and I didn't even need it. However, I am glad I did. It took me 2 and a half days to do in my driveway. I took my vehicle out for 4 trips going 98 miles each, and she runs as she should! Thank you for the video. Not too many out there for a 2012 Buick LaCrosse 3.6L VVT Premium Package, but this engine is the same. Follow this guide, and you shouldn't go wrong. Thanks again Nick. Great video! PS: Always remember to change your oil at the 3,000-mile mark or very soon after. Don't wait for your cars reset to remind you what percentage your oil is at. Because you'll soon regret it.

You just added years of life to your engine. Even though the chains may look good, over time and the many heat cycles the metal weakens, also the plastic guides will eventually break causing another timing issue.
Congrats of completion of the job and THANKS for the compliment. I try my best to explain clearly so my audience can learn, do, and understand the job.

Sorry for the late post. Your welcome. I wanted to add the parts I bought/replaced on my 2012 Buick LaCrosse 3.6L VVT FWD at the time of my repair:
    1. Cloyes 9-0753S Timing Kit
    2. ACDelco 251-749 GM Original Equipment Water Pump with Bolts
    3. ACDelco 41-109 Professional Iridium Spark Plug x6
    4. Fel-Pro VS 50808 R Valve Cover Gasket Set
    5. Fel-Pro TCS 46108 Timing Cover Set
    6. Prestone 50/50 Dexcool Antifreeze
    7. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Dexos 5W-30 Motor Oil 6 Quarts
    8. Gasket Sealer & Timing Cover Sealer
    9. Mobil 1 M1-212 / M1-212A Extended Performance Oil Filter
    10. ACDelco A3128C Professional Air Filter [$5 Rebate available]
On the day you are going to do the actual Timing Chains [x3], let them soak in the extra [1/2 quart] Motor Oil you bought/have as a pre-lube for about 30 minutes or so. I did a Tune-Up while I was at it. Hence the new Spark Plugs, Motor Oil, Air Filter. These are the parts "I" used. Feel free to use different oil, plugs, filter, gaskets.
If you follow this video "exactly" [I did] you cannot go wrong! Very well explained, detailed and informative. I found it to be extremely helpful!!!
You will be happy with the results. So leave him a like after you do your car, and let him know how you made out.
Thanks again SalemTaxi. And I didn't mean to make such a long post :)

I've researched and watched other videos and this is by far the best one I have seen on replacing these chain sets. Thank you for this. I have two questions. This going to be my second one. The first one I did I used cloyes, do you see a problem with that or should I just stick with oem (gm, acd)? Second, do you always change the guides? GM service bulletin says they only need to be changed if they are worn down to the base material.

Oh and I change the guides the one on the oil pump i pop off and change that one with out the mount. Unless your changing the oil pump. If the car is throwing codes and you can hear the chan on startup. I chang the pump. If it just getting up in mills and you wont to keep it from going out then its up to you. But the system works on oil pressure most of the time it is the pump getting week that is the problem

I have a serious question for you. If I use a Cam Holding Tool and keep the crankshaft at the 8 o'clock position, do I 'still' have to rotate it again to do the right side position? I saw the Melling version of Timing Chain replacement, and dude says that as long as the engine is locked via the Cam Holding Tool, the replacement can still be done, and a lot faster. I'm confused. Please reply if possible. I need to know A.S.A.P. as I am doing my timing chains this weekend coming up. Thank you in advance! Great video, BTW. very informative.

What is the difference from and to... Melling timing chain vs Cloyes timing chain or GM Timing chain. Do I have to buy the whole set or just the guide, chain, sprocket, etc. I'm not a fan of chevy but just still a beginner mechanic for DIY . Any advice. Thanks

This looks like someone who owned it didn't invest in using the correct weight oil, didn't change oil at intervals or didn't use synthetic oil. I like the ones who say aww that oil is too thin, you need to use 10w30, 10w40 etc instead of the 5w30 or what is recommended.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate these types of videos. They're a great help but sometimes when people do things for a while they develop bad habits going through things a little quicker than they should and they miss tiny details that they forget are important to the novice or amateur garage mechanic.

Considering I'm working and filming at the same time. And provided the information need to complete the job..if you can do better, go for it make a video, explained your work, and show me how I should make a better video just for you. But I ask this question do u even know how to work on cars, if u did u would not need me to point to parts that I have called by name. This job is not for the amateur, and if u did not understand what I was explaining then maybe you should not try this job by yourself. It takes time, and some mental knowledge and experience to do this without messing up your motor.
      Hope this helps. Good luck.

People just don't realise you must change your oil and use the correct oil. People use non synthetic oil to save $ or drive it 10K miles plus on same oil as this is the result. The whole VVT system is stupid anyway . they should of left the old school timing set the way it was for years and years

That engine needed to come out and a clean one go in, you cannot clean it by wishing it clean and dropping shit down through the block, its spent, it needs to be totally stripped heads off and pressure cleaned, feather dusting is just going to make problems, reason I don't use mechanics.

A big problem with this engine is the restrictive PCV system. Drill out those ports on the valve cover and it will get a lot better. The main issue is the little nipple on the right bank towards the back. If you drill this out you will allow the motor to breath much better!
