I love the paint job on the outside. That gold paint you added at the end really enhanced the piece. I’ve seen others use similar paints, but they used paint that was thinner and they used a straw to blend the colours. The patterns by using the straw were very cool.

Thanks so much 🙂 the straw technique sounds like a good idea i may try it out on a future project.🙂

This turned out beautiful and I love your idea of enhancing the tearout, instead of trying to hide it!
If I may offer a suggestion to avoid tearout in the future, try only cutting in the direction with supported wood grain, in this case it would mean cutting from the bottom of the bowl toward the rim and avoiding going from the rim to bottom. It's kinda hard to explain without visuals but think of it like petting a cat or dog, the "better" way is from head to tail, whereas petting from tail to head might result in excess "tearout". I really hope this makes sense!
Although his self advertising gets on my nerves, the *Turn a wood Bowl* channel has a decent video on the subject. If you can ignore the constant "Watch my video about this..." comments, it's worth at least a few minutes of your time.
The title of the video is "Bowl Gouge - Which way to Cut - Supported Grain"

Hi, thank you for the advise it does make sense to cut with the supported grain this particular bowl had probably the worst tear out I’ve ever experienced, next time I will try cutting in different directions to find the best result, I’ll take a look at the turn a wood bowl video I can always fast forward through the self promotion bits 🙂
