@@ameliaheppe3990 read the response above. College is likely the reason a lot of younger kids are broke. Unnecessary for most debt servitude for almost all.. Thank govt intervention for the unaffordability. Only has gotten less effective and more expensive since govt got its greedy hands on the industry with the inception of the dept of education. Theres a reason why the richest people didnt go to college. There are tons of online courses, trade schools, apprentice programs, workshops available. The people not falling underwater have built side hustles part time. 10 hrs a week is enough to get most started, either side hustling or learning a new skill. Theres 168 hours in a week, 10-20 hours is completely reasonable. How many hours are you SPENDING on entertainment? How much time are you INVESTING in yourself to learn a new skill? Its a mindset. As an entrepreneur myself, I can image the UBI could help with many aspects of the people and society. It's like the feel that I invent/perceive a brilliant idea and later establish a startup company to implement it.
Exactly, UBI would give you the power (and resources) to start your business. If hundreds of people follow suit, the industry would be competitive and keep prices lower.
I have been watching some of Dianne Sawyer's documentaries ..HIDDEN AMERICA. It so hard for people .. eg over 100,000 people a year sell their blood plasma to make ends meet. HUMANITY FIRST.💝💝💝 May God's Blessings be with you Andrew Yang. Your parents did a wonderful job
I think its more of a mental health aspect. It really isn't about the money, its more about peoples mental health and how money brings more stress to people. Creating a UBI for people across the board would help change peoples mindset than anything.
Please Andrew. Please keep pushing for this. You're gonna fall on your face so much because the people in power don't want this. But if you get enough people talking about it you can enact real POSITIVE change :)
Wrong. It will be an income cap. I'd say around $25k single and $35k married couple. It's basically for those who don't pay tax saying they can pay buy buying more. Of course they will also remove the tax credits so they don't work and make $5k a year and get a $10k refund.
The most underrated US presidential nominee in the 21st Century. I was preaching to my friends and family about why UBI is necessary and how dangerous automation could be if we have no plan. They went from denying everything I was saying to finally seeing its truth amidst this pandemic and claiming that they always believed it
Imagine how many homeless people will be taken off the streets with UBI. Even in places like San Francisco or LA. A few guys can pool their UBi and get a modest place together.
@Jamie Kinthaert Everyone knows San Fran is expensive. Either you are trying to make a joke, which is over done and not funny, or you just have the wrong info. There are studio apartments or even 1 bedrooms for about $3000 and under.
Unfortunately, the kind of $ he's talking about ($1000 per month per person) is much LESS than many welfare programs provide. It wouldn't begin to replace ALL of those programs he talks about eliminating. Hundreds of special insterest groups would demand, and get, both.
I'm with Joe on this. When I first heard about his ubi plan I thought it was the dumbest thing I've ever heard. After actually listening to him talk about I'm instead thinking "This guy is going to save the world". Yang 2020!

One of those robots will take at least 3 or 4 jobs since they never stop with only a handful of maintenance and software workers for every few dozen machines in contrast.
Man, I've heard of automation years ago from my college Math professor back in 2010, who has a full time career in that field in automation of vehicles. This has to be our president of our future as he see's this coming as of right now.
The first few sentences Joe Said reminded me of The Dark Knight when Bruce was having a party to support Dent’s campaign & Bruce gave his little speech. Same vibes
@Imaru Lewis Yang is for killing babies. Having an aborition is killing a baby with a heartbeat, hands and feet, fingernails and a unique genetic makeup. you do understand that just because a baby is in the womb doesnt change the fact that it is a bay right?
~ Pay close attention to and consider Yang's proposal to give each registered US voter a subsidized $100 per year to donate to whichever candidate(s) they determine will best serve their community or their children's interests. My rough estimate, that is 28 billion dollars worth of campaign funding in the hands of US voters. This "proletariat lever" easily out weighs the 3.4 billion of total corporate lobbying in 2018. This addresses a power imbalance and puts policy making back into the collective voter's hands.
Angel Chavez - Wormeaful It cant be any worse then what’s in place now, this system is set up for the rich to get richer and if you’re not a “winner” or lose your job in this economy you might as well off yourself. Man it would’ve been nice to have Yang as President as oppose to someone who can barely put a sentence together or someone who complains about voter fraud.
I like the UBI, but it is only a bandaid solution-in order to truly give workers the power, we need to be given a share of the means of production and distribution, if we are to not be trampled on by the elite. I still donated a buck. But I want more worker co-ops.
I was definitely sceptical at first but after watching just one of his more serious videos, I am hooked and am determined to vote for him. It's interesting how we are conditioned to be ok that we are spending trillions of dollars for our military and defense, and that multi-trillion dollar companies are getting tax-cuts, for-profit prisons and pharmaceutical companies making so much profit out of the poor and the sick without contest. It's time we wake up and finally realise that we deserve to get something back. We all deserve to earn a little more and have less stress in paying for student loans, that expensive car repair we've been putting off, health insurance with dental and vision, saving up for our children's education, finally affording to go on vacation to broaden our cultural experiences, or heck, trying out that local posh seafood restaurant that we can never afford to dine in. Let's make this happen guys!
We need to get rid of centralized government and implement direct democracy via blockchain (liquid democracy). UBI is great but we need to redistribute company shares rather than wealth. Corporations are amoral, they only seek to secure the interests of their stockholders, so give that power back to the people rather than going after them with regulations.
Yang wants to replace our current democracy with "democracy dollars", $100 from the government per citizen which can be donated to the candidate of their choice / preventing candidates from taking corporate and big money funding. Elon Musk mentioned having a block chain flat direct democracy on Mars though.
Here he talks about overturning Citizens United to end SuperPACS and corporate dark money political campaigns funding www.yang2020.com/policies/overturning-citizens-united/
Mark Schmidt I think Yang is a step in the right direction for sure, but when it comes down to it I think Churchill was right, democracy is a bad system of government, it's just the rest are the worse. Sure it's mob rule, but the way I see it, at this point it's either the people rule or *they* rule. Flawed as we are, at least we have our own interests at heart, which is more than I can say for *them* and their ilk.
It’s not a thing of opinion, research indicates crime is not linked with poverty, but it is linked with relative poverty (which is different in a substancial way)
@@dotexe4981 " I think most crimes are commited because of poverty and desperation." Has got to be one of the dumbest things I've read in months. There is no empirical research that shows that this assertion is true. There are many poor/impoverished areas in the US that are not crime ridden.
@@dotexe4981 I have traveled around the world and two, that's not how empirical evidence works. That would be anecdotal evidence. The science is clear, poverty does not mean high crime.
This guy makes a lot of sense. It's funny to see people comment that don't even have close to the knowledge and education this guy has in economics. They assume is that people will be getting free money and won't be working, which is pretty sad. This is the 21st century, time to progress and accept that the world is changing and certain things need to be met in order to keep up with these changes.
Not only that but it will give artists, creators, and inventors a way to support themselves while still having time to build things that will eventually benefit the world and create profit later. People can't invest into turning hobbies and passions into tangible businesses right now without fear of becoming homeless, which is something increased minimum wage certainly won't fix.
Always, the biggest line of criticism against Yang's universal basic income is, How to pay for it?? Answer: Two words-- Robocall Tax. Every time you, the American consumer, receive a robocall on your phone, the federal government shall collect a $15 tax/toll from the telemarketer, as well as charge the phone service provider that serviced the call-- Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.-- a $10 "UBI" fee. Telemarketers send 26 billion such calls (and text msgs!) to Americans every year. Doesn't matter what form an ad takes, whether via Internet or by phone, Telemarketers must not get away with free robocalling. I urge Mr. Yang to consider robocall taxing as a financing solution for his UBI policy.
The reason Yang is not our President right now… he’s too smart. Most people will not stop and listen. He’s not full of platitudes. The facts hurt but most will not try to understand those facts.
I like Yang but I can't respect censoring someone over a curse word, especially if you took the clip for a podcast that isn't yours to begin with. You still have my vote tho.
You know I’m for Bernie but a lot what he’s saying makes sense and should be in place already he has my vote if he makes it! because I’m one of these people that can’t afford a 500$ unexpected bill living pay check to check.
How would UBI play out with individuals already getting some form of government assistance such as social security, unemployment or disability? And would the government be able to withhold your ubi check for backed child support, defaulted student loans or backed taxes?
I don't know about the second question. But about your first question, at least with Yang's proposal, is, that you could decide wether you stayed on your current assistance or change to UBI.

@@CaliMeatWagon Yea but now take all the jobs that robots and computers have replaced and compare to the number of new jobs created. Turn majority of retailers and drivers into coders and robot technicians? For now we have other fields, but down the road?
@@CaliMeatWagon ? All the manufacturing jobs in Wisconsin, Ohio, ect. They all got outsourced BECAUSE of automation. "Im gonna say something snappy so I sound smart even though everything I say is objectively wrong."

A much more likely transition would be to work on self driving cars, which by the way isn't happening between now and 2020, nor during the time Yang could theoretically be driving. Apples to oranges..
This was a great podcast.

@Gap Rame Mlon Eusk Joe turned on him in one of his recent podcast
cant believe im saying this but I think I actually found a president I actually can stomach for once its really refreshing as far as hope goes for our country

I'm a political science grad and he's the only candidate I ever campaigned for and will ever campaign for

I used to play guitar hero at Sears Haha 😂good times
OMG! As an outsider, I've never ever seen so much positivity & synchronised agreements from US citizens on US President candidates, and certainly, never binge watch any of them until Andrew Yang.
All the best Andrew and praying for your victory.

We need Andrew Yang.
Humanity First Yang2020
David Page it’s not humanity when it is compulsory.
Hey, I'm a 49 year old, prior service, GED, truck driver :D
You've had plenty of time to learn more skills than how to drive a truck. Plenty of time to save and plan for your future. You fucked up and want a bailout. So does everyone else, instead of hunkering down and putting in the work
@NorthernCaliWay Ya see. Truck driver first, save, then learn a new skill. You dont even need $1k a month. Everyone else would just stay in the truck driver job because its easy, and complain later when they're 49 that they need extra money because their only skill has been replaced by a robot (or younger person).
More hard working people like you, less people begging for a govt hand out
@@quietlike This is cute and all but how realistic is this?
quietlike do you understand how expensive it is to go to college? if you live in a middle of nowhere town and your parents lose their jobs bc the factories moved to southeast asia? it’s a lot harder than saving up for a few years.
And cost? Online courses range from a few hundred to a few thousand. People have no problem getting 6 figures into debt for a worthless degree, but think its impossible to save a few thousand for a complete course as they go into debt for iphones, tvs, and cars. Priorities

Imagine a guy who before running for office actually bothers to do the reading about the social problems of the country.

You could take the ubi and flip houses in Detroit.
Quite depressing actually. I pray that this young man wins. $1000 a month is nothing for some folks but it would be like a gift from God for so many others.
HUMANITY FIRST.💝💝💝
May God's Blessings be with you Andrew Yang.
Would someone who makes money also get $12,000 a year? Because if so I'm down.
yes, that is the idea of UBI. it is universal.
Wrong. It will be an income cap. I'd say around $25k single and $35k married couple. It's basically for those who don't pay tax saying they can pay buy buying more. Of course they will also remove the tax credits so they don't work and make $5k a year and get a $10k refund.
Joe, when are you going to invite Andrew Yang back on your show for a progress/update interview?
Agree ...... #Yanggang2020
I listenned to every single word of this interview. We need to vote Yang.
When this guy says "I ran the numbers" - I believe him...
😂
This is equivalent to Lincoln freeing slaves. Like, there is no turning back once UBI is implemented.
Retake history please
UBI is by all means a much more favorable alternative to the welfare state. All pro-free market people should be behind this idea 100%
Yang 2020!
Same.
I’m a Trump supporter but Andrew Yang is probably one of my favorite democratic candidates. UBI is an idea that we should definitely look into in the near future.
Just saw Boston dynamics new robo-worker video, it’s happening!

One of those robots will take at least 3 or 4 jobs since they never stop with only a handful of maintenance and software workers for every few dozen machines in contrast.

I'm a Republican But I will vote Yang.
You'll vote yang? So your for killing babies?
@Imaru Lewis Yang is for killing babies. Having an aborition is killing a baby with a heartbeat, hands and feet, fingernails and a unique genetic makeup. you do understand that just because a baby is in the womb doesnt change the fact that it is a bay right?
@@Grindor225 is there really proof that babies are dying in those wars? For the record im conservitive but I'm completly anti war.

Register Democrat so you can vote in the primaries plz
~ Pay close attention to and consider Yang's proposal to give each registered US voter a subsidized $100 per year to donate to whichever candidate(s) they determine will best serve their community or their children's interests. My rough estimate, that is 28 billion dollars worth of campaign funding in the hands of US voters. This "proletariat lever" easily out weighs the 3.4 billion of total corporate lobbying in 2018. This addresses a power imbalance and puts policy making back into the collective voter's hands.
Sounds like a terrible idea but look at the facts and they will answer your questions.
Angel Chavez - Wormeaful It cant be any worse then what’s in place now, this system is set up for the rich to get richer and if you’re not a “winner” or lose your job in this economy you might as well off yourself. You can’t solve new problems with old solutions, our system and government is WAY behind technology and automation and Yang understands that. Yangs proposal is a lot better then what we have now which is nothing at all but greedy politics and corporations that care nothing less about the everyday struggles of the people and the economy.
@@Demiurge66 I understand ur point but wouldn't it better to right the wrongs, bring back offshored jobs and make people productive and prosperous? Sounds like a long shot. But so does UBI. AI doesn't make sense unless they are phasing out humans and AI will serve itself! Sounds like Skynet!

Our next president!
wonder how many people who were against UBI last year are now praying for it....

@@dotexe4981 " I think most crimes are commited because of poverty and desperation."
Has got to be one of the dumbest things I've read in months. There is no empirical research that shows that this assertion is true. There are many poor/impoverished areas in the US that are not crime ridden.

so much better than pander with Sanders
You could even use your ubi and start a business on eBay. Good side hustle.
We had so many stores close in my area. Even big chain stores. There's less and less brick and mortar anything left.

Man up. Stop being a victim. Dumbest comment ever.
@@MikeB-mo1tk you don't simply "man up" to depression, anxiety or suicide. depression and anxiety are mental illnesses, which can lead to suicide.
Love #yang. Homeboy drops facts and math... math that scares uneducated people

The reason Yang is not our President right now… he’s too smart. Most people will not stop and listen. He’s not full of platitudes. The facts hurt but most will not try to understand those facts.
I’m a displaced teacher with a college degree and can’t find a job. UBI could be the Renaissance we’ve been needing for a while.
And now look. They want to spend 3 trillion on one more 1200$ check
If people can't buy the products what's the point of the companies saving money with automation?

You know I’m for Bernie but a lot what he’s saying makes sense and should be in place already he has my vote if he makes it! because I’m one of these people that can’t afford a 500$ unexpected bill living pay check to check.
I miss him so much.
Joe Rogan. It's a thinking error to think that more income creates laziness & who are you to judge?
I'm a republican but Andrew Yang seems like a great candidate.
As far as the 2nd Q, when it's presented, there will be obligations & guidelines
I like yang!
Joe-- have Yang back on for another interview!!! 🙏
