      The only thing better than owning a particular plant is being able to grow another to share with someone special!

      Maybe one day we'll ship internationally... that'd be cool if we can pull it off one day in the years ahead - Shane

    That 3" plant I recieved is massive with huge aerial roots (thanks, Courtney!). Some are nearly a foot long. I'm going to give it a moss pole after it's acclimated, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to support the roots? I live in the PNW and my house hangs out at around 60% humidity.

      It shouldn't need anything crazy! They're pretty good at climbing, but remember the biggest tip for encouraging climbing on a pole... the plant has to understand that water isn't available as much from the soil anymore, but that water will run down the wood/pole/moss and that it should root into that to gain moisture. So keeping your pole wetter than your soil more often is a big key!

    I finally got lucky and nabbed one when y’all were in stock. It snapped off yesterday and I’m devastated! What’s the best propagation method for these?

    Hi Shane, can you recommend a specific water soluble fertilizer for the Rio and other philodendrons, please?

    • @GabriellaPlantsOnline
      @GabriellaPlantsOnline  Před 2 lety

      In our world as commercial level growers, most of them don't even include names but for most indoor plants, you're going to want 'foliage' marketed water soluble vs. 'bloom' mixtures. The NPK of the one we're using right now is 20-10-20, but they come in 25 or 50lb bags, so it's a little different than what may be at Home Depot, but I hope that helps! - Shane

    I have my rio growing in sphagnum moss. What are your care tips for that medium? Thank you

    • @GabriellaPlantsOnline
      @GabriellaPlantsOnline  Před 2 lety

      I have to say, I'm not great with sphagnum or many of the alternative growing mediums, as I grew up since I was in diapers with my hands in "soil" or the peat moss / perlite mixture we still use to this day, it's just what I know down to the way it changes color depending on it's moisture contents... I don't have the deep of an understanding of spagnum, but I know plenty of people who have been successful with it. Like any medium though, philodendrons like consistent access to moisture, while at the same time, cannot survive being physically suffocated if your medium is to dense or too saturated. - Shane (owner of GP)

    how much for the hanging basket?

    • @GabriellaPlantsOnline
      @GabriellaPlantsOnline  Před 2 lety

      Those hanging baskets are currently our stock baskets, or mother plants, for the other sizes we grow. However, I think Rio looks great in a hanging form, so I'm starting to experiment with growing perhaps a 5" hanging basket version later in the year or into 2023. - Shane
