@ucdchan The filters work great (the only filters you can clean in a tux, ha) but are a little costly to run because of the pressure. Although may be worth it for the labor savings. As far as heating the room vs heating the water, I think it's a toss up since the only power we have available is elec.

@kingjamwi We are using a temporary bio filter using nylon scrubber pads for media but there is too much maintenance. We are now building a larger permanent unit which uses k-1 plastic media. We will show that in the next video. Anyone who would like to see another very good backyard system should visit TheUrbanFarmingGuys here on You tube. They are doing some really good things.

You could use all that nutrient rich water to grow a TON of plants, and if you use a continuous flow system it seconds as a filter. No high pressure filters, and who doesn't like growing plants.

what an amazing setup. have you given any thought to enhancing your system by using plants to act as your filtration? a simple flood and drain system could help you deal with your fish waste, and give you a crop of herbs and veggies in the process. and apparently you can include vermiculture to the mix to help deal with the inevitable sediment that accumulates in your grow bed. i've been doing some research, and that seems to be the best way to create a self managing ecosystem.
    cheers

@web4deb Last months electric bill was $85 bucks. I won't know how expensive that is until we see how many fish we can harvest per month. Right now, I'm not concerned. I just want to see the system developed then we can figure out how to economize. Steve.

great setup, I am wondering if this is for commercial or personal use? just wondering because that is a lot of fish even for a small family and the energy this setup uses must be up there.

Great videos. Just a question. Dont you need the fish waste for the all important nitrites, nitrates?

I am here in Rwanda and want to start a fish project. How do I get duckweed started? will it start on it's own? Feed it the big issue here, there is no commercial feed that is available here that I am aware of so if I could grow my own feed that would be perfect. Thanks for doing these videos, very helpful.

Love your set up and you will be my mentor..LOL. What is the brand name of your sive? And what did it cost you? I currently have two 350 totes that I have set up a couple of months ago. How do you keep duck weed going? I know lots of questions, but please share some of our info. Thanks.

Nice work! Never thought of using Sand Pool filter to filter fish tanks. How do you like it so far? Would it be more economical to heat the room with a room heater?
