You can try to lead a horse to water, but... Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I see a psych eval in this defendant's future, but I imagine he'll pass.
Prosecutor was very good in this clip. Warned the defendant and made clear and concise arguments.

1:53 The prosecutor did the defense attorney a solid there.
3:36 Ditto plus she also likely helps avoid a successful ineffective assistance of counsel claim down the road.
5:01 Judge did the same (and also likely helps avoid a successful ineffective assistance of counsel claim down the road).

I can see him mentally creating his new targets’ list: 1) his attorney; 2) the prosecutor; 3) Judge Simpson.

This was a very tricky situation. Had the defendant incriminated himself it's likely any admissions would be excluded due to mental incapacitation. The defense attorney was rightly frustrated, however, he could've changed the course of this proceeding by raising a competence evaluation. That would've/should've shut this entire matter down and possibly muted the defendant from continuing the hole to which he dug.

    Mental note:
    Never use the phrase,
"My grandfather was in me!" while attempting to reduce my bond requirements.
