To be honest when Hollywood Singers first came out this was the song I had in mind when thinking man if East West did a demo video featuring this Pink Floyd song that'is how your going to sell this product.
Haha, same sentiment here. I was actually thinking more like "what the heck _else_ they expect us to do with this" 🤣 But to be fair, there's pretty much more that can be done with it, cheers!
@@mimojapan it does. But wow you have skill and patience to get that together man. And what a song and what an album. I saw them in 74 play this in London and it nearly killed me it was so good.
@@kaviji Experiencing Pink Floyd live must be immense. I never had the pleasure but only saw them on DVDs. The whole "Dark Side" album stuck in my head though, after having live performed it with friends ~20 Years ago at a tiny venue. So much joy it was.
Absolutely stunning! I make VSTi covers too, but focusing on modern metal songs cause i'm not able to achieve a vintage sound yet. I'd love to get the same result you got in this VSTi cover, you achieved it with true mastery!
Many thanks for checking it out! There are now so many great virtual tools available, it may be just a matter of time and some practice to get interesting results. Good luck with your projects, Cheers!
This was excellent. Kudos! I really liked it. If I may ask... what is the app you used to control the sax? Does it only work for the sax, or is it a different form of midi controller for any instrument? Also, is it doing what I think it is... is it highlighting notes in the key to help while improvising? Looks awesome. Haven't seen anything like that.
The app used is "GeoShred" (as is mentioned in the video description.) It does not only work for sax but the app itself also holds tons of sounds and is much fun to play with.
OMG mimojapan, this is an incredible performance. I always loved Pink Floyd and hearing this just blew me away. The LapSteel playing is sublime, and the backup singer performance is equally mind-blowing (as is your sax solo work). As a matter of interest, with the Hollywood backup singer ....singular :-) was that performance constructed solely of solo phrases from EWHBS or were you able to use Wordbuilder to sing one singer only, rather than multiple singers ? Can EWHBS be made to sing a solo singer (as opposed to multiple singers) other than using the "solo phrases".... In other words can the standard EWHBS instrument sing solo singer vowel sounds, or can you get it to do solo (as opposed to multiple singers) using Wordbuilder, OR..... do you have to use the solo "phrases" to produce a solo singer performance like you did in this fantastic YT video? If the latter, did you have to cut and paste similar phrases to the original Pink Floyd performance and then do "surgical editing" on them to stitch them together to create this amazingly realistic performance? Again, kudos to you for the amazing achievement here - you should be very proud of what you have achieved imho !!
Thanks for checking it out and for the kind comment! The singers were all default phrases. I did go through all of them and checked which phrases play on which note then "puzzling" them together on a MIDI track. No cut/paste was involved but the offset of some of the phrases was manipulated via modulation wheel automation. And then I did run out of phrases, not the whole song seems included in that product. I was pondering indeed whether to try out the word builder. But then, the sax idea came to mind. It seemed quicker to do and also gave the whole project another note, so to say. Cheers!
Drums sound great !! I see you're using the stock EZD Modern set. Can you tell us what Preset you used and how you modified it to get that sound ? I have EZD2 and it sounds no where as good or sits in the mix a well as your modified kit. Excellent job !
Thank you for listening and for your question. In this case, the drums "EZdrummer 2 Modern +80s" were processed as follows: Waves "Smack Attack" on Snare and Toms; Waves "API-550A" and "API-2500" on the drum bus; And that's about it. Good luck!
Wow mimojapan, this is SOooo COOL! I am myself wanting to redo this song also and am very interested if you could provide any programming details for how you did the lead vocals using EW HW Backup Singers?? I think i have that as part of EW Cloud sub and would appreciate any insight into how you composed that part! I also just got the latest SWAM Sax and wonder which one used (i.e. Alto, Soprano, Tenor, etc)? Thanks in advance -JP
Thank you for listening! The vocals were all done with the patch "HBS Solo Phrases 01 - A", simply by puzzling together parts from the different keys. The Sax is "SWAM Alto Sax", Cheers!
Hello Mimo. Great job with this song. I actually bought the AmpleSound ASL after listening to your interpretation of this iconic song. Between 1:05 and 1:08, how did you manage to slow enough your slide to perfectly fit it? I tried many times in MIDI with my DAW without success. Even with a velocity of 1 on the upper note, the slide is still too fast.
@@user-st4nj2qk4q Ok, I must admit, this was quite sneaky of me, haha. I had forgotten how that slide was accomplished, so I opened the project file and checked the MIDI data. What happens there is: 1. Hitting the low (starting) note at reasonable velocity and then 2. adding several half tone notes at lowest velocity 1 (!), then going up to where it needs to be. It looks like this: www.mimo-jp.com/ample-long-slide.jpg If this "top secret" stuff is valuable to you and if you can and wish, there's a "coffee" link in my profile that could be used for a donation. Thanks for checking it out! The "right" (well, ... kind of) sounds were some puzzle works indeed. I simply spotted some of the near-original phrases while browsing around, then assembled them piece by piece on the timeline of the song. The content is pretty much basically playing the right phrase at the right time, with some of them "offset" by modulation wheel to modify the timing. Cheers!
