    The entire Railway track in Sri Lanka was built by the British government in 1864 mainly for transporting tea and coffee from the hill country to main city, Colombo. After owing the independence, the railway tracks remain unchanged even for today.
    The main line which is known as Upcountry line is undoubtedly the most fascinating and famous line not only in Sri Lanka, but also in the whole world. One can see many waterfalls, forests, misty peaks, beautiful stations and so many tea estates and factories.
    There are four main trains are traveling to Upcountry daily which are three day time trains and one famous night mail train which is hauled by two German made diesel locomotives.
    It is possible to reserve a seat in prior of the departure time, but important to keep in mind that they do sell very quickly as a lot of people are preferring to travel in the train nowadays.

    • @Chasingthebliss
      @Chasingthebliss  Před 6 lety

      Yes that is Adam's Peak. Since the day was clear on that day, it was visible. :)

    • @Calligraphy-dilipaweeratunga13
      @Calligraphy-dilipaweeratunga13 Před 5 lety +1

      No. It's originally called Samanola giri. Where the the Buddha's footprint is.

    • @Calligraphy-dilipaweeratunga13
      @Calligraphy-dilipaweeratunga13 Před 5 lety +1

      @fawad khan no the peak was mentioned as "samantha koota" or "samanola giri " in many sri lankan chronicles .Lord Buddha's foot print was established in about 6century BC.after the kandian kingdom's assignation colonial rulers gave the name adam's peak.
      If the name was given by jesus christ or phrophet muhummed ,still the local name is much older ,Im talking in milleniums .

    • @Calligraphy-dilipaweeratunga13
      @Calligraphy-dilipaweeratunga13 Před 5 lety +1

      @fawad khan actually we are changing the names back to the original ones.
      As an example there are over30 000man made lakes .almost or I would say every one of these made by Sinhalese kings(besides the ones built during mahaveli mass development programme ,yet again made by us).
      But our brothers live in north and east changed them to their language .Ex: you brothers changed Yodha wewa to periyam kulam,
      Hunu gama to chunnaagam,Mahaa thiththa to mannaram ,Gokanna thiththa to trikunaamalei,and so on....
      its not that bad ,to change the original sinhalese name to tamil.
      And also the same for the reverse .
      We dont live soo much long in this life,so ,why fighting,why liberation .literally almost every Sinhalese andTamil and Muslim live in southern part of the country live ,work, celebrate together.only the extremists and the defenders against them are fighting.He was the Sinhalese king Senarath who offered whole villages to live for the first muslim people arrived.but they went against us when portuguese ,dutch,and english invaded us.but the past is only past.
      Live a long happy life.

      Its good that it's slow. More time to enjoy the beauty. The train journey is 12 hours aprox and you get to enjoy sunrise, sunset, misty mountains, vast paddy fields. Just wonderful.
