As a practising Catholic, I was really impressed with the details in which you went to explain the rosary. From its origination, to the different mysteries, it was all good. Besides Richard Brand, have you seen that Tammy Peterson (Jordan Peterson's wife) was given a rosary by a good friend of hers..., and this all led to her healing and eventual conversion to Catholicism. I have also noticed a growing audiance of many well known you-tube speaker's diving into deep research of the faith prompting a wave of conversions. I can personally attest to the transformative power of the rosary when it comes to my life. I never go a day without saying it.

Coptic beads of single decade are distinct from strung beads used by culture or custom secular practice.
The Catholic Rosary dates to the thirteenth century; later papal bull by Pius about 1574; now with twenty mysteries encircled by five decades or fifteen full decades with the Luminous Mysteries addition writ the late John Paul II.
When Death tugs a young man's sleeve, or grapples a full Nelson hold with arms and hands pressing upon neck, a soldier who is Catholic will approach a rabbi for confession, a Jew will take Communion from a Catholic priest, and rosaries are worn around the nec-ecumenical secular style-like dogtags.

Ultimately, it's up to Brand what he wants to do. As an ardent self publicist, it's inevitable that whatever he does will attract opinion. As it is inevitable that he will feel the need to document that in minute detail. For Brand it's like a growing up in public, as it were. This has it's own rewards. I wont speculate as to what that might be. But off he goes. I hope that you feel better soon. I greatly enjoy your wise and reasoned posts.

Traditionally during the month of May the rosary was said in most houses in Ireland by the entire family every evening. This took about twenty minutes and wes quite commonplace in my youth. It is also said at funerals and wakes. I still have my father's rosary beads to remind me of those days. We probably wouldn't be talking about it now were it not for Russell Brand, of all people.

This is the most powerful prayer there is. It encourages you to meditate on the mystery and sacrifice of Christ for us, I urge everyone to look into it. Regarding the origin, it is believed that Mary appeared in 1214 to St.Dominic and presented the prayers and beads to him to be adopted. There is also evidence that desert fathers in the 3rd & 4th centuries had a small hand rope to pray with. In regards to Russell brand using it, I'm not surprised. it's very powerful.

@epincion There is a huge difference between dicipline habits and spiritual or religious ritual and having good morning habits to get you to work on time.
      One is a life skill.
The other is an esoteric practice envoking the favour of diety or higher power.
Be very wary of those who would conflate the two.
They are not the same thing.
Using the word ritual to describe the mundane, I would guess is done to muddy the waters in the hope of making ritual invocation a 'normalised' practice.
Is not really normal at all.

Ummm, errr........Old habits die hard, Prof. I have always found prayer knots or beads rather fascinating. In my travels, I have only seen the men using them. Maybe because the women don't have time, always tied to the house, kitchen and the children. I praise Orthodoxy. It stabilizes the World. Once, it used to be royalty as well. Belief systems that bond. Our "new" age dripping with technology and "woke" utilitarianism and Baal like ideology, has tried to substitute the old and traditions with its cult similar structures.
