  • Allan St Maximin looks set to leave Newcastle United after a cryptic message on instagram left fans curious in the latest transfer news surrounding the club. St Maximin’s future has been a constant source of speculation since Eddie Howe arrived at NUFC and ASM’s role has become less clear as the team have made huge strides forward as the club finished 4th in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League and it could be that St Maximin is needed as Newcastle look to compete in four competitions next season, including the Champions League of course.

    Do you think St Maximin will leave Newcastle United this summer?

    • @jamesmccarthy6764
      @jamesmccarthy6764 Před rokem +1

      Yes. Get him out the door & use the money for Maddison & Barnes. I feel the reason most fans want to keep is sentiment over what he did for us in the past, but he doesn't fit the way we play now. Moving Wood & Shelvey ultimately were proved to be the correct moves, as neither has played much for Forest, plus it freed up some extra cash for us this summer!

      Do we really need to be grateful to multi-millionaires? For years he acted like he was doing us a favour by staying. I appreciate guys like Tipppier, Targett, Bruno, Isak, Longstaff, Jo, Burn, etc., who are modest & I could imagine having a pint with. Maxi is a luxury player, who lacks the earnestness & graft of the players I've mentioned.

      Agree maxi is a good player but Barnes in our team would give us so much more going forward and defending

    I hope he stays, he’s a unique talent. I can’t think of anyone else who plays quite like him that could be a direct replacement. He would be a starter for me but Eddie has a plan and I trust the process. If he is to leave I wish him all the best

      The number of games we play next season may be a factor in if we keep him. I'd love to see him play CL footy for us personally but can also see if there's a good offer comes in why the club may choose to reinvest it.

  • @TrifficLad33
    @TrifficLad33 Před rokem +2

    He was a key player when we we're shite gave us a bit of excitement, but now he doesn't fit our style of play and isn't fit enough to count on for a wholr season. If we could get 30m and get someone else in who will play regular, i'd be happy to let him go and wish him well.

  • @petertyson2
    @petertyson2 Před rokem +1

    For me ASM is a really good player, on his day but, there has not been enough of those really good days. If we get a good enough offer, then let him go. We're in the big leagues now, no room for sentimentality there.

    • @iansmithfootball
      @iansmithfootball  Před rokem +1

      Yes I understand this view - as a bit part player he could be useful but I may make more sense to cash in whilst his price may never be higher.

  • @rossmcfarlane1219
    @rossmcfarlane1219 Před rokem +2

    There's not a club out there that would pay 40m for him, we would be lucky to get 25, far to injury prone and not consistent enough.

    • @iansmithfootball
      @iansmithfootball  Před rokem +1

      You may well be right. I think £30m is doable though for a 26 year old with 3 years left on his contract. He would be a difference maker at a lot of clubs

  • @davidhughes4489
    @davidhughes4489 Před rokem +1

    It is appreciated how he helped the club in dark times,,however in sport it is about the Now, and as much as I like Maxi I dont feel his performances are what we need in taking the club forward or maintaining where we are. Id take the money and re-invest in some other options on that left hand side. We need more consistency than I believe he can offer at this higher level we are at (god willing we stay there). I genuinely wish him well though, a true nice guy.

  • @davidhoward5392
    @davidhoward5392 Před rokem +1

    Whilst he has undoubted talent and can be a real threat, his biggest problem is a lack of consistency, which is his most consistent trait, not convinced that he is prepared to sit on the bench plus his ego may not allow it. I personally would sell him, we do need an unsettling player in the dressing 35 - 40m

    • @iansmithfootball
      @iansmithfootball  Před rokem

      I think the consistency issue is why Howe would look to move him on. As good as he can be.

      @@iansmithfootball he at times lacks the football smarts of Bruno, he still hangs on to the ball long at times, not convinced he had the discipline required in a game at times.

    I hope it's not a goodbye, but if it is then so be it. My thoughts about ASM are that in our darkest days during the Bruce era, he and Willson were pretty much the only decent players we had. As I've said many times when Howe came in I hoped he would shine even brighter with a better coach and players around him. Sadly that has not been the case and I could easily name several players who have played better and had a bigger impact on our season than he has. In some cases players he once eclipsed. That said injuries haven't helped but he is something of an enigma in that area as well. As the club says he is injured he posts videos of himself in the gym or out running.
    If he stays then I do think it will be his last season, some of the players we are being linked with will only improve things and I can see his chances of starting reduced. Will he be happy with the odd 60-minute appearance to shake things up? If he can't play the game Eddie wants him to then he'll be gone.

  • @ianresc3615
    @ianresc3615 Před rokem

    I like the guy and would hate to see him leave. Then again, he isn't a natural goal scorer and he doesn't know where his team mates are either. Would it hurt the team? No. So from that point of view I could understand it, if he wanted to move on. With Isak and Gordon already in the squad, Miggy having a decent season and Sozoboszlai being rumored to join, he would probably be nothing more than option number 4 or 5 at this point and I expect them to bring in another player on top of that.

  • @Ge0rdiE_1892
    @Ge0rdiE_1892 Před rokem +1

    Football is a stat driven business and with that in mind ASM was simply not good enough especially when you consider that both Jack Harrison and Harvey Barnes had better stats and both there clubs got relegated. If Eddie Howe decides ASM's time is up so be but if Maxi is still at the club next season get behind the lad.

    • @iansmithfootball
      @iansmithfootball  Před rokem

      Fair enough, I think if he is here he can do a good job for us but won't be a regular. I think Howe isn't keen on him and sometimes a player doesn't fit a managers style.
