  • In this English lesson you'll learn 8 different idioms that you can use when you're talking about work. Each of these are quite common. In fact I heard 5 of these just over the past few days. I'll be sure to explain the meaning, and also give you a number of example sentences as well. You'll also be able to hear the pronunciation as I use each of them numerous times.
In this lesson you'll learn words and phrases like: to roll up your sleeves, to bend over backwards, to get cracking, to go the extra mile, to cut corners, to have your work cut out for you, to pull your socks up, and to have your hands full.
I hope you enjoy this lesson on business idioms.
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

I have been watching your video for over 7 years now on a daily basis. When I do my house chores, I always listen to you, so it is a win-win, finishing my work and listening to English and learning from you. Although I ended up in Canada since 7 years now and although I really speak English very very well now but I can't stop listening to you because there is always something new to learn and also you are so nice teacher with positive energy that keeps everyone motivated. Merci encore et Bon journée ❤

I'm a Russian speaking student who's about to take an IELTS exam in a couple of months so I need to roll up my sleeves to enrich my vocabulary. I'm trying to learn new words and phrases everyday by listening or reading different texts/podcasts, there's no way to cut corners while preparing for such an exam. People who want to get a higher score, need to get cracking on their preparation. It's really good if you go the extra mile and find supplementary resources while getting ready for the exam. Those who are lazy or don't feel motivated need to pull their socks up! Despite the fact that it can be sometimes very hard to find 'the right time' to sit at the table and start working because you have your hands full, try to do your best anyway! IELTS exam preparation means you have your work cut out for you.

Great video Bob, as per usual! I would only like to add the idiom "to go above and beyond". I know it's very similar to "to go the extra mile" or "to go the whole nine yards", but I thought it was worth mentioning it, cos I think it's quite common and useful too.
