    Oh man talk about timing! I am picking up my new FX3 this week! I just got into videography less than a year ago. Your videos inspired me and provided valuable information, good creative ideas and more importantly direction. I have completely changed my life in the last few years and now i have a new small business playing with cameras and editing software in a sport a love and am competing in as well. Thanks for all the dope videos brother!

    Love it! Fx3 too expensive for us hobbyists so fx30 is the go to and maybe a6700 paired. That said how do you deal with highlights? While everything was cinematic sometimes highlights were blown out.

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před rokem +1

      Very fair point! FX3 definitely isn’t cheap. Yeah sometimes the highlights definitely were blown out. Obviously always best to avoid that but when you’re moving quickly to get shots that isn’t always possible sadly. If I’m going to blow them out I try to colour my image however I can to draw the viewers eye to the subject/action in the shadows, and if the subject/action is in the blown out highlights then I’m probably not using that shot.

    Recording on 3 different cameras, how do you match them all up with the timeline afterwards lol

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 3 měsíci

      When I’m bringing the footage in afterwards I’ll usually line everything up based on the time finder says it was recorded from earliest to latest. It isn’t that hard quite honestly since I’ve got a fairly consistent game day routine and am not switching cameras back and forth too frequently either

    If I may ask: So you don't use any PP's, that are in the camera menu, correct ? You just set up your settings "manually", just like you would do with other brands of camera. Thank you !

    May I ask the reason why you are using high number shutter speed? For example at 6:39, 120 frames which means you double the shutter (250 in this case) to get the lowest iso possible? Very well structured video, enjoyed every part of it!

    Great videos! I always wondered if someone guards your equipment while you’re up in the bleaches or away from your gear. Any tips on this? I try to travel light with a backpack so I don’t leave it behind while I’m capturing something further but sometimes my back hurts after a while plus it’s uncomfortable filming with it.

      I usually leave my stuff behind a team bench because there are layers of security to pass before getting there and there’s lots of people around. Often times there’s also a media or camera room where you can leave your stuff so if that’s available I’ll do that.

    • @DBELK2

      I’m curious about this too - filming 4k 120 doesn’t seem practical considering file size

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před rokem +1

      Generally just 4k60 and 4k120, with 120fps being used in the red zone and key moments like the fourth quarter of a close game. I film in S&Q for the most part during warm ups because the audio is generally unusable in most scenarios with copyrighted music blasting in the stadium, and that helps keep file sizes down. I’ve been getting about 120-160gb per game between all cameras on average this season so far.

    i’ve asked this in the past but can you clarify what is the need to shoot S&Q mode? I know people use it for hyper-lapses but was in the point in sports ? I’m not sure i understand what S&Q mode is doing

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 9 měsíci +1

      S&Q mode is recording a clip that’s already slowed down to slow motion (so if you record a clip in S&Q at 120fps it will play back at 20% speed) and without audio. I use it for pregame and establishing shots a lot of the time because in pregame there is often loud copyrighted music that would prevent me from using the audio and S&Q saves file space compared to standard high frame rate recording. The exception to this is if I’m pregame filming a huddle where someone is talking or am right up in front of a player speaking at my in my direction. Then I’ll switch out if S&Q mode to regular recording because their voice will be louder than any music and I want to capture what they’re saying.
