As a Parisian woman, I think the main reason why parisian women stay fit is that we walk a lot.

In general, in Europe, we walk a lot. In America, everyone is driving around and a lot of times the cities over there aren't made for walking, as in Europe, the old parts of town a lot of times don't even allow cars in. Therefore we burn more calories just by living :D

Blue Underwood def miss that about living in France. Here we just use car too much and when you walk to the store people think your crazy.

Not a Parisian, but when I went to college, I averaged 10-16,000 steps every day just walking to campus, and I was at the most fittest point of my life. I only did weight lifting 3 times per week and this was super effective in combination with walking.

I am french and yes, i guess that the secret is small/normal portions... when we travel in other countries like USA, the portions are so huge !! For example you smallest portion in a fast food is actually the bigger in France ^^ We also are lucky about food regulations and also organic standards.

Walking a lot as I don't have a car, running after the short RER, climbing up the stairs to my 7th floor studio with bags full of groceries because no elevator, cycling when going back from parties when there is no metro anymore ^^
no need for fitness when you lve in Paris lol

I live in Paris, and one thing I can tell you is that WE WALK AAAA LOOOOT I wasn't used to this amount of walking in my life because I always had a car to get me where I wanted, and it took me some time to get used to walking instead of driving. Another thing I can tell for sure is that my French friends eat more than me (they eat a salad and a main dish and then a dessert or cheese), i would just go for the main dish but they are still thinner and more fit than me, BECAUSE THEY WALK! A LOT! so... I keep that in mind whenever I get tired of walking hehe!

We WALK A LOT in Paris and if you take the metro, you have tons of stairs. And I think French food is quite good for health in general, so...We eat a lot of everything in reasonable portions. Sport is for leisure or for your heart , it's not to lose weight.

I lived in Paris for three years in the early 70s, when I was in my early 20s. I kept fit because I lived in a 'chambre de bonne' on the sixth floor - no lift/elevator, just a spiral staircase! Plus I walked to work, walked everywhere, and danced a lot.

just to make clear. ordinary walking is no sport=) Its just a movement like cleaning or doing the walking. And of course nordic walking is kind of a sport discipline but normal walking hs not so much to do with energetic nordic walking- and we didn't even talked about the nordic walking sticks, because this is also an additional movement you are making while nordic walking.
