I visited Paris with my parents in April this year. The city is amazing and I was amazed by the architecture, art and the history that it holds. But everything was ruined during our last metro ride, where we became victims to a pick pocket attempt. Luckily we lost nothing, but I don’t feel like visiting the city again.

@@ardarch9445 I didn't understand your question. But if you mean, you haven't experienced something like that in Paris for the last 30 years, then you are just lucky. It's usually the tourists who gets robbed. There are videos and documentaries on youtube proving the same. It has nothing to do with the people of Paris, it's a minority that ruins a city's reputation.

and above all don't forget that Paris is 1% of France...and the real France is in the landscapes of its countryside, its mountains, its lakes, its caves, its forests, its its vineyards, its castles, its diverse and varied monuments, often thousands of years old!....that's France!

I think Paris does live up to it's reputation these days but maybe that's because I remember what it looked like in the 1980s when it was far dirtier and less pedestrian friendly than it is today. By the way I don't believe you need a ticket to walk under the Eiffel Tower, just to go up it though you do need to pass through a security screening. It's not nearly as picturesque underneath since they put up the security walls however. As for Montmartre I was last there mid-afternoon on a Sunday at the end of August and the wait to get in was maybe 5 minutes, I also enjoyed drinks with some local friends outside the cafe at 3:45 and it was relaxing and despite the tourists we were able to take our time and talk.

Paris is lovely, but like any city, you need rose-tinted glasses in order not to pay attention to the negative side. Despite what many say, most Parisiens are nice people. It is a fantastic place to visit, but it is no more romantic than sitting in my garden with one that I live.

the ‘symbol of love,’ the ‘epitome of romance,’ the place where people get all mushy and teary-eyed because, well, metal, right? Yeah, i said it -metal.
I mean, come on, folks! It’s a gigantic hunk of iron slapped together with a bunch of rivets, sticking up out of the ground like some overly enthusiastic kid’s Meccano project gone mad. But nooo, because it’s in Paris, suddenly it’s romantic. Really? You’re telling me if this thing was plonked down in the middle of, I don’t know, Milton Keynes, people would still be swooning over it? I don’t think so!
And don’t get me started on the tourists. They’re all standing there, gazing up at it with hearts in their eyes, taking selfies as if they’ve just discovered the very essence of love itself. Let’s face it, the only thing the Eiffel Tower really symbolizes is how easily we can be convinced that a bunch of metal can represent human emotions if you throw in enough clichés and a good marketing campaign.
Look, I’m not saying the Eiffel Tower isn’t impressive-sure, it’s a feat of engineering, hats off to Gustave Eiffel and all that. But romantic? Give me a break! It’s a cold, hard, unforgiving structure. You want romance? How about a quiet walk along the Seine, or sharing a bottle of wine in a quaint little Parisian café? But no, instead we’ve got people queuing up to climb a steel skeleton, believing it’s the ultimate romantic gesture.
So next time you’re in Paris and someone says, ‘Oh, let’s go see the Eiffel Tower, it’s so romantic!’ just remember-you’re not gazing at love, you’re gazing at a massive, pointy, metal triangle. And if that’s your idea of romance, well... good luck with that!"

However, when i arrived, i thought i was in Africa. There were Africans everywhere in their traditional dress. Traffic was insane and there was no AC anywhere! Every famous landmark i went to had Africans begging me. And sometimes they got aggressive when i declined to purchase whatever they had. I was very uncomfortable. Looking at the landmarks from inside the tour bus was more comfortable for me. It was also expensive. One restaurant charged me according to the weight of my plate! The empty plate was aleady heavy!
