At this point in time, the capital of England was not London but rather Winchester. London was originally a fortified Roman settlement. Its location on the Thames gave it access to the sea, and London Bridge became an important river crossing as well, meaning the city became an important commercial hub. Following the Norman invasion, the capital of England was moved to Westminster, just outside the city, and over time they grew and merged together.

Thorkell the Tall, commander-in-chief of the Jomsvikings and the legendary fortress of Jomsborg, really took part in the Battle of Hjörungavágr in 986. (Episode 1) Thorkell was written down in Viking history as a monster, the tallest man to have lived at that time. He fought in countless battles and always survived despite sometimes suffering severe wounds.
But he did not switch to the English side at that time because it allowed him to fight better battles, but because the Archbishop of Canterbury, an important hostage of his, who he obtained during his battles in the war against England, was killed against his will by his subordinates. Disappointed by the Archbishop's murder and sensing that he was losing control of his men, Thorkell and several other loyalists defected and took 45 Viking ships with them. He and his men then entered the service of the English king Æthelred the Unready as mercenaries, for whom they fought against the invasion of the Danish king Sweyn Forkbeard and his son Cnut in 1013.

Technically this takes before London is the official capital (or even the quasi capital).
Historially, London became the capital because of the Thames. It was wide enough and deep enough to take all manners of trading vessels, but due to being a river rather then a coast, it was easy to defend. It was also close to europe when compared to another cities like York. Its always been a cosmopolitan city, even back 1000 years ago.
Theres also some weird technicalities around it (London wasn't ever really the capital, it was Westminster, and since the Union we technically don't have a capital at all). When we were solely a monarchy, the capital sort of shifted around alot depending on the whims of the king, whereever the king chose to reside kind of became the capital. With the establishment of the goverment in Westminster, London essentially became the capital as its where the polticial power resided.
So yeah. Technially not a capital, has been a defacto capital and biggest cities for about 1000+ years, and its primarily due to geography. Its land that was easy to build on, in close proximity to europe but not too close to be easily invaded.

09:21 You'd use the word "childlike" to describe someone as being or acting like a child, without being a pejorative. The word "childish" is always meant as a pejorative.

London is a massive as it is in the modern day because all the villages around grew so much that they merged with the city.
Thor was the god of thunder, oaks and fertility, however he was very popular as a name so it was used quite often.

According to the art of war, attacking a fortified city is one of the very worst things you can do in war. It should be a last resort. So yeah, pretty realistic.
