Interesting List....? As good a guitarist as Prince is, #3? Never put him in any Top 20 guitar list. And Jack White, sorry Jack. My top five for the past 60yrs. Hendrix, Allman, Clapton, Page and Beck. And that's a hard one putting Beck at #5, he will always be a guitarist, guitarist. 🎸
Why o why is Hendrix rated so highly, I have been fortunate to watch all of the top guitarist live including Hendrix and yes he was great in his time but since his time he has been surpassed by age experience and technology.I was around to see the Yardbirds grow through their different stages and for me Jeff Beck was the only one who grew in stature and maturity, his contribution to the music industry was second to none, he remained top of his game from 1963 until his passing in 2023, he should be top of any list for pure quality and innovative musical advancements, god rest his soul.
Not a bad list - never understand why Ritchie Blackmore never appears higher on these lists - between Rainbow and Deep Purple, the guy is mostly responsible for about 150 million album sales worlwide - that's a lot of appreciation from the record buying public - way more than guys like White, Van Halen and Townsend. I think Blackmore's reputation has clouded many peoples judgement, I dont think there is a serious rock guitarist today that wouldnt put Ritchie way higher up that list - the guy can really play rock guitar but has the classical music chops that no-one else on this list can better - even Hendrix.
Exactly, people seem to be nervous to talk about Ritchie Blackmore, they take a disstance for that reason, instead of having a clear and neutral understanding of how brilliant his guitar playing actually is.

@@stewartmcmanus3991 Yes Stewart that's true. Maybe it's because some people see him as a Folkie and don't realise how many amazing players were in bands dismissed as such. Think of Bert Jansch too. Another stellar player.
Great list! Finally someone not saying Clapton is overrated (never understood this btw). Here is my top 10: 1 - Hendrix 2 - Clapton 3 - Jeff Beck 4 - Gilmour 5 - Page 6 - BB King 7 - SRV 8 - Peter Green 9 - Buddy Guy 10 - Blackmore
michael schenker, undoubtedly most over looked guitarist, as is gary moore, bonamasso can hold his own against any of these guys. have tickets to see him in long beach coming up, no duane allman, dickie betts,

Legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple, Rainbow) gave his opinion on Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) during an interview posted by Blackmore’s fan club in their CZcams Channel back in 2016. The musician recalled how the two lived in the same area when they were young.
The funny thing is that we rate all the best players from the stock of famous guitarists. But there are plenty of guys and gals sitting at home in their bedrooms who we never heard of who are probably just as good if not better. Each generation has its brilliant players just as good as the generation previous. There is no such thing as the best ever.
For my ears are missing Paul Kossoff, Rory Gallagher, Wishbone Ash guitar twins players, Steve Howe, Andy Latimer Steve Hackett, Martin Barre, Craig Chaquico, Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, Albert Collins, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Albert Lee, Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Tommy Bolin, Terry Kath, Leslie West, Ronnie Montrose, Johnny Winter...
