    With much testing over the years some of this cleaning is like washing mud off your legs while standing in the mud. The cooling fan as clearly shown here is covered in smoke reside, this residue is distributed all over the lens and internal parts as the fan runs. The only way to solve that is to get the cooling fan external air well away from any smoke. All you have to do is look at your fan blades or the fan blades of the example modules here. Any residue you see on the fan blades is likely greater deposits on the internal non moving parts. This is a flaw of fans and electronics.

    What a coincidence. I literally did all of this within the last week. Cleaned everything up and twenty minutes later noticed that the problem was my focus had drifted slightly as the lens loosened a half turn. At least it's all clean!
    This is good advice especially for new folks as some people aren't aware that lasers (or anything!) require any maintenance.

    • @ianphilip6281
      @ianphilip6281 Před 2 lety +1

      @@xxxscorpio007 I don't have that module and that depends on your use case. I focus my lasers using precise distancing tools I made. They go between the modules heatsink and working surface. I leave the lens done up and adjust it for depth and width using the precise distance to shift the focal point as required for the job at hand. Having a known reference makes it easier to get very consistent results but it does depend on software profiles and your particular module.

      Hello Ian Philip, thank you for your comment.
      Often times manufacturers and sellers are not emphasising the importance of maintenance, they advertise their machines plug and go so as to minimize the risk of losing sales.
      People who don't really like messing around with technicality are more likely to skip the checkout if they mention it :).
      Besides, they earn if the machine fails sooner as you may simply go ahead and buy a new piece.
      Ciao

      Hello Jurica Martinčević, thank you for your comment.
      The NEJE A40640 is a fixed focus module, therefore the lens should be shrewd all in.
      Just give it a slight twist with a flat head screwdriver without putting much torque otherwise you may end up cracking the lens.
      Ciao

    Hello, I have an atomstack A5 40W, connected to my Mac and working with lightburn, it only has 2 months of use and it lost the power of the laser, it does not automatically connect to the program or anything, the jobs that I used to cut in 2 passes 500mm/mn and 90% no longer do even triple that. The laser light is barely visible and cleans it up and everything. What can be done to make it work properly again? I hope your help, thank you very much

      Hello Janai Arzola, thank you for your comment.
      I am sorry to hear that.
      There are a few things to check before coming to a conclusion.
      1) Power Settings in the GRBL config, it is not likely, but with me, using multiple devices got messed up. Go to Edit > Device Settings under "Other Option" and make sure that the "S-value Max" is set to 1000, then check the same under Edit > Machine Settings > $30 Max Spindle Speed and make sure it is set to 1000 too.
      2) Check that the actual power settings sent to the machine is right. To do that, draw a simple line to send for engraving and set its power to 100%, than before to send it for engraving, go to the console tab, and toggle on the "show all", this will allow you to see how the gcode parser behaves i.e., all the set of codes truly streamed to the machine. Once ready, send the engraving as if it was regular engraving (put some material under the laser) and check the first couple of lines of gcode, you should see something like "G01 x4.36 y2.12 s1000 f500" we need to be sure that the "s" is followed by the 1000 or whichever power value you set for the layer (times ten).
      3) Have you tried another software e.g. LaserGRBL? This would exclude a software issue.

    Never run these over 80%. Preferably 65% ideally. These units are miniature and not cooled by air/cryo. Cleaning the lens is small fries in comparison to burning out the internals.

    • @MiddleRoomWorkshop
      @MiddleRoomWorkshop  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello CrazyManer, thank you for your comment.
      Normally laser diodes tend to die over time, the typically cheap one offers a lifespan of no more than 2000 hours of operation, and there is not much that can be done to regain power.
      Anyhow, let me first understand if something did not change in the meantime; Which software are you using, If you use LightBurn (or LaserGRBL less common) the max power settings might have changed in the GRBL settings.
      What kind of material have you been engraving the most, or are you using some aluminium plat under your cuttings?
      Reflective materials usually send back harmful light to the optics and the diode itself damages it, In luckier cases it is just the last lens to get damaged, but not all the maker are selling spare lenses.

      @@MiddleRoomWorkshop hello thank you so much for responding, i dont have reflective workbed, i was cutting mostly MDF board 3mm thick, with air support from little hailea compressor, it is original neje laser, and i was using lightburn the whole time, i was not using it that much, so im bit surprised that the diode died after not that much using, holla

    • @MiddleRoomWorkshop
      @MiddleRoomWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello CrazyManer, thank you for your feedback.
      There are a few things that you may check, paraphs you did already but is worth mentioning them.
      1. Have you noticed problems, with the focus, do your engraving lines come wider or darker? If so try to check whether the lens did not come loose (the only one that you can access) and tighten it.
      2. Power Settings in the GRBL config, it is not likely but with me, usingng multiple devices got messed up. Go to Edit > Device Settings under "Other Option" make sure that the "S-value Max" is set to 1000, then check the same under Edit > Machine Settings > $30 Max Spindle Speed and make sure it is set to 1000.
      After the above continue with the following
      Have you tried a different software since you notice the power loss? if not try with LaserGRBL so we can discard the problem with LightBurn.
      If it is a NEJE Machine, try to install their software and try also engraving something to see if you see any difference in the power output. NEJE uses a different approach but this should at least let us figure out if is not the GRBL Chipset on the board.
      Let me know if you get any results.
      If all the above are not going well the only thing left to do is to measure the power output of the laser, but that won't be easy without the measuring tool which will cost almost as much as a new module.
      Ciao

      Hi, Paweł Czerniawski; thank you for your comment.
      Are you using air assist? If that is the case, your compressor or air pump is sending condensed water to the lens, which obstructs the laser and effectively lowers its power.
      If that is not the case, we should investigate the power input or mainboard.
      Let me know

      Hi Merrill Albury, thank you for your comment.
      Yes, you can definitely use canned air, and a soft toothbrush, but the lens has to end up with a proper cleaning solution for lenses because the stains if any will lower the power.
      I hope it helps

    Should never touch the ends of the cotton tips with your fingers and then touch the lens with them. Your putting oils from fingers onto the cotton. May be slight, but should get in habit to minimize all contaminants. Frequent cleaning if doing alot of cutting.

    That neie unit ends up with multiple focus spots even after cleaning

    • @MiddleRoomWorkshop
      @MiddleRoomWorkshop  Před rokem +1

      Hi, Bruce's Laserwurks; thank you for your comment;
      The reason for having multiple spots can be from damage to the lens either scratches or burns. However, if you mean two spots, that could also be a misalignment of the diodes or lenses inside the module, which may be a factory defect (therefore had to be there since it always) or following an impact (perhaps if it ever dropped to the ground).
      To exclude the second opinion, dismantle the outer lens and check if you still get multiple spots.
      In case the problem is just on the outer lens, you could replace it very easily.
