Hint: Any time you have one bad part causing a problem and the suggestion is to replace 4 parts, start being suspicious. Nice vid !

i have a 4.2tdi which had a same issue .When key was removed MMI was not turning OFF and FOB was not working.bought a used Ignition switch from a 3.0tdi Q7 .Swapped the Ignition Switch barrels. So i used my barrel on the other control board .fitted it the same way this guy is explaining .there is another video about this somewhere. With mine i saw one of the micro switch had a broken plunger ..it was showing IGNITION. LOCK on dash...After swapping and no coding its working FOB and MMI switches off when key is removed now. Thanks for the writeup.

Audi great cars, but the dealers don't no a thing about there own cars... I had a overheating problem with my car and they started to charge bunch of things after I was telling them to check if there could be a crack in my cilinder head, but everything was OK whit it. It coasted me 5500€ and the car was not even fixt.. it was "unfixable" I replaced de cilinderheads and the problem was fixt! Simple diagnostic was to hard.. service of audi dealer in Belgium is worthless. Good that there are people like you that take te time to give a explanation how you fixt it ! Thanks for that! 💪🤟

good explanation i am a audi/volkswagen technician i cant believe they told you u needed all the 4 door lock/unlock switches the problem is always this switch is called E415 ignition switch and bcz the car is equipped with access start module j518 that module by seeing that fault for thr lock switch present wont allow door to lock or unlock bcz at this point with the bd switch it doesnt know wich position the key is thus wont know when to lock unlock doors for safety .

How do you explain mmi not turning off?

Hi. I have audi a8 d3 4e and I'm really stuck. Car will not start, no ignition at all. Done the usual new battery etc checked fuses relays etc I removed fron carpets to check for water damage to both modules that are sat in the floors in front footwells, there was water present but modules luckily had no signs of water damage as water was not that high, all connections dry and appear to be ok.
I scanned with snap on diagnostics and failed to communicate, I had Auto Electrician also come and and he had the same. He said he would come back and also return week later with more info etc and when weather was warmer. He then called and said he was 99% sure it was my ignition lock which was stuck and I needed to release this and then my ignition would come on and my car would start. How can I release this without communicating, I understand if the motor had failed it won't release. Feel like it's a different issue if my car is not communicating. He used vcds and still couldn't communicate.
My hazard lights work, interior lights, also break lights.
Nothing in dash unless hazards are on, parking brake light and mileage displays.
Randomly the centre displays lights up and states, 'move selector to p position', also sometimes the central locking works via key fob or button on door, sometimes electric seats move. I have nothing when I turn my key. Turn lights on with door open I get bleeping sound to let me know my lights are on.
Any help would be appreciated as I feel like he is just guessing and don't want to spend time and money fixing the steering problem to find out its not that.
      TIA

Thank you for this video! I am having an issue with my Q7 4.2 FSI. MMI doesn't turn off, when I remove the key. Sometimes it does, but usually doesn't. Column lock is replaced so I think that the problem is the ignition barrel. I will try to replace it. Hope that your advices will help me. I will post if I manage to fix it :)

*Just had this happen on my 2014 Q7 TDI. Was T-Boned on the left side so both doors came off plus some structural damage. When I did my walk around, the start button was not working. While troubleshooting I could hear "click, click click" in the rear door tweeter. I had someone else push the button while I held my ear to the tweeter. I could clearly hear 3 fast clicks.
I then turned on music and did NOT hear any music coming from the same tweeter. Music worked fine on all other speakers. I removed door panel and sure enough they misconnected FOB antenna and tweeter. The connection are different colors but the same small two pin connection. Easy to make the mistake. Swapped them and problem solved. Everything works now 100%!
Here is the video I used to removed panel.
