    It took me months, but I can finally play this shuffle all the way through without completely running out of breath or forgetting what comes next. II am in awe of Will's ability to move between the single, often bent notes and the vamping chords in the lip pursing style. I have to tongue block it. Thanks, Will,.for a challenging and worthwhile blues harmonica lesson in the style of Big Walter Horton..

      Frankly, I don’t know how Will does that comping rhythm with only lip pursing. I learned how to tongue block just to do the style of comping Will is teaching hear. Amazing. Will is a phenom.

    Been watching harp players for ages and decided to give it a go myself and of all the lessons on CZcams I find yours the easiest to follow and your ego doesn't run away with you like some other players who are supposed to be teaching but are really just showing off. There's no crap with you either and that's always a bonus. You go strait to it. Thanks Will for all your efforts and for sharing your gifts with us .

    I took me over a year to master the shuffle comping vamp, but it was worth all the frustration to get there. Getting it to swing requires a lot of practice. But, I'll say it again, it's worth it. That shuffle feel on the harp can get a crowd moving. To really get in the pocket, I recommend using a drum machine during practice after you get the notes happening.

      practice with a metronome…or drum machine…or a jam track. It really helps get that rhythm solid. It’ll make all your playing more in the pocket, too. Will breaks this comp down very concisely. No over-explaining.

    Hi Will, when you vamp and blow a note, ie: the B6 B4, etc in Lesson #10, do you also blow the chord to the single note? I thought, when vamping, the chord played, follows the single note played! I couldn't see how you played those particular notes while vamping! Thank you, for your super lessons.

    hello and thanks again for the great lessons. I was wondering what percentage of your playing, especially in front of live audiences, is tongue-blocked and how much is lip pursed. I have read more than once that tongue blocked players automatically have better tone. Do you think that's true?

    • @willharmonicawilde
      @willharmonicawilde  Před 9 lety +2

      TalkingPoints1 Personally, I play lip pursed all the time. I only use my tongue for octaves and effects. You certainly get a DIFFERENT tone tongue blocked, I wouldn't say it's necessarily better though. It depends what kind of sound you want.

      Although I am using a Bb harmonica I am actually playing in the key of F. 2nd position means you are using Draw 2 (F in this case) as your root note instead of Blow 1 (Bb)- which would be 1st position. Around 90% of blues harp that you hear is played in 2nd position.
