    Hi Everyone, I hope you are all fit and well. It's been a madly busy month here, but all good. I love how this soap came out, which was great for me as I was tight on time squeezing it in. I hope you like it too. If you're interested in buying the scraper or some Halloween themed extruder discs they're available in the shop now. www.idreaminsoap.co.uk/
    The September release with lots of lovely new soaps (including some fab Haloween soaps) will be on 15th September, worldwide shipping available with delivery to the USA ( that's where you're located) only taking 1 week.

      So I was looking at web site.fo you need a special tool for the small plastic soap designs. Could I make long length for whole loaf as well small. You mention a fima -that what i’d use. Also do you give a soap dough recipe to use w them?. One last question, on the designs, like wave and zigzag, have you found they work or look better in tall and skinny or regular loaf size. So excited!!

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  Před 4 lety

      Hi Terri, I think you mean the extruders, yes you can use them to make long embeds, that's what I use mine for all the time. I don't have a specific soap dough recipe, I just use my own normal soap, make some up and sea it tight away from any air, then leave it for about 3-5 days (or more). The wave and zig zag can work well in both styles of loaf. I have made the zigzag scrapers for people with both styles and they all look great

    Love this! You have mentioned the assessment process before, but I think this was the first time I heard that it included colors. Really interested in learning more about the assessment process you have in the UK. All your videos are awesome and inspiring. :)

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  Před 4 lety

      Hi Kim, thank you so much. Yes the regulations are quite tough in the UK. We have to have any soap we make cosmetically assessed in the UK. We are allowed a base recipe which contains all our oils/lye etc and any thing you want in EVERY soap, this can not be changed in any way, the % have to stay the same, you have to include everything in every soap, you cannot change anything. Then you have variants, these are additions to your base, you are typically allowed 5 additions, so that will include your colours (each colour counts as 1 item) any fragrance oil, additives etc. You pay to have your base assessed and attach variants to it, you pay for each variant and once assessed you cannot change them, so if you had say black rasp vanilla with activated charcoal, a red mica, white mica, green mica, then that's it set you have to use those every time. Micas and fragrance oils must be named and linked to a supplier, so you can't for example get a black raspberry vanilla from someone else.
      The assessment even includes your packaging (which again you can't change)
      Any changes at all mean you have to create a new variant and pay for that to be assessed (even if you are just swapping a colour), if you want to make a change to your base then again you pay for that (more expensive than a variant).
      Once you have your assessments you, have to keep batch logs, product information files and good manufacturing documents on all soaps made, any ingredients used must be linked to the batch supplied by the supplier and you also have to keep MSDS sheets on all of them.
      Lot's of rules over labelling.
      Then before we can sell every product has to be listed on the 'Cosmetic Portal' you upload all the details, your safety assessments, answer a list of questions and also upload a copy of your label and a photo of the completed soap in it's packaging.
      I'm sure I've missed some things out, but that's basically it, so making the soap is the easy bit :-)

      Hi Tanya. Thank you so much. Yes the ability to make things is great, but you can still make scrapers with cardboard or plastic, I gave done so many times. The printed ones just last longer and enable you to reuse them. I do still think a lot af fabulous soaps can be made with just pouring techniques too.

I see a lot of people asking all sorts of questions in the UK facebook groups that I wouldn't really know the answer to as I haven't had to deal with those situations, so I would hate to do a video giving advice when I don't have wide enough knowledge to deal with questions and queries

    Hi Lisa--thanks SO MUCH for your wonderful videos. I always learn and get ideas form every single one.
    Question for you--and no need to answer if it's too detailed. I just got a 3d printer and am super excited for some scraper ideas (now including your brilliant ladder feature on the back!). I see you have a bit of an undercut in your design here (some of the next layer will flow under the previous; little overhangs in the layers) and I'm wondering how much you can get away with of that. There's probably not even a way to describe the answer but any hints are helpful! Or just keep doing what you're doing and I'll be grateful and fine with that.

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  Před 4 lety

      Hi Diane. Thanks for your lovely comment. I think you're referring to the fact that I am scraping slightly underneath and leaving a little roof. Generally as long as your batter is set enough that's fine, as long as your design has enough space built in to allow the excess batter to move up and be scraped away.
      Best wishes. Lisa

    Hi Lisa, you have inspired me to attempt a layered soap, I've not been doing cold process soap for very long and your videos have been invaluable to my progress. Just a quick question, how much of a water discount do you do? I'm happy with my cp main recipe and it's good for swirls and staying thin it's just something that I keep hearing people say on videos. I don't know if this is a factor but my recipe is olive oil pomace30%, babassu oil 25%, coconut oil 25%, castor oil 10%, then I vary the last 10% with either rice bran or avocado oil or grapeseed.

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  Před 4 lety

      HI Katrina. I typically work at 35.6% lye solution, which is about 25% oils to water. If you're happy with your recipe then stick with it. If you find it does move a bit quick at all it will be the olive pomace, that will speed up trace quite a bit, I find regular olive oil best (not extra virgin as it's too green). Best wishes.

    Great. Lisa. Being a lady of precision how do you work out your lye when you have to split it. Do you physically weigh the water and lye and divide by %?

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Christine. Because I master batch my lye I always weigh it out. I know how much lye I need for my recipe. When my lye is made up I know that the ratio of lye to oils I need is 1 lye to 2.53 oils. So what ever amount of oils I pour out (also master batched) I divide the weight of them by 2.53 and that tells me the amount of my lye solution needed.

      Hi Reem, thank you so much. There should be no reason that you cannot add more than one item many people order several things so it should be OK. If you did want anything else then by all means try again with another order (if that's not a pain) and I will combine the shipping and refund you for the excess as you would have paid shipping twice.

      Hi Jenette, sorry fo rthe late reply. Micas do mix in easier than pigments and oxides. I also find quite a few oxides bleed a bit. But I do use them as low rates if I need a certain colour. Neons are pigments, they don't bleed, but like the others you have to mix them really well to prevent getting any spots
