- Welcome to part 2 of our 1500 km Camino along the Via Podiensis - from Le Puy-en-Velay, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In this episode we explore the Aubrac Plateau and end in the Lot River Valley.
We started the Via Podiensis (Le Puy Camino or Chemin du Puy) on August 7, 2023, spending 28 days walking in France, arriving at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on September 3rd. From there, we continued on the Camino Frances, arriving in Santiago on September 29th.
This is our first time walking the Via Podiensis and our second time on the Camino Frances. We have hiked several other Camino routes in Spain including the Camino Primitivo (May 2023), Camino de Invierno (March 2023), the Camino del Norte (July 2019), and the Camino Frances (September 2017). We packed ultralight bags for all of our journeys.

Great videos. We're planning this route next year. Will definitely be taking our Trekking Umbrellas! Great to keep cool in the sun. 🙂
Thanks so much Rob! The sun umbrellas sound like a good addition.
Love your videos, too!
Hi folks. We've only just discovered your channel, having decided to begin researching this route over the past weekend, so apologies for coming late to your party. We're loving the vlogs so far and feel a binge coming on😊 Best wishes from Ireland💚💚
PS We completed our Camino Frances last Sept. from Logroño to Santiago, having walked to there from SJPDP in Apr. 2022
Thanks so much for watching and welcome to the family! Sounds like the Via Podiensis is in your future... :)
Finished my first Camino (Portuguese) the same day you finished this one! Enjoying seeing options for the future. Thx
Wow!! That's amazing. We hope you had a wonderful time.
A bowl of coffee sounds lovely! (mugs are too small)
HAHAHA. That's so true.
I love your channel! Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Love you guys
Thank you ♥♥
We stayed at the same place at Quatre Chemin. The next day we say the most amazing spider webs. I loved Aubrac, so beautiful. Some of those decents were rediculous, I thought it was just me. Walking up, down, up, down = France
That's awesome. We loved our stay there. And the spider morning (while creepy) was one of the most beautiful mornings we've ever hiked.
Up and down for sure! Definitely not just you, so steep!
Just found your channel. Love the energy and edit of your story telling. Will have to go back and watch your previous Caminos. Buen Camino!
Thank you so much!
Love that Lainey's fall was the intro of this video 😄 Oh schadenfreude or as we say in Sweden skadeglädje.
Hahaha. It had to be. 🤣
We used to put crackers or bread in our bowl of coffee as a kid when I was in Italy and France. Did you book your gites ahead of time? Doing the camino Frances in Spain, I didn't have to book anything, but I was told you had to book ahead for the Camino de Puy. Can you tell me?
Love the bowls! We booked all our gites a few weeks ahead for the section until Conques. After that, we booked 2-4 days ahead of time.
Ugh....that's too hot! I start melting right around 23C 🥵 I think I'll do the Camino in November 😅 It looks like this goes through some really interesting villages, though.
Yeah, too hot for us too! The villages were gorgeous!
I’m so scared of the damn snakes. That’s why I prefer the 🚴 bikes. 🥃
They were super scary!!!
So far this route looks much prettier than the Camino Frances in Spain. hmmm
The Via Podiensis avoids all major cities, so by default, you're never on highways around the cities.... which makes the route feel so much nicer.
16:45 feet 😍😍😍
Haha. Shawn's. It was a good nap.
So how does the medical system work in Spain? Is it like the United States where all the doctors are pretty much used car salesmen with 5 minutes of medical talk and 55 minutes of upselling? Can you go bankrupt in Spain if you need surgery? Somehow I feel your answer isn't going to make me feel better about being where I am...
Spanish citizens have universal healthcare. There's also private healthcare that is a fraction of the cost of US plans. Medical debt is not a thing here.
