Basically, Ei fears progress and wants Inazuma to stay the same because she's afraid her nation is going to be the next Khaenri'ah.
its a good point, in addition to her story quest where she has to face the fact that inazuma has already begun changing out of her control- yae referred to the isolation period as ei's "tantrum" and it actually resembles the japanese origin story following the goddess izanami who went into a period of isolation in a cave and had to be persuaded outside by the other gods (if i'm recalling the legend correctly)
*got confused between izanami and izanagi, both are credited as the "original" gods or something along those lines

With telling the story of Baal they did excellent on the art style which mainly focuses on the Japanese art style
The art is good. The story build is good. Just how she stopped the vision hunt still feel a bit rushed. Should make the story quest even longer and proper story instead of the talk jutsu and done with it

Props to Anne Yatco for this AMAZING performance. You can clearly feel the sadness and pain by the way she delivers the lines here. It’s also amazing how she switches from Ei to Raiden Shogun throughout the whole archon quest.
This and Kazuha’s story teaser about his friend are the most heartfelt ones imo. They’re such good and talented VAs.
Ei's quest was honestly a nice balance of both wholesomeness and self-reflection for her. sure people want her to know the consequences of her actions, but surely she must've known that people will be hurt by the vision hunt decree when she implemented it, the question was simply how? how could she know the way she hurt them if she doesn't even understand their views?
the quest was about bringing her out and showing her the change that happened to Inazuma, to rethink her thoughts of "eternity", an eternity that will help her people instead of a one sided-view that resulted in the vision hunt decree. the quest was to let her know her people's views, to understand their views is important in order to know how she hurt them, that understanding is important for her before she can truly redeem herself
i can see why people may not like her quest, it can be viewed as a date/hangout, but at the same time can be viewed as the bridge to understanding her and the people of inazuma, and thus a less tense quest is needed
zhongli's(his first quest atleast) and venti's quest are different because we only know their casual side prior to it, we knew them as mortal first before knowing them as an archon, they're more like spectators in their quest, yet still letting us know their godly side and how they rule their respective nations. meanwhile we knew Ei as an archon first before we know her casual/mortal side, and thus her quest reflect on that by letting us know that side of her we didn't see in the archon quest
tl:dr, it is absolutely necessary for a casual hangout like this for her quest in order to know her beyond her role as an archon, while allowing her to understand her people and eventually know how she hurt them and apologise for what happened

You described it perfectly, I'm tired of people looking at Ei, Yoimiya, and Ayaka's story quest as simply date/hangout story quests. All three had really beautiful hidden meanings underneath them.
It's so frustrating that a lot of people misunderstood Ei.
No she isn't selfish or narcissistic, that's how the commissions framed her by acting as if she was the mastermind. She truly thought that her actions would benefit Inazuma.
No she isn't uncaring to the people, she is ignorant because the commissions covered up all the crises that occurred, including the civil war, Yashiori island and Mikage Furnace.
No, she didn't collude with the Fatui, she didn't see them as a threat because she didn't know the full extent of their actions like playing both sides in the war and distributing delusions.
And finally, her rule over Inazuma has gone quite well for centuries, it is only until a year ago when all the problems occurred due to her complacency in her subjects.

Venti: After the death of the nameless bard, he took his form and created a beautiful nation of freedom because that's the world he wanted his friend to live in.
Zhongli: After the death of Guizhong he used the wisdom she taught him to build a prosperous nation, where humans could be safe like she wished. In the funeral for himself he still uses her favorite flower.
Ei: After the death of her sister she isolated herself and tried to achieve Eternity so no one would suffer the losses she did. She gave up the idea of progress because she wanted her people to be safe.
But freedom is not without cost. Human beings are social animals. If every ant only cares about their own freedom, the ant race will soon perish

I don't see why people see her character quest as a date while I think it's more like her trying to understand her people more. She went around and tried to update herself with the current situation and become a better ruler, just like what Yae and Traveler wants. It's not like she can redeem herself immidiately but what is dethroning her gonna do other than making it easier for the Fatui to conquer Inazuma?
This. These comment section make me so pissed, like literally one comment said when are we getting better quest to explore her past and not something like a dating or a hangout quest with the Shogun. That comment had over 200 likes. They failed to understand the main moto behind the quest. The Shogun exploring her "new" Inazuma, and to know "Change isn't inevitable". These people smh, Jesus Christ it's just 2.1 update. Maybe wait for a couple more updates, to see what they have in for us.

Yeah, even though it was a date. The subtle message of the story quest was there. Ei was beginning to slowly but surely accept that change is inevitable and that she should move forward with her people. That duel with Kamaji pretty much seals the deal that her story quest was more than just a "date" or a "hangout" with her. Hopefully Mihoyo doesn't mess up her story when they release her other story quests because as it is, she has a nice arc going for her.
true, i agree. in the quest, she came up with newer perspectives that she won't be acceptable of if she just stayed in that plane of euthymia of hers, at least a development right there. it's only a matter of time if we'll see the improvement in inazuma once she arrives in a new way to rule it. tbh, i don't even understand why they keep calling these story quests "dates" when they're so full of the featured character traits. it somewhat lessens or overshadows the importance of the depth that can be found there.

I like how there is such a distinct change between the Raiden Shogun and Ei. Ei's voice is more emotional and warm, while the shogun 's voice almost has an echo or empty quality to it. Yet still the same VA😯 you can just hear the switch at 01:25

So technically Ei’s considered to be part of the original seven who won the Archon war because she and Makoto fought as one being during that time, but Makoto became the first official Electro archon who possessed the gnosis while Ei continued to work in the shadows until Makoto’s death.
Technically both were archons, one was holding gnosis and was actual ruler. However, Ei was the one fighting and defending Inazuma+ being political bait, so both had crucial roles.
Essentially yeah, so Ei would be just as old as the other original Archon's since she even said she participated in Zhongli's tea parties.

Baal, aka Makoto (the previous Electro Archon) wields a sword but never fights (the first time the sword is used in battle is after Makoto dies when Ei uses it). Beel, aka Ei, the Archon we know now, wields a polearm and would fight as Baal on the front lines of war since Makoto doesn't fight. That's what Ei/Yae mean when they say Ei acted as Makoto's shadow. When Baal died, Ei took up the position of Electro Archon but never announced that Baal died to the mortals of Inazuma, so Inazuma still thinks they have had one Electro Archon since the Archon War.

Alot of people don't know this but Orobashi was slain using the polerarm and not the sword (Mussou Icchin). During Orobashis attack; Makoto was alive and well ; however she had business affairs to attend to leaving ei to deal with Orobashi. The mussou Icchin (Makotos sword/Booba sword) was only passed to Ei when Makoto died. We also see Ei in this trailer Infront of Orobashi with her Polerarm ( The engulfing lightning)
and alot of people don't know that he got killed by an order from celestia because he read the info in the the book of before sun and moon and realized that celestia are from another world who tookover teyvat

The atmosphere, the rising intensity of the music and her sad yet powerful tone fits together perfectly. Had to rewatch this a couple times to get what was going on when Makoto died. It seems like they helped to attack Khaenri’ah with the Unknown God, but Makoto fell. Khaenri’ah had progressed, and that’s why the Unknown God destroyed them. Therefore, Ei wanted to keep Inazuma from progressing to keep her nation safe from the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. So I feel like we’ll see Ei again when we get to Khaenri’ah.
makoto died in the abyss war every nation faced the unknown god, la signoras backstory is that her lover died in the abyss war where unknown god attacked mondstat and became witch of crimison lol
Now that Liyue is driven by the people without the oversight of Rex Lapis, I wonder if it’s progressed enough, whether the Unknown God will strike it down or not. I guess the Unknown God hates industry :)))
@@hieulaivu5760 well, it seems to problem is that Khaenri’ah denounced all gods, which was against the Heavenly Principles. So now that Liyue has no god, she might try to destroy it. Though more likely than not, the Unknown God might attack Zhongli himself, since the people of Liyue had nothing to do with breaking the Heavenly Principles. They didn’t denounce their god, their god died. And really, I’m sure the Unknown God has some beef with the Fatui since they’re stealing Gnoses and severed Venti’s ties to Celestia.
As a lore enthusiast. I knew all of this already. Minus Makoto defending. Lol but yeah. It's weird how everyone is discussing this stuff now when it's been known that khanerea has been smited for advancement.
Nah I think makoto died to abyssal entities because in her teaser makoto was the last to go. Her teaser also mentioned that makoto's death is what ultimately changed her, which implies that she was the last one who died. Before her, Saiguu and Chiyo were already fighting the abyss after kheanriah's destruction. We also know that every region and probably their archon seriously struggled with the abyssal invasion (zhongli had a rough time, he lost a ton of soldiers and adepti; mondstadt is still dealing with the problem)

After Raiden's Act II, it is interesting to see the imagery that appears knowing what we know now. At about 0:35, Ei speaks about how she "even lost her," and a drop of what appears to be blood sprouts into the Thunder Sakura, which she then says "The tales are still retold in the shade of every Thunder Sakura." I wonder if this imagery is intended and planned, or if it was simply a beautiful coincidence.

As someone who doesn't care about the meta.. getting 1 shot characters ( even though I try sometimes ), being competitive and getting full stars in abyss, also not buying primogems, only battlepass and welkins (mostly because I'm broke lmao). I find this game extremely interesting.. to me it is not only a place for me to pleasure myself by playing for hours.. but also a place to learn morals from different types of people. Genshin is one of those games.. for example, I learned in Liyue while talking to Zhongli about the true importance of travelling is not out destination.. but the people and stories we hear along the way. And in Inazuma.. about eternity.. is that even if we try to stay the way we are right now.. how comfortable our life is, change is inrvitable and it will come.. so either prepare yourself for change in the future.. or be caught off guard by sudden change. The Inazuma part alone made me rethink my life decisions.. I am a game addict and for so long I've neglected my responsibilities, hoping that I could just play forever.. however that is not the case. One day, my family will die, no longer will they be able to support me.. so while they are still alive, I should focus on my responsibilities first.
I'm glad you learned lessons while also enjoying yourself. You make very true and clever points, especially about how life is not an Unchanging Eternity.
Keep up the good work, and always look for the best in things. Wishing you a happy and prosperous life. While Life may be Transient, the moments within are Eternal.

Agreed for the most part. I’m not exactly sure what happened 500 years ago in Kh’aenriah (no clue how to spell it) but it also seems like that nation went against the heavenly principles and because of this, the course of history changed. I think that the heavenly principles forced the current archons to choose between the destruction of one nation or the destruction of their respective nations which is why all the archons we have met so far have been so unwilling to talk about it… Our next stop is Sumeru so at least we’ll get to learn more about the past as it is the nation of wisdom. at first i didn't really dig raiden's VA (probably bc i didn't like raiden in general), but then 2.1 came out and i freaking love her voice! it's such a hard line to play between strict/commanding to warm and naive. also the fact we never got honkai impact to english dub, so this is as close as fans are going to get to hearing a "dub" until future notice.

Anne Yatco did such an amazing job voice-acting as Ei and Raiden Shogun. Her acting is one of the many reasons why I instantly liked the shogun back at Chapter 2 Act 2. The way that Ei is soft and the shogun is intimidating is an amazing range. I always shiver whenever the shogun talks huhu

Someone over at Bilibili noticed that the Raiden Shogun has both Ei's and Makoto's designs in her: Ei's short sleeve on her right, Makoto's long sleeve on her left, and her headpiece a combination of the two.
Also Ei seems to have placed her consciouness in Makoto's katana. I had wished that her story quest brushed up about the deeper sides to her persona more 😢
I love the build up of the story getting to Khaenriah. The story of each land tells the tale of eruption due to time, and becomes prominent subject for Inazuma's Archon. Which then proceeds to unfold the tale of a God that wishes eternity. For it is the only path to bring everything to stillness and never to be affected by said eruption.

I find this video to be too coincident with all the balancing fiasco and game mechanics inconsistency issue. I just feel like they release this to divert attention away from the mess the coding team and balancing team made.

i think its because of what happened to khaenri'ah.. Khaenri'ah progressed well and they did not rely to a god. Maybe this angered the unknown god thing who is the sustainer of the heavenly principles. Ei saw this and it may have traumatized her.

Ok. I am clearing this once and for all. There are two sister goddesses with Electro powers. The elder one is Raiden Makoto (Baal) and the younger one is Raiden Ei (Beelzebul). 'Raiden' is a title used by both, which means 'Thunder And Lightning', which is a reference to their Electro powers. Both fought in the Archon War together. At the end of the War, Raiden Makoto ascended to Celestia to assume the divine seat, gnosis and title of the Electro Archon. She then established the Inazuman Shogunate and became the Shogun. Raiden Ei, on the other hand, became her 'Kagemusha (Shadow Warrior/Body Double)' to assist her in matters of warfare. Administrative matters were in the hands of Makoto. After Makoto's death, Ei inherited 2 things from her:- (i) The post of the Electro Archon. (ii) The post of the Shogun. But because she was so devastated by her sister's demise, she did not feel like ruling Inazuma herself. She created a puppet (The Shogun) to take care of the Shogunate's daily affairs. She herself retired to the Plane Of Euthymia, which is an extension of her own consciousness. This plane of her own consciousness and she herself are contained within the sword, Musuo Isshin, which is in tuned contained within the Shogun, who uses it when necessary. Now, due Ei's reclusive lifestyle and Makoto' active social life, the people of Inazuma are only familiar with Makoto/Baal. They do not know about Ei/Beelzebul. They think Baal is still alive as Beelzebul did not inform them of her death. As they are twins, the people thought there is only one Shogun who rules Inazuma. Ei, thanks to her solitary character, couldn't care less about such trivial matters and continues to keep the people uninformed about this. Hence the people continue to use the name 'Baal' for their Archon even though she is dead and it is Ei (Beelzebul) who is the current Archon. Moreover, the title of the 'Raiden Shogun' applies to Raiden Makoto, Raiden Ei and the Shogun (Puppet), even though the puppet (The Shogun) does not have the title of 'Raiden', which only belongs to the two sisters. So like, (this is just my observation and a few minutes of googling so take it with a load of salt)
I just noticed Makoto had a wisteria motif in her design and Ei had morning glory in hers.
Both flowers symbolise love, beauty,... but the notable difference was that wisteria symbolises longevity while morning glory symbolises mortality.
Makoto perished while Ei kept on living, which is ironic and sad

Yes. IIRC the reason Khaenriah was destroyed by Celestia because the nation was progressed way too advance. I forgot the detail whether it was due to Khaenriah people being too arrogant from being way advanced despite having no god ruling over them, or it was solely because Celestia deemed them dangerous. Thus Ei decided Inazuma to be forever unchanging to protect her people from Khaenriah fate.
By gaining nothing, you lose nothing, and so she will not have to feel pain anymore, and Inazuma will exist as a nation forever. But as Miko said, a nation that does not progress and stays in stasis will be but an empty shell, and who would really care for a nation like that? Who would turn their heads if a country like that falls?

These two lines tell everything. How Ei lost so many things, so many people close to her thanks to progress and after Khaenri'ahs destruction she fears that one day Inazuma will be destroyed as well because of it. So she believes only with eternity can she protect her nation..

Finally I have my answers, I was wondering all these time when Teppei said that Raiden Shogun killed Oroboxi during the Archon War when Zhongli said only Venti and him are the ones left from the first 7 archons that won the seats from the archon war. So I was thinking how come Teppei said that the current Raiden Shogun live and even killed the serpent god during the Archon War... now it makes so much sense when you finished the story and learn more about her past.

It is pretty interesting. Just from the description of Makoto she probably died trying to defend Khaenri'ah or something. Ei saw how futile fighting the sustainer was and decided to keep Inazuma in stasis to make sure it doesn't progress as much as Khaenri'ah
But "Sustainer of heavenly principles" and losing someone due to "heavenly principles" are two different things. It was never confirmed that Asmoday (Sustainer of heavenly principles real name) killed Ei, even tho she was involved in Khaenri'ah destruction

It could be the other way around,maybe makoto was helping the unknown god as the other archons would have done,in order to not goes against heavenly principles, because they feared to drag their own nations towards the same disaster, perhaps first the archons were called to destroy Khaenri'ah, but two died in the attempt due to the great power of this nation, then the sustainer of the heavenly principles came in person to deal with the problem
This hits different after Ei’s second story quest
