- I was invited recently to participate in this year's creator fair, and was able to collaborate with many talented artists & animators to create this work.
Aired at Hoyofair Global & CN on September 24, "Dreams in Eternal Reminiscence" is a full-fledged animated short exploring the past life of the Raiden Shogun and the meaning of impermanence to an eternal being. One of several independently-produced shorts at the creator fair, this animation was only made possible with the help of our art and animation team!

The cut to her alone during the fireworks and everything after that destroyed me. This is beautiful
yess it was so beautiful
IT MADE ME CRY SO HARD + THE MUSIC MADE IT BETTER AT THAT PART
It’s very heartbreaking….
2:09 and after
Beautiful untill Inazuma faced disaster in a row. Both internally and externally (archon war), What's even sadder is Ei had to face it all alone.
It's no less sad than the story of Kazuha, Xiao, Venti, and even Rosaline (Signora). The sweet thing Raiden did was, bring together Rosaline to Rostav faster. 😂
I only wish Inazuma had shown us more of this
yup, what a missed opportunity
@@hayabusahithosi9587 not a missed opportunity we can always call this a looming opportunity for the future
hopefully the anime covers this!
It wasn't relevant at the time because of the decree~ We may see this after things have finally calmed down~
Its so sad how they butchered Inazuma so bad. It could have been better. Especially the Archon Quest but it's too late now.
This short animation portrayed Ei's past, happiness, anxiousness.. loneliness..and depression so well... 👏👏👏 Thank you for giving us this amazing work ❤️
Indeed, can’t wait to see this portrayed in the anime as well
and PAIN 😭
Good thing aether is here for our raiden

It was a pleasure dubbing this amazing piece of art, truly beautiful ❤️
I don't know if it was intended or if it's just me because my head simply expects his voice for this kind of character video but I got a really strong Dainsleif vibe from the narration. It added so much to the beautiful art and animation, fantastic work!

Eternity is far too cruel a fate for you, Ei...
Fuck.... That hurts like hell, but it's an amazing piece of work, you guys really portrayed Ei's past with all her sorrow and sadness marvelously, holy shit, when her song started I was crying my eyes out...

What i love abt Ei is despite her identity as an Archon, somehow i feel close with her. Bcs how is she dealing or feel grieve is so human..
Yeah she barely feels like a God. It's good and bad at the same time
well, she is just a super soldier and kagemusha before become an archon
@@RA-ux3fu pure good god, but don't understand her people cuz Kujou clan hide people desires to her.
@@anhquocpham6513 pure dumb god* who likes to cause everyone around her problems because she is too emotional
Exactlyyyy
2:25 hits so hard... She is the goddess with responsibility for the whole nation, yet in this vast country, despite everyone worshipping her, she is all alone. She has everything, though the only thing she wishes for is gone.
I also realized that she could have locked herself up not in search of eternity, but due to depression
Gods are emotionally constipated cuz they were never children they just become with no explanation
Yae: Am I a joke to you ?
yes, yes she is 😌/hj@@gdgetsceb4115
This made her hate Celestia so much that she ended herself to escape the authority of the gnosis placed upon her… that is why she does not have a physical body anymore, and relies on the shogun puppet…
Such a sad story for Ei, honestly.
Ei smiling then sobbing alone hits deep. Damn.
Also, Ei can just create a new circle of friends with Yae, sara and itto right?
Yes, but the happiness she had with her old friends will never come back, and she also can't forget that she couldn't do anything to save her old friends
She also doesn't know who itto is
Better bet of creating new circle of friends with archons. They seem sturdier
i'm not sure she wants to try another time, the first time already drove her mad at the point to make his own people suffer from her actions
@@abyssmage6979 xD
I really like the style that was put in this video. The way, that this was crafted from multiple freelancer is absolutely astounding! Also, we finally have an extended perspective from Ei's side about the events happened in the past.
same for me. This might be the video that i like to watch multiple times.

2:07 this moment kills me how it shows the current Ei still put out 4 extra cups of hot tea for her sister and her friends everyday, cause she couldn't let go of the past.
Even she is a bad ruler, but this animation perfectly tells us how 'human' she are. An immortal girl who just want to live as normal warrior, sister and friend. All her friends died from 'war' and fast progression can bring war or get same fate as king deshret ,so she freeze everything. Sadly, her action brought war too
Ei whas't really bad, it's just the pain AND fear of that happen again AND make Raiden Shogun to rule Inazuma AND closet herself for her eternity. Baybe her actions made the región in a civil war. But she esa doing what she believe it's right for her.
But Celestia killed Orobashi and brought the civil war, blame Celestia duh
@@saracchi1515 but they don't know it was celestia's fault, they believe it was some like a plague that become crazy to Orobashi just like what happen with Chiyo AND others, AND Ei just was protecting Inazuma before Orobashi destroy there AND she do what believe it was correct to protect everyone.
Wait what She is not a bad ruler
She are?!
"to wish that this moment will last"
That line break me, Ei is the god of enternity, and having the power to make HER life enternal just to rule inazuma for internity, but not having the ability to make a moment enternal just for her happiness.
ei's backstory is one of the best and darkest compared to all the archons. losing not just friends, allies even family and having her nation almost destroyed.
You don't even know the other archons backstories how can you make such a claim?
-losing friends allies family
-nation almost destroyed
bruh thats literally every archon story dawg💀
@@poophead8188 I don't think Venti or Zhongli have a dead sister/brother. Blood related siblings being dead hits much harder than those you consider families but aren't blood related.
@@eightyeight2379 i mean, just because a person don't have the same blood of you, doesn't mean their relationship with you couldn't be stronger than the one that have it. As rosaria said, blood relations is overrated anyway. What matter is bond, not what inside your blood. Like, venti's friend and zhongli's friends obviously very important to them. Im not saying ei is stupid for being sad about her sister's death. Im saying that's literally every archon backstory. People precious to them die, they sad.
venti still have andrius and dvalin, zhongli still has many adepti. ei has all her friend and her only family died. the only one she has is yae miko
Now I understand how Osial felt.
.
This animation really hits as hard as the Jade Chamber.
Inazuma had the potential to surpass every story quest in genshin till this day but they kept it hidden in the lore....i wish there were more of this storyline of Ei and it would've been a masterpiece ....
Just because you don’t like to read doesn’t mean that they didn’t include it in the “story”. Not having a cutscene is not the same thing as not including something. Jfc. Weak.
This is exactly why i think inazuma's arc should have shown a lot more of deep lore on voiced missions, i mean, although what we get is pretty depressing in anyway, they lost the opportunity to represent the true lost of Ei, many people love her only for her game style or because of the memes, many others think she is ovrrated, and many others hate her because she is introduced to us as this, stuborn dangerous archon who seeks eternity even if it means killing whoever is on her way, but then the whole plot revolves on how we discover her most human side, and how the supposed eternity she has been searching all this time was just her way of grieving. I dont believe any archon has bigger problems or traumas than the others, but Ei's past feels like one of the most lonely ones, and thats why i lover her as a character too because she just feels so human, although i do not justify majority of her actions i do believe if people saw Ei as more than just the booba sword goddess, they would understand why she is the way she is
So true~ Most of the Raiden fans/likers only like her on the surface (appearance/gameplay), but very few of them truly accept, love and appreciate her as a character.
Yeah she’s done many wrongs and she’s flawed in so many ways, but so what? Is there a rule saying we should only prefer the perfect/best characters? Nah, I love Ei for who she is, and she doesn’t have to be the best archon/character for that💜
exactly
Indeed. Her die hard haters also see her on the surface. They act like they understand her whole character, yet they still can't even differentiate the very basis of her names
The proper scene placement, musical transition and fade into her loneliness and sadness , DAMN thats perfection and beauty hit well
I mean, there's a reason why Ei is so traumatized with Cataclysm that she want a perpetual, unending eternity. It's her fellow friend and their good memories together. She also doesn't want this tragedy happened to her people.
Ei by far is the most human character to me, just the fact that losing her friends and families scared her so bad it make her afraid to make new friends, cuts ties with old ones and shut her-self and her people off to the rest of the world and celestia so they'd never have to go through something like that, even tho it's a very unhealthy way to cope with trauma. She might have the power of a god but deep inside she is very much a human and a vulnerable one at that.
ei's past story was my most fav archon story so far. this animation made it greater. feeling emotional until it ends. kudos to all the team! ❤️
The way you potray the scenes (lightning, music etc.) makes it even more sad. I was in awe and got goosebumps watching it 😭😭😭
Thankyou for ur hardwork!!🥹
This sent literal chills down my spine the first time i saw it in the genshin fanart compilation. It still does it now.
Same here…
After the Hoyoverse I spent a while looking for this but couldn’t find it smh
FUCKKK!! THE FIREWORKS SCENE REALLY HIT ME SO HARDD😭😭 SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE HER A HUGGG!!
This is absolutely beautiful. Despite the popularity of Ei's character, I wasn't too interested nor invested in her character and story. This video, however, stood out to me the most during the entire livestream. This wasn't created with the best animation creators, but everything in the video (animation, colors, plot, narration, sfx, and especially the timing of the music) was so perfectly executed and captured the exact emotions of the story. I don't usually cry from medias, but the scene at 2:16 where it showed her being alone after the fireworks made me tear up a little bit. This is the first time genshin has made me this emotional, and the first time in awhile for medias in general.
Magnificent work from all of the creators. Every element in the video was perfect. Keep up the good work! :]
影が永遠を望んで仕方なかった理由が痛いほど伝わってくる…
そこに在ったものが無くなってしまった対比がどこまでも上手くて何度見ても泣いてしまう
すごすぎる表現力です…作って下さってありがとうございます。。
It's upsetting how such an emotional and relatable backstory didn't have any time to shine because how rushed the Archon Quest was. Now many people assume Raiden has the worst-written story.
It have two whole story quests dedicated to it, plus the backstory was the finale of the archon quests
Raiden's story kinda hits hard when you have a group of people you care about and don't ever dare to lose sight or contact of.
Honestly, this would make a great Character Teaser for Ei (though she already have one) or even a PV just like the one Ayaka and Ayato got.
what made this more sad is when you realise Ei is NOT A HUMAN.
We as humans are powerless and accept death as part of our life. but Ei is A GOD. not just any kind of god she is a GOD OF ETERNITY. and yet she cant keep her friendship eternal, she cant keep her relationship EVEN WITH ANOTHER GOD (her sister) eternal.
we humans accepts death because we ARE powerless in the face of it. but Ei is not. she is basically immortal unless killed intentionally. keeping your feelings and relationship eternal seems to be reachable as the god of eternity but she failed. thats why she blames everything on herself
This is why Ei is my favorite character in the game
The firework moment when she becomes completely alone makes my cry without fail every single time i rewatch this piece of art! There is something about the timing of narration and moment in music that is just squeezing my heart. Thank you
I've read the backstory of Orobachi and it's comrade too, they are just as beautiful and loving as Ei is. The Mouun sisters, the general that bath under the moonlight together with the sisters and the sacred magical whale. But all 5 of them all died in the war against Ei while Ei only lost her general Sasayuri. The other 3, which are Makoto, Chiyo and Saiguu all died at pretty much the same time because the Heavenly Principles wage war upon Khanrea. So I'm pretty sure when the MC fought against the Heavenly Principles, Ei will pretty much be the vanguard of the operation.
This is highly underrated, how this not having millions of views yet is mind baffling to me.
When u play games to escape from depression but your game also has depression
And I thought the fireworks scene was the peak of sadness and then saw the transition between thr buildings to the blood being spilled from each character was absolutely gut wrenching. What a beautiful video
Eternity without them is just a nightmare for her, and she has to go for it, because this belief is all she has left. She doesn't want anymore loss, change, but the only thing in this world that remains eternal IS change... Poor her. I hate her because of wanderer but I also don't, cause archons go thru everything we do for eons and they just take much more time to recover.
Now I truly do not blame her for seeking eternity
War isn’t about who’s right or wrong; it’s about who’s left and who’s gone…
Every single part of this truly hits me. Seeing kitsune Saiguu and Makoto .. im gonna start tearing up. This is so beautiful. Many people say Ei is overrated (in a hot way) but in my opinion people who truly know a lot about her are just different people. This just makes me relate to ei a lot, even though I’ve never have experienced loss. Her emotions all tied up relate to me. The lore needs to be spoken out about. During Ei’s story quests i started crying. I love that hoyoverse added some sort of angst lore, it’s so deep and hits me. Inspiring really inspired me myself. This truly is amazing.
*Honorable mention:* All of her friends died in battle, the one thing Ei had dedicated herself to mastering to prevent such a thing from happening.
Just imagine the overwhelming feeling of inadequacy on top of the depression of losing everyone she cared about.
She also comments that she had always cut down any threat to progress...and then the nation most associated with progress (Khanri'ah) kicks off that events that lead to the death of Makoto and Saiguu while exposing her to just how Celestia responds to progress (likely actually the abyss but without being sure, would you risk your nation and the people who depend on you?). Everything she has fought for has come to naught at the hands of a threat she knows she can't face in battle.
this had more emotion that the whole inazuma archon quest
all that sorrow, pain, and grief man... props to the AMAZING animation!!
I swear Raiden has every reasons to be corrupted & turned evil. So maybe her decision to make Raiden Shogun & transfer her soul to the sword isn't that bad afterall.
Give this man a round of applause 👏👏
I'm happy that this actually made me cry
I know hoyo shows Genshin as a lot tamer than say Honkai for example but I really do wish it had some dark elements like this animation because I really love how beautifully it tells the story from the bittersweet moment of Ei with her friends and just how horrible things were for her when the war happened.. the emotions this 3 minute animation made me feel was more powerful than the game did during Inazuma's story which just goes to show how amazingly well made it is thank you to all the talented people who put together this animation and sharing it with the world :)
I think the saddest part of her story is that she had to kill her own friends for the sake of Inazuma 😢 She probably feels the guilt with the sorrow.... 😢😢
*Spoiler*
Makoto died in Khaenri'ah. Sasayuri died n the war with Watatsumi (represented here by falling on Orabashi's maw) Saiguu died fighting the darkness and the one she actually fought was Chiyo who was corrupted after escaping the belly of an Abyss Beast (implied to be a Nue)
Zhongli had to put down Azhada who he considered his offspring/creation
She didn't kill anyone. She only cut off chiyos arm who lost her mind and attacked her.
Incredibly beautiful work, looking at her, you can feel all the bitterness of Raiden. When I watched it on the stream, there was a dissonance from the fact that after this video sad Raiden was given a treat, and she immediately came to her senses, the moment was ruined, since your original retained the atmosphere and lore of the entire video. Great work!
You can't blame her after everything she's been through.
I too would be extremely broken if that were to ever happen to me.
Temporary happiness
But eternal sadness...
Ei she'll be the most powerful archon but she'll be the most archon lonely
I wait for the moment that she becomes loved as well as the other archons❤️
I dunno why but I always come back to watch this.
as a shogun main; i will eternally memorize this short story.
and every scene worth captured as wallpaper
This is definitely my favourite part of HoyoFair

Damn the music the animation and the transition especially at 2:37 it's so well executed. It hits right in the feels when we see ei crying with the music going on and her friends being slaughtered. Truly a beautiful animation one of the best genshin fan animation in my opinion.
That hurts a lot, and that's a testament to how beautiful this work is...
the firework scene is a masterpiece
I'm not crying- you're crying
This animation perfectly incapsulates why I love Ei so much
Thank you to everyone who brought this to life 🙏
The whole team did a fantastic job! This is certainly a work I will remember for a long time. ❤
I'm depressed, seeing what happens after fireworks, just gets me to forget it . I still wish ,they will include Raiden in up coming quests and story. She deserves it. Unlike a drunkard and a guy who wants to run away from duties.
No matter how many times I watch this, I always end up crying
The final fireworks with the song tunes stopped, there is where my tears bursting out none stop...
It’s sad how many people make half baked comments about this wonderful character. Smh. Long love The Raiden Shogun. May all that think they know about her be forever determined to research before commenting. Amen.
As raiden main, I have to say that the animation was very emotional and sad.
Ei, is a very human character, who suffers, makes mistakes and loves, and yet, with a burden as great as it is to govern and protect an entire nation as they goddess, does what is possible within its limitations and its prolonged suffering. Fortunately, in the current lore she herself realised that she is not as lonely as she believed, but that there are beings who really care about her like Yae, who from what we saw is able to move heaven and earth to get her out of her own mind, and we all know that when we are bad, we ourselves can be our worst enemy.
Yae avoided that Ei, blinded by his pain, would make an even greater mistake, which would be to continue harming inazuma unconsciously without him realizing it.
Many may think differently, but to me, Raiden Ei is the best archon and one of genshin's best characters in terms of development and personality.
this animation always sends chills down my spine
Not just chills, i feel like tearing up..
2:09 and everything after was such an emotional and beautiful part 😭 especially when Ei is left alone in pain 😔
I come back to watch this every now and then. Still one of the most beautiful things I've seen. And I get watery eyes every single time.
Ei is best Archon. Same for Nahida.
Ei and Furina and Nahida are all my favorite too
Zhongli was tragic too
It's making me cry.
HOW IS THIS A FAN ANIMATION?!
IT'S SO GOOD BUT SO HEARTBREAKING AT THE SAME TIME
10/10 WOULD CRY AGAIN
The most painful thing in the world is , the time you spend with others or memories become memories.
If you noticed, Mihoyo left 2 important plot hole in Inazuma's Archon quest so that they can filled it later with a Character Story or an event. With one being Chiyo's current state, yes she did not die, she just got extremely wounded and ran into hideout which her whereabouts was unknown. The second one being the same, which is the Mouun younger sister who was gravely wounded in the battle against Ei and also went into unknown hideout
got the chills
That's why ei is my fav archon cause she has the best story
This is a perfect portrayal of the tragedy of Raiden Shogun in my opinion.
It captures exactly what must’ve gone through Raiden’s head while she was hiding in her everlasting realm of euthymia.
The joys and sorrows of reliving her past over and over again.
Sad thing is, I bet that some of the tragedies of this could’ve been prevented if some things would’ve gone differently.
The death of the tengu general for example. In hindsight, we know that the watatsumi serpent god intended on that battle being their grave, meaning that the attack on the rest of Inazuma simply was a front for an execution.
I think we can all relate to looking at a moment of happiness among friends, and wishing it could last forever
Thank you...thank you from the bottom of my heart...
this is so heartbreaking 😭
I really love Ei! somehow I feel her pain! 💔😭
and some players think that she's a bad archon! they just don't understand where she's coming from 😭😭
what an angsty beautiful video.. I always sympathy to Ei, because imagining how can she survive in eternity with all that grieving.. and she finally got a closure after we finish her story..
she's just fictional character but this video always make me cry (been the 4th time since it released)..
When you miss your friend the only thing left is eternity of sadness and regret
I like the fact that the tenguu guy and the oni girl are like sara and itto
Thank you for the hard work, you did great with the representation of Ei's backstory It really hits with the feels.. It gave me chills especially the way you made the scenes more realistic from what I've imagine of what happened to her once again thank you for this godly animation and sorrowful backstory
this was beautiful!!! it was really nice seeing Ei with her old friends.. so much feels 💜
2:37 brooo the way they animated how her friends died 😭 😭😭😭😭😭
I need to search some lore videos so this could hit me not like a truck but a mountain. Even only knowing what must be 5% it's clear this is phenomenal visual story telling.
Thank you for your art.
I started crying when the fireworks started. Raiden will always be my favorite😭❤️
Inazuma story has been nothing but a huge tragedy 😭
'Men don't cry' My @##.!
Honestly you give us everything we want to see in the game during cutscenes. This is so much more touching than how they tell the story. I'm on the verge of tears
I’m not crying, I swear…
素晴らしい作品です。涙が出ました。
i wish everyone in the genshin community could see this so they could understand what ei has really been through 😭😭😭☹️
THE FIREWORK SCENE STILL BREAKS ME NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I REWATCH
the most beautiful animation of genshin i have ever seen
This short is a beautiful animation that portrays Ei's past and its ups and downs. Happiness and depression. Thank you for this incredible work❤
Inazuma's pacing problems killed what was essentially a beautiful and tragic story. For the longest time, it felt like we as the Traveller was fighting without any real purpose against a God who was trapping her own people in her country for seemingly unclear and vague reasons.
I'm glad Mihoyo showed us what happened later on with the extra stories, trailers and cutscenes but it would have been much more powerful had we seen all this in game during the actual Archon quest.
Thank god you’re not the developer then. Cheers!
IM NOT CRYING GODDAMNIT YOU ARE.
