- Splitting wood on the end of a board can be frustrating. Just as annoying is hauling around 2 drills, and having to predrill and then put in your screw, it also takes more time. I'll show you how to drill a screw into the end of a board without predrilling and without splitting, it's easier than you think.

Also... Thank you for being quick , concise and to the point (unlike .. some of these loooong winded, self promoter, time wasters...)
Anytime. I try to be
Thank you. This trick saved my butt. Cedar fence pickets I was installing kept splitting badly when fastening them, and I had to throw away $30 worth of wood because of it. After a little research I found your video, used your trick (plus wetting the fence pickets down a little) and no more splits.
That's awesome, glad I could help! Little tips like that are the best to just keep in your pocket for later
I can imagine some apprentice inventing this method, due to their initial incompetence! Then impressing everybody with this new skill.
You are my hero man!!! you saved me sooooooo much hassle!! Thank you and God bless.

Great tip..... thanks

Wow interesting trick! I know they sometimes make screws where the head of the screw is kind of like a countersink bit (it can remove wood) but this is a whole other level
Thanks! Yup, this works awesome for any type of screw
Wow , I appreciate that

Lol you're welcome! I'm just happy to help
Last trick driving a screw in reverse it's the same as pre drill. Why when drive a screw near the edge of piece of wood splits?
Let's go back to high school and think about this: The laws of physics say that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. When drive a screw near the edge it needs space to expand. When drive a screw in reverse it removes some material and also heats the hole which becomes larger. Same as pre drilling.
I’d say cause your heating the screw up. So it goes through like butter. May want to do an experiment where you heat up the screw with a flame first
Possibly, worth a shot
What is the bit called?
Not sure I understand, there isn't a specific bit just a technique. But I was using #8 Robertson square drive deck screws in this example
