    Wow Jon once again just brilliant! This is really how you teach a game. Often players says when they sit down to a new game "That's enough of the rules, let's play around and see how it goes", and that's kind of what you do. Fun! I've watched a couple of other 'how to play' dwellings of everydale videos but stop midway through, scratching my head because I get confused as the host of the video draws way too much attention to themselves by injecting personality and flavor into the instruction; which can be entertaining but can also be very distracting as I'm trying to tuck all these rules in my head and get a sense of whether or not this is a game for me. Anyway, thank you so much for doing what you do !

    I must say I'm always a sucker for an epic fantasy type of setting in a game. In addition I also enjoy it when worker placement games actually give you different types of workers with unique abilities, makes it feel like you're running an actual faction where different members have different specialties. Speaking of specialties, asymmetry is something I always find a nice touch in games and wish more of them would do. It gives players more to think about in how to maximize their abilities while minimizing their opponent's advantages.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 5 lety

      I agree about being a sucker for this type of game with asymmetries and unique abilities. Honestly I quite enjoyed playing this too, I just generally try to keep my opinion out of the actual video since this was sponsored content :)

  • @JonGetsGames
    @JonGetsGames  Před 3 lety +9

    ATTENTION: There has been a rule change between this prototype and the final version of the game. Each dwelling now lets a player score up to 3 cards of any elemental type once the game is over. This means if you have 1 dwelling and 4 cards then you'll only score 3 of those cards.

    good video, yeah had my first ghosts run yesterday and i am pretty sure i got the rules right... but the way the game ended was a little weird / unexpected
    like i didn't use any magic cards at all, i think i really only revealed one realm and got an adventure card, just seemed a little weird that you can play it completely through but barely use any of the mechanics in the game
    i did lose though but only by 15 points against the ghost, my run through was just a bit of a sprint between us to smash out the dwellings and the game was over pretty quickly

      Sofoklis Kapriniotis what are ur specific reasons not to back If I may ask ?

    • @TylerDeLisle
      @TylerDeLisle Před 5 lety +5

      The game may not be for you, but I'm not sure where your negativity is coming from. The mini's are honestly the least interesting, and least impactful part of the game. Many have played it and loved it, just like the designer's previous game, Energy Empire.
      For me, this game has everything I love in it. An interesting take on Worker Placement where engine building is built into their roles and the tableau you develop. Competition for score tracks, potential to interact on locations. Having to plan ahead to reach locations. Acquiring resources on the map, hand management. To me it feels like this game has it all.

    • @S.Kapriniotis
      @S.Kapriniotis Před 5 lety +6

      Exactly, this game has it all. A little of everything, nothing to actually make me want to play it.
      Imho it tries too much to be everything and fails in almost every aspect. It has generic workers, and asymmetric powers, it has Dragons, because, well, it is Dragons, even for the rat people. It has gimmicky meeples that stay on top of the workers, it has gametrayz for very few items per player, it has a spell board, now where have I seen that before? and the list goes on.
      I am sure it will do great in the campaign, it is beautiful and the designer is obviously well liked from what I understand. And this is probably why my comments seem like an attack to a wonderful game, but honestly it's just me.

    • @TylerDeLisle
      @TylerDeLisle Před 5 lety

      @@S.Kapriniotis Fair enough, I get some of your points. Personally I love and appreciate Game Trayz, even if they're not as necessary. There's a fair amount of setup here, The trays will help with that. The roofs on top of meeples do seem a bit silly looking, but I can see why they chose to do it, it takes up a worker so I'm sure it was a functional choice. Not sure what the issue with the spell board is, moving up tracks is in many games.
      For me, none of those things are what sold the game for me, in some cases they're a bit of icing on a cake. I do admit it seems overproduced. I would have been fine with meeple monsters, and less stuff in a smaller box for less money. To me, the game looks absolutely fun. It's a lot of Euro elements but framed around a more Dudes on a Map style area control mechanic where you're battling to attain locations. I think it's a really clever blend. I like that you can specialize in different strategies for both points and just dominating the board. Didn't see it quite as much in this video series, but in the Man vs Meeple one off, and from what I could watch of the Dice Tower, some people make use of their asymmetric workers, some find fun combos with cards allowing them to manipulate monsters to dominate the board, some use their faction abilities more to find ways to churn points.
      There's lots of point combos to be found, varied board setups, 16 unique races to play as, you really have to consider the other players with every action you take, I dig all of that. I'm pretty sure the game will be a hit for me. It is lighter than I first thought, and there's dice rolling combat, so I can see why it would turn off a lot of people. I'm excited though.

    @33:15 why would the player put the treasure tile on the recall spot instead of just discarding it to get the 2 tools and then activating the recall spot to also get a gem? This only seems useful if the player currently has too many treasure tiles and too many tools and cannot discard it for the resources immediately.

    • @JeremyBerven

    • @TylerDeLisle
      @TylerDeLisle Před 5 lety +1

      It does seem lighter than I first thought. More fine for me as I prefer medium weight Euros. The player interaction is what really sells it for me and makes it special. Competition for spaces for abilities, combat to get up the war track, race to get up the magic tracks, even competition in how spell cards are discarded. It seems like fun to me, but yeah, not for everyone.

      My gaming group felt the same way about "Rise of Tribes", one of Breaking Games previous releases. The ideas are solid, but we all wanted it to be more where it wasn't and less where it was (if that makes any sense lol). Developers are crucial now. You need someone who says, "This isn't good enough, try again," over and over.

      I think It’s great for me-The only thing that’s a bit unnecessary is the sound effect thingies.
      I dislike games that are too “streamlined”-excessive bloat to me means additional content, often stretch goals, that add lots of miniatures and such that ultimately don’t add much to gameplay. This to me looks like a game that has all the expansions built right in. Instead of starting with a more basic worker placement and coming out with endless expansions to fix the original design.
      I respect your opinion and I’m totally glad their is a diversity of tastes out there, but sometimes “Tighter” games end up having the same openings or, especially in coops, feel more like a puzzle than a game.
      I’m not saying I dislike some streamlined games, I own plenty, but I can totally see how the marketing of this game made it seem more streamlined by saying a player has ‘only 2 choices: put out a worker or pull them all back’. well, there’s a lot more ‘unofficial turn actions’.
      Out of curiosity, if you were in the mood for a worker placement of this nature (not necessarily the same theme), what would you suggest our hypothetical group play instead? There’s no wrong answers, just preferences.
      Also great job explaining the game-I like your cadence and calm delivery as you explain this rather detail game thoroughly. Although I know everyone wants a faster video, I appreciate you didn’t skip much, but instead offered watchers timestamped buttons to skip ahead to the relevant part of the game they may be trying to get more detail on.
      Cheers to all!
