      Didn't Ned have a friend on the writing staff at SNL? Wonder if that's where this bit of propaganda came from. I love how the "news anchor" is like he just had a side piece and you fired him. Uh, it's a bit more than that, genius, when both his wife and his side piece are both his employees. Shame on you, SNL.
      Speaking of people whose business is negatively affected. Poor Ariel with that cookbook she and Ned put out together. Who's gonna buy that now? So her and the kids lose the income of Ned's job and their book on top of everything else. Was just thinking of that when Markie mentioned how food babies would be affected. So much drama. And so much carelessness on the part of Alex and Ned.

    Ned's side was taken by SNL for two reasons the main one being that ned has friends in SNL he's talked about it a couple different times and I think even name drops in their try guys book I watched Alizee talk about their book the second reason is because SNL has a huge and extremely long history of being complete shit bags to their women coworkers and so if they didn't take Ned's side they'd have to also take accountability for the nasty shit they do to women instead of sweeping it under the rug like they usually do

      Bingo, O and apparently Alex is friends with someone that works at SNL also. My question is, I get that the writers are biased (obviously) but do the comedians not research what their skits are about? Like do they realize what a shit take the skit was or do they just not care?

      @ayannahf0702 Před rokem +5

      @@Just_Reading_Comments Oh that definitely plays into it because if they took the rest of the guys side then they'd have to acknowledge every sexual misconduct they have done which they're not ready for or want to. several years ago I worked for a short time for a publisher who specialized in taking business people like realtors, or self help gurus, and would create books that said nothing but got their name out. the business model was seriously making a book that becomes your business card. Not joking.... You pay to get a book entry on a promotions circuit and you get the book on billboards on times square etc so it looks like it's doing great. One of the things you get when you pay for this is on the NYTimes best selling list. the bestselling list is NOT a list of good books. Its a list of books that are getting the most media and therefore sales. Not a single book that company put out was worthy of the perception people have of bestseller lists. choose books from critics, not best seller lists. many of them are just a sham.

    • @kiraeckard7625
      @kiraeckard7625 Před rokem +8

      Exactlyyy, the NY Times best sellers list only requires you to have 5K + sells in one week(the only nuance is that you have to sell on a couple different platforms. You can't get the best seller list selling on only amazon). Any person with a following like Ned's could hit that EASY. Plus getting advertising, like you mentioned, across a few different platforms and maybe a good deal on the book when its new is all you need. Basically anyone with the money for advertising can get on the NY Times Best Sellers list. All it tells me is you have money and/or a social media following-not that the book is good.

    • @SplatterInker
      @SplatterInker Před rokem +10

      Agree. Ultimately Alex's role in this is not something we have the deets on, nor should we. Whether she's repentant or not it's between people we don't actually know, and it's their business. It's not our job to go around excoriating her. Nor, really, is it our job to punish Ned for the cheating part of what's happened here. Or to advise those affected as to how they should behave or feel about it.
      It *is*, however, our job to condemn those who - like Ned - think that sleeping with a junior employee is ok, and think they can get away with promoting themselves as "the wife guy" whilst literally cheating on said wife. Those two things are legit things the public have every right to get loud and angry about. Can you have opinions about Alex and Ned? Sure. But the reason there's so much emphasis on not raking Alex across the coals is the fact that women usually get way more of that than men when a cheating situation occurs, whether they regretted it or not. So people are cutting her more slack in public because we just don't know whether she's at all sorry or not, and at the end of the day the figure who has betrayed us, the public, is Ned - not her.

      @SplatterInker Před rokem +3

      I'm really sorry, this wasn't supposed to come out as an essay... feel free to ignore the below, or just leave a poop emoji if you disagree. I don't really want to start anything, I just find this topic really interesting and morally complex. I don't want you to feel attacked, but now I've written my argument for my position on the issue, I'm gonna post it.
      Why is the fact they both cheated the main issue *to you* though? These aren't your friends, you don't have to work with them, you aren't acquainted. Morally speaking you are 100% right that the principal problem is they both willingly cheated. (If I was a colleague of Alex's and did know them, trust me, she'd be getting no slack and much frostiness from me too,) but who are you to be the moral arbiter of them?
      The only instance in which your (or my) moral opinions matter here is that - as I pointed out - Ned sold himself on the internet (and made money from) presenting himself to us as the "wife guy". And as a boss of a company should be held accountable as any other boss should be, to unacceptable workplace behaviour.
      The fact that hundreds of people hook up with their bosses is kind of beside the point. I'm sorry, but they should be being punished for starting inappropriate relationships with junior colleagues directly under their management. And how many of those relationships end well? Particularly for the "other woman" who's a direct junior employee to the man? How many of those women will likely loose their job (directly or indirectly) when it goes wrong, while the man continues to be employed? Or *is* sacked, but easily finds work elsewhere because they're already more senior (perhaps not the case here with Ned, but it could have been, if the TryGuys had tried to sweep it under the rug, or if sympathy had lain with him publicly). It's not really on the junior partner to just know better - it's on the person (male or female) who's in a position of seniority to be ethical and NOT go ahead with the relationship - or wait until they are no longer their direct boss.
      Of course that doesn't always happen in practice, but I'm intrigued that you seem to deny that the junior partner in that scenario has lost some part of their agency in that situation, by virtue of being less powerful. Just because the senior partner doesn't hold it over their head, doesn't mean they couldn't. That's literally why we had rape-within-marriage criminalised. Because before it was criminalised a husband could rape their wives legally - just because many of them didn't, didn't mean every single husband could rape his wife. Do you see what I'm saying here? Just because both parties consent to a relationship does not automatically mean they are equal partners.
      You'd be scandalised, I'm sure, if this was a teacher or lecturer with their student. And in a university setting, they'd both be adults. That's not the point. The point is it's unethical to conduct a relationship with a power imbalance like that in a workplace environment.
      To return to the moral question: Has Ariel (or Jonathan) told us to go hound Alex and Ned online? No. Have any of the people who actually know them told us to go enact moral justice here? No - in fact, the opposite. They've asked fans to back off and let the injured parties deal with this in they way they want to. If nothing else we should respect their wishes, and focus on the parts which do directly affect us. The bits where we have a legitimate public interest.
      Given how awful it can be to receive the ire of the internet (and let's be real here, Alex and Ned have both recieved the ire of the internet, whether people should be going after them or not, whether it's "equal" or not), I'm happy to back off and not contribute to the dog pile where the public interest is not affected. It's just not necessary, and might do more harm than you ever realise. After all, how the hell would I know what Alex or Ned think or feel about this right now? Let alone the people they hurt.

    For anyone curious, I looked it up and it seems your book can be a new York best seller if it sells at least 5,000 to 10,000 copies in a week? So, if u have a big social media following and advertise enough, it could be pretty easy.
    On top of that, the title bestseller will stay with that book forever, so yeah, not the most amazing award or whatever

    As an author of 12 published books, I just wanted to let you know… being a NY times best seller is an extremely hard achievement to get…. Most who get that title, are generally celebs with HUGE followings releasing 1 books and instantly making the list because they already have a fan base. Us indie authors, who do make the list, it’s pure hard work, dedication, a shit tonne of money spent on ads and a lot of timing promoting your own work.
    I’ve never made the list but I also don’t have a huge following, nor do I have the cash to create ads etc. but I am an Amazon best seller. I’ll take that lol.

It’s been over a year and I’m still angry about it. To do that to his friends, wife, and children! 😡 yes there was a power dynamic with Alex, but she still knew he was married, and in a relationship herself. did anyone from 2nd Try, LLC ever confirm that Alex was a willing participant? or rather that she wasn't forced or pressured or coerced? or a victim of the power dynamics?
    i noticed people kept mentioning that the issue was the power dynamic, Ned violating// using his power inappropriately, + the fact that there is no consent in situations when power dynamics are what they were.
    but then...those same folks having no issue throwing Alex in front of a bus moving at full speed or making it clear they believe Alex is just as guilty or equally at fault as Ned.
    so which is it?
    both cannot be true.
    what did i miss?
    [in fact, Markie + The Hollywood Lawyer are the only ones who have properly acknowledged the power dynamic w|o contradicting themselves later via their treatment of Alex.]

      @Just_Reading_Comments Před rokem +17

      @hellaSwankky in my opinion, yes both things can be true. Legality doesn’t always go hand in hand with morality, reality, or common sense. Legally because of the power dynamic an employee can’t consent but with the information available we can deduce that Alex was a consenting participant in the affair for well over a year. Her fiancée of almost 10 years caught them back in December 2021. He confronted Alex and Ned, who both admitted to the affair. Why wouldn’t issues of coercion, force or pressure have come up then? There is also Alex’s admittance of pressuring others when it comes to things like drinking and even going after other men in relationships. There’s also my personal opinion that, while technically Ned was head of HR, there were other “bosses” she could have spoken to about any issues. Finally there’s her silence on the situation. She’s never refuted Ned’s statement of it being a “consensual relationship”. She never made any statement and considering the negative public opinion and possible effects on future employment it doesn’t make sense to not “clear her name” if that was the case.
