OU hasn’t played Mississippi State or SCar ever so you can’t say against the SEC if you haven’t played everyone. OU is about to walk into the lion’s den. A&M and Missouri have not won the SEC since they’ve joined. OU is 19-12 vs. A&M and while that’s a winning record, it’s far from dominate. I posted this as a response to another comment but after typing it, I felt like it deserved its own thread. So please, let me know your thoughts!
    Many have overhyped the SEC as the greatest conference for a while now, when in reality, teams like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU have made the SEC way too top heavy. People keep saying the SEC is the best conference, when in reality it is just because of 3 schools that they get so much credit. As a Sooner fan I do now embrace the SEC as our conference but for many years, just like Texas is overhyped and given the benefit of the doubt, so too has the SEC been given the benefit of the doubt numerous times. There were many years of the 4-team playoff in which there was justifiable means of swapping out one of the SEC teams (since there always seemed to be 2) for another conference leader. But to make the SEC look better, they just had to put 2 teams in an already limited seated playoff. It's good that this will no longer be the issue but sucks that we had to wait this long through the growing pains of a playoff model before we landed on a more realistic number of spots. There were probably 2 seasons that the SEC clearly had the 2 best teams (or at the very least 2 out of the 4 best teams).
    Do I think OU is going to go in this year and dominate the schedule? Probably not, it is possible, but probably not. But I do think the combination of SEC being overhyped, and OU being undervalued has skewed people's opinions on whether or not OU is "SEC ready." For now, we only have 2 seasons of data to really go off of and in those 2 seasons, we saw drastic improvement (within the Big 12 schedule mind you). But if this team improves even just a little bit from last year, this team will do just fine this year.
    Teams like Auburn and Missouri I would argue, are the equivalent of K-State and Oklahoma State. Teams that are good, and will disrupt undefeated seasons, but never truly amount to anything. I see Auburn as a possible K-State and Missouri as OSU in that Auburn will be the team that will disrupt an undefeated season for us later down the road, more times than we care to admit. Oklahoma will most likely dominate Missouri in majority of their matchups but every once in a while, Missouri will end a losing streak. Ole Miss is probably the team to beat on OU's schedule. If they improve from their last season, then they will truly be a difficult matchup. Alabama and LSU are both huge question marks. LSU wasn't as good as what people were thinking they were going to be last year. I do hear it is a difficult stadium to play in; however, they might still be in a rebuilding year. We shall see. Alabama, the obvious question mark comes from the question of "Will the new head coach pick up where Saban left off?" If he can just take the reins seamlessly, then they will in fact be a difficult team. If the coach change, drastically altered the culture, it may impact their performance greatly. This late in the season, they might could find their rhythm.
    I think at the end of the day, Oklahoma does control their own destiny this year. As long as everyone can remain healthy and eligible, I think the sky is the limit with this Sooner program. BV has done an excellent job in the recruitment battle. The defense last year showed signs of elite D. Now if it can all come together, this will be a completely different Sooner team than what people are used to seeing. Sure, the O-line is new, but coach B has proven that he is one of the best O-line coaches in all of college football. I do not worry too much. Perhaps a rocky start. But I think by the time Sooners reach their first Test, coach B will have them straightened out. As far as Jackson Arnold. I don't think the Arizona game is an accurate representation of what to expect from him. A bowl game that many of the main players opt out of means you aren't playing with your true set of guys that you do well with. Him having time to build trust with his receivers and other teammates will be crucial to his success. Here is to a new chapter in college football, with the new realignments. Here is to the new traditions and memories that will be made going forward. Move over Alabama, your reign is just about over! Boomer!

      @MidnightWolfSDJ Před 13 hodinami

      @@joeyoungmighty It could change this year sure. But you cannot deny the fact that after the top 2-3 SEC teams, that there is a significant drop in talent in the rest of the SEC from year to year. Usually you have 1-2 undefeated-1 loss teams, then you might see like one 2 loss team. Then the rest have 4+ losses a season. Not all of SEC is elite every single season. Just a couple.

    I give Oklahoma and Texas alot of respect. Doesn't mean I have to roll out the red carpet as they enter the arena that is SEC football. That would be unworthy of what it means to be an SEC fan. We didn't roll it out for Arkansas and South Carolina, nor for Texas A&M and Missouri. So why the heck should they get special treatment? The SEC has been doing just fine without em. Just remember that each time the SEC introduced new programs to this great conference. The top program has made sure who's on top. And Alabama is that program. Laugh all yall want, and act like Bama won't do no damage in 2024. They still have one of the best rosters in the nation, and just hired a coach who has won more games will less talent on a roster. Those two combinations don't mix like water and oil. Those mix like fire and gasoline. It becomes explosive! Don't be surprised if Alabama does what it has done before. Win the conference and win the natty in a season where 2 new teams start their competition in the SEC. And not saying Texas and OU won't be competitive either. I think Texas will be who Bama plays in Atlanta on Dec 7th. Give em a good ol spanking in Atlanta. Oklahoma will be up there as well. If Texas loses more than 2 games, I'll be surprised. If Oklahoma loses more than 4, I'll be surprised. It is a different SEC moving forward, and a stronger SEC. But we don't have to respect anyone who enters this arena! Butt whippings are the norm.

      @@christophermorales1509 Thanks for the reply! And thanks for understanding that I'm speaking from an Alabama/long time SEC fan perspective. You mention the Oklahoma game out in Norman, right before Bama's annual game against Ah-bern, and new season finale game w/the Byou Bengal Tigers from Red Stick Loseranna. Imo isn't a year end type rivalry game imo. I believe Missouri or Arkansas should have gotten Oklahoma for the season finale. Or could have swapped out Oklahoma with Arkansas. And have the battle of the golden boot as their season finale. With Oklahoma playing Missouri in their finale. That makes more sense (IMHO! Let's get that cleared out right now. Only my opinion). Anyway, I apologize for the digression. So back to my point. I remember the last time Alabama went to Norman. It was on Sept 7th, 2002, against the #2 Sooners, who barley got out of that game with a win. Alabama had the lead late, but quarterback Tyler Watts dropped back to do what a quarterback is supposed to do, but instead lost the ball and let Oklahoma steal all the momentum from Alabama, took the air outta the game plan for Alabama and they beat the Crimson Tide 37 - 27, in the second game of the '02 season. Lost to the #1 Sooners in 2003 by the score of 20-13, while playing in a Bryant Denny Stadium that only held around 80,000 - 85,000 seats. OU's toughest games both in 2002. Alabama was horrible back in the early 2000's. Talk about a coaching carousel! Alabama went from Gene Stallings retiring after the 1996 season, to hiring Mike Dubose. Who won an SEC title and lost an Orange Bowl BCS game against Tom Brady and the Michigan Wolverines by a hooked extra point. Then Bama hired coach Franchione from TCU, then when Fran went to Texas A&M, Bama went after Washington State head coach Mike Price. Who actually was a hot name coach at the time. But some folks can't handle having that much fame and deep pockets. So Mike Price ended up spending money on an escort named Ginger, and alot of high dollar seafood or something like that. All on the University of Alabama debit card lol. Anyway, in comes Mike Shula, son of Miami Dolphins great Don Shula. Mike who was quarterback at Alabama in the early to mid 1980's. Basically was hired to keep the program from completely falling apart. And he done just that. Mike Shula, a head football coach, still won 10 games in 2005, beat Mike Leach's Texas Tech Red Reed uh's in the Cotton Bowl. But all was stripped from Bama, at least on paper due to textbook violations. (THANK GOODNESS That no program will ever have that all troublesome NCAA investigation issue ever again!) So to end this long ass reply. I will admit that spot Bama @ Oklahoma on November 23, 2024 (which is 3 days after my 46th birthday) is going to be Alabama's toughest game for 2024. Yep, tougher than Georgia, the 4th gm for Bama. Tougher than @Wisconsin, vs Missouri, @LSU, @Tennessee, and vs AhBern. That Oklahoma game imo, culd be a loss for the Tide. Thank the football deities fer the new 12 team format lol. Again, sorry such a long reply. But I love talking about college football, and adding my bit of oddball humor to the mix. It's all about being a fan and having that competitive spirit, with a side of great respect for programs like Texas and Oklahoma, who have a pedigree and history just as rich as the rest of the blue bloods around the country. I believe Oklahoma during the Bud Wilkinson era, they won what 50+ straight games? You remember who ended that? I think it was Bear Bryant When he was coaching Kentucky to it's only SEC football championship lol. See, those little connections are so cool and unique. You gotta admit that it's cool when it works out like that 😁. #BoomerSooner #RollTide #WelcomeToTheSECSooners

    Don’t look past Oklahoma!
    I surprised that Paul Finebaum hardly knew anything about OU on his visit for being such a renowned media spokesperson. It showed too. The recency bias for Texas is just that, history shows that they will have a good season or two every decade but OU is a sleeping giant and not the little brother moving in. It should be Oklahoma-Texas and not Texas-Oklahoma as most SEC pundits are call it.
    Here are some stats for that most of us OU fans know but wished that these SEC homers knew too.
    OU has the second most national championships in the country outside of Yale and Princeton just right behind Alabama that has 18 or (13 unanimous).
    Oklahoma has seven recognized Associated Press championships. OU has 15 titles that are recognized by the NCAA:
    Those wins came in 2000, 1986, 1985, 1980, 1978, 1975, 1974, 1973, 1967, 1957, 1956, 1955, 1953, 1950 and 1949.
    OU only claims AP national titles as they are unanimous unlike many other schools.
    Just think, Michigan only has 3, but all of the sudden within the last couple of years, now they claim 12 for example. Ohio State now claims 8, Notre Dame claims 11, USC claims 9. We ae getting passed up and we actually have more. This helps for prestige and recruiting but for some reason the old heads at OU will not fall in ine like everyone else and claim
    what they actually have. I don't get it.
    OU also has the most conference championships of any team.
    OU is tied for most Heisman winners (7) with Ohio State and USC.
    OU is the only school with four 100-win coaches, owns a college football record 47-game win streak during the 1950s, and since 1945 leads the sport with 606 wins and a .762 win percentage.
    OU has the most all-time draft picks of the teams that are now in the SEC in 417. Alabama has 411.
    Lastly, OU are amongst the top in having the most undefeated seasons in all of college football.
    Joining the SEC may be tough but it is opening a flood gate to recruits that they would have missed out on since they were not in the SEC. OU is a top 2-3 Blue Blood program. Imagine the 5 star recruits that OU will get now that they are in the SEC.
    I think that OU is getting exactly what they wished for in terms of money, prestige, recruiting, and a shot to win it all.
    Like I said, it may not be immediate but it will come sooner than later.

      The fact that we don’t claim our national championships the same way everyone else does really irritates me! I’d prefer it if everyone else claimed them the way we do (the honest way). But if they’re not going to then we should claim all 17 of ours!!

    You want respect in the SEC? Earn it in the SEC. Play an SEC schedule and win consistently year after year after year. It's that simple.

    • @MidnightWolfSDJ
      @MidnightWolfSDJ Před 3 dny +1

      Meaning only like 3 teams get any respect right now? Alabama, Georgia, LSU. SEC is way too top heavy. People keep saying the SEC is the best conference, when in reality it is just because of 3 schools that they get so much credit. As a Sooner fan I do now embrace the SEC as our conference but for many years, just like Texas is overhyped and given the benefit of the doubt, so too has the SEC been given the benefit of the doubt. There were many years of the 4 team playoff in which there was justifiable means of swapping out one of the SEC teams (since there always seemed to be 2) for another conference leader. But to make the SEC look better, they just had to put 2 teams in an already limited seated playoff. Its good that this will no longer be the issue but sucks that we had to wait this long through the growing pains of a playoff model before we landed on a more realistic number of spots.
Boomer!

      @@jeffbradley883 How many natties has Auburn won in total though? Also you can't just look at a team at their best. You also have to look at a team at their worst. How many SEC Championship trophies have they won? How many Heismans have they produced? Im not saying Auburn is a terrible team. I just equate them to another good team that hasn't amounted to much that being K-State. Both teams who almost always find themselves in the mid-tier teams of their respective conferences. Other than one bad year under Brent Venables and maybe 1-2 bad years under Bob Stoops, OU has dominated their Big 12 Schedule. If anything, OU is a more consistent team than Auburn. I'm not saying Auburn won't beat OU. And guess what, it could easily happen this year. But I think once OU gets settled into the SEC, either this year or the years that follow, I think we will start to see a lopsided win-loss record between these 2 teams. I am by no means an expert. I also don't follow Auburn football much if at all, but I do know that the last 15-20 years of the SEC has been dominated by either, Alabama, Georgia, or LSU. Auburn has had a few outlier years during this period sure, and you guys get all the praise for those accomplishments. But you have to at least acknowledge where I am coming from in my comparison between Auburn and K-State or even OSU.
