How do you fix this issue if the truck is stuck in reverse when the cable slips off how do you get it back on?

This video came in clutch. Mine popped off at a Walmart parking lot in Missouri around 11pm and I’m from Texas with no one to call and no mobile shops around. Found this video reconnected it with a certified mechanics zip tie and was back on the road in minutes 🙏🏼

Thanks so much for this video! I had the exact same problem happen in my 2011 Chevy Express 1500 van, linkage setup exactly the same and the pin holding them together melted right through. Looked like it was disintegrated with battery acid, had a powdery white look to it. My shifter went loose and I was stuck in reverse until I found this and was able to get it parked properly. Thanks again. 👍👍

Thank you , was locked in park with a 10,000 gvw trailer hitched to it. stressing on how to seperate them .After watching your video ,Took a second look and sure enough. Wired it back on .I was ready to call a tow truck.
This exact situation happened today. Luckily, the cable came off the transmission. I popped it back on and secured it with wire ties.
This literally happened to me last night. Thought my transmission failed. Called a tow truck then watched this video. Was able to fix myself thanks to you. Probably saved at least a few hundred dollars. Thanks! Another interesting indicator, after it happened I shut off my car then tried to restart but since the linkage popped off while it was in drive it wouldn’t start.
Just happened to me today. But I have great local mechanics who came and got it in gear then took it to the shop. No towing fees! I love those guys.

The loose steering cable is exactly I have...
2004 Blazer with no prior warning...shifter goes all the way through the entire gear shifting range without changing transmission.

Thank you so much, mine popped out as I was at the car wash, got in a parking spot watched this video , put the emergency brake on, got underneath, pushed the lever up into park and pushed the shifter back on, took a few seconds thank you SO MUCH

I'm having this problem with my Honda Element and based on what I saw here, its time to replace a broken cable.
I have a similar issue, but only between neutral and drive and overdrive, reverse holdss in place and park, wound it be the same issue?
This happened to me today, on the road; I was stuck in Drive. The good news is, the shift cable end had popped off the pin on the transmission actuating lever, and I was able to pop it back on. Of course I didn't know to look there until I watched your video, which was very helpful. I can't help adding, I secured the cable end with two chained cable ties, a better bodge IMO than "mechanic's wire". I also greased the pin; it was quite rusty.
Great video. That's the problem with cars these days. So many critical parts like shifter linkage ends made out of plastic. Also Chevs leaking oil, but that's for another day

I was at the gas station and all the sudden this happens. At first I got extremely worried. But after watching this video, I feel much better! I was able to find exactly what you said, and it a jam, I was able to set it back on manually (Parking brake and truck turned off of course)

Why not just replace the plastic bushing on the end of the cable, that you can buy from doorman. The rest of the cable wasn't broken.

I like what you are talking about here because it is my need. However, your camera angles prevent me from seeing what you are doing most of the time during this video and I am stranded along the roadside trying to get up and running again. Hopefully there is just enough information to get me off the side of the road.
Thank you for this vid. I had a noob kid work with his dad on changing the front bumper on a 2013 car of mine, but the car was in P where I left it for them to work it. It turns out that the shifter was stuck in P. When the kid noticed that the shift was stuck in P, he forced the button on the shifter, pressing it as much as possible, and somehow breaking or detaching the cable from the transmission. As a result, the gears would not shift at all and the shifter was stuck in P.
Feel more capable everytime I watch this video saved me at the store popped it back on and got home safe

I bought the cable, but I think it might be too short.
I'm able to attach it the shifter on the transmission, but the end that attaches to the upper cable doesn't protrude enough.
Also, I broke the retaining clip at the end

So if you lay under the truck head at cab feet at Tailgate and u grab the automatic shifter when you pull it all the way forward tell it stops is that park or is it L1

Im having same issue on my 2012 silverado where the center piece that clicks onto transmission is broke. Do I have to replace whole cable or can I just get a plastic piece to click it back on
same issue I'm looking for the bushings and locking pin as we speak
I’m in the same spot. 2009 Silverado. Cable is good but the plastic bushing that snaps on to the shifter is worn out.

Transmission cable uses fuse too? Well I never heard that one before, though my car doesn't go back on Reverse but it works good going forward someone told me maybe the transmission cable, any ideas?

Ford mustang just had a trans rebuild everything clicks in to place except when I go from drive to reverse its a little off. I can feel it but it will pass the R a bit then I have to pull it down to make sure its clicked in . This only happens when I do from drive to reverse not park to reverse or any of the others what could it Be ? Is it the shifter ? Please answer if possible thanks :)

My problem is similar to this with the shifter not doing anything shifting downward through the gears but when in a gear such as drive I can shift to neutral reverse and park.

I need help with my manual/stick shift but something is cracked discovered after a company "repaired" something and now it won't go in gear when I turn it on. I have pics. Someone told me someone had to drop something heavy on it for it to crack like that😢

What about hard shifting from drive to park
So I have discovered the problem with my 98 Sierra is not the cable, but broken metal where the shift lever connects to the steering column. Can these parts be replaced ?
Can you do a video on a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 hemi 2 wheel drive or something in the same generation on why when you go in reverse then go to drive mode and the engine rpms shut up.

So what's wrong when you replace the cable and the gear shifter randomly goes up and down when trying to shift from park and takes several tries before it grabs and will go into gear needed?

mine did that.....called AAA and it took them an hour to show up and while i was waiting i kept trying and trying but to no avail so i watched a few videos......AAA shows up and i said i think it fell off the linkage arm and he went under the vehicle and said it was connected just fine .....i said then why is the shift lever flopping and he said try it.......i started the truck shifted it and everything worked.....he said he didnt do anything......i said thanks and sorry i made you come out on a rainy sunday and it really didnt work for like the whole hour and trying it like 20 times, he smiled, he is also my neighbor
My gear shift will move like is working r but I backed in my driveway and then I went to go leave and it want go in to drive it asks like it is in a in bind but it will go in reverse and it will go innuteral ?

I have a Honda manual trans. At high rpm (4k and +), when I try to go to fifth gear, the gear doesn't engage, the shifter becomes loose and the car goes in neutral. The fifth gear works perfectly fine under 4k rpm. I am lost I don't understand what's the problem.
