Dark Age is a 784 page space epic by Pierce Brown. It is the second book in its trilogy and the fifth in the Red Rising saga.

Jessica Laflamme it’s most definitely spitworthy
Pierce cursed us all when he brought that phrase into existence
It is the fact that 'weaved' proceeds it which is particularly... um... oddly horrific
And then following up with a delicately put: “meat salad” 😭 😂
Not a pleasant read. Now when I’m patting out burgers I’m thinking of that phrase.
Also Pierce Brown seemed to *LOVE* using the word ’bedlam’ in this book.
So much so that even a chapter was named bedlam 😅
It’s a hat tip to Cormac McCarthy and Blood Meridian!

The worst scene in this whole audiobook to sit through is the baby nailed to the tree
Team Rocket yeah I deliberately omitted that part from here haha
i had no trouble with the gore, it kind of makes it seem more realistic and brutal, but the baby nailed to a tree was a little too much for me
that scene was brutal but necessary i think. Such hatred from been seen as nothing but bugs and ants by the gold for so long resulted in this action. The lack of humanity is what the gold showed the reds for millennia. this scene showed that it isn't the colour which makes the person but the power they hold and what they do with that power i think. Harmony was rotten to the core, she would have been hailed if she were gold just like the fear knight is for similar crimes. But yeah...this was a tough part of the book for sure, certainly hits very hard.
No kidding. That was horrific to read.

Same. I was relieved to get to the end. 😅 I see the book now, laying over on my table ominously. I think it just grew a couple more chapters describing Reds being thrown into wood chippers while sitting there.
You missed the part where Lysander saw the soldiers' skin and flesh getting stripped off the bone like a decomposition timelapse by the mercurian sandstorm.
That one was pretty gruesome aswell lol
So, how much of the shows funding is going towards the gore budget? I mean, gory hell. This would have to be the single bloodiest series ever aired. Saving Private Ryan seems positively PG when put against the phrase "meat carpet".
I was thinking the same thing, it's unfathomable how much it would take to accurately represent the books.
I think Brown wrote this simply to keep the special effects guys from
GOT employed.

@@VinyZikss Even then the first one was very explicit on the violence. The only thing imo that might have made it YA is the characters were "Young Adults" but the goal of the institute was to age them 40 years in 10 months. It was very brutal as a school. Of course this had nothing on later novels but it was still dark.
Okay, I think I've changed my mind about listening to the audiobook. I don't feel sick when I'm reading the words, but listening to it just does something, and it's not good.
Must admit that's a lot of different ways to say gore
